Bears sign punter Adam Podlesh, formerly from Jacksonville, to a 5 year deal.

Perfect. Off season a success.

The pieces are in place, to steal an old Wanny phrase.

@skjensen: S Danieal Manning, apparently not a priority for #Bears, is drawing interest from teams, including #Texans & #Saints

Seems like lots of Bears end up with those two teams.

@skjensen: I'm told P Adam Podlesh agreed to a five-year deal worth over $10 million...

No way.

See my earlier post. That exchange seems plausible based on giving 10 mill to a punter.

#Bears traded 37th overall pick in 2007 to #Chargers who drafted Eric Weddle. Bears got back 2nd, 2 3rds and a 5th rd pick from SD.

#Bears turned those picks into Dan Bazuin, Garrett Wolfe, Kevin Payne, Marcus Harrison. Weddle just agreed to richest safety contract in NFL

Biggs gets really hung up on stupid crap like this. He spent like three weeks last year lamenting the James Starks draft day thing.

Yeah... That's a great package for the 37th pick. I would've done it as well. It just happened to be where none of the picks for the Bears made an impact really so it looks bad NOW 4 years later...

It certainly didn't take anywhere near 4 years for that to look bad. It was essentially a bust within the first season. The point us not that it was a bad trade, but bad drafting. Angelo's quantity over quality mindset screwed the bears then, and it might bite them again this offseason.

This is such a failass franchise it's beyond belief. The Chicago Bears are in the same league as the Cubs.

Nearly every player the Bears were looking at, have been picked up by a different team and NOW they're shopping their best down field threat?

Olsen is not a downfield threat. Hasn't averaged 11 ypc yet in a season. But yeah, this seems like a dumbass idea.

He sure looked like one in the Seattle game.

@skjensen: WR Rashied Davis, who had a couple options, has agreed to terms with the Detroit #Lions #Bears

At least we don't have to watch him drop passes anymore. I realize he was a good ST player, but he had the worst hands on the team.

One deep reception makes somebody a downfield threat?

Babin's deal with the Eagles is 5 years, $28mil.

Wow that's actually not bad. Figured he would get more than that. Still wouldn't have paid that if I'm the Bears.

I guess my point, is that Olsen is a difference maker at the TE position and has shown improved blocking. He's a piece that can help any offense, especially one as poor as ours. Why the Bears would want to shop him makes absolutely no sense, especially if you have nobody behind him worth anything.

Olsen wants more money. I think this is the last year of his rookie deal, and he's only paid like $600k or something. Martz's offense is never going to showcase what Olsen can do as a receiving TE. My guess is that Olsen and his agent went to the Bears and asked for a trade. They gave permission to seek one for the right price, and then emails were sent. It doesn't seem like the Bears are desperate to trade him, but would if the right deal came along.

Maybe that's an optimistic reading of the situation.

According to FO, the Jags punting efficiency was top 25% in the league last year, while the Bears were below average.

Theoretically, then, net boost to the weakest area of their special teams. Unless it was the coverage team that was the problem.

Haha if all these guys keep signing elsewhere, we're going to have to rework Podash's deal to 5 years 40 million so they hit the salary floor.
