It says he was a "prize of the undrafted class." Context, man.

My bad. I will now sing "Bear Down, Chicago Bears" at the top of my lungs with extra emphasis on the "You're the pride & joy of Illinois" part in celebration of this move that will undoubtedly put us over the top.

You're kidding, right? The only one engaging in ridiculous hyperbole over this guy is you.

Yes, I've been joking all along. I thought that was pretty obvious.

Apparently Maynard didn't get along with Dave Toub...

"[Toub] always used to let me call the direction of every kick. I'd come up to him on the sidelines and say, 'Hey, let's go left here.' And he would just relay the message to all the guys standing around. Late in the '09 season I ran up there and said, 'Let's go left,' and it was 'No, I'm calling it from now on. We're going right.' It just kind of took me aback a little bit.

"I talked to [long snapper Patrick Mannelly] and [place-kicker] Robbie [Gould] about this from that point on over the next couple years. ... There were times when I literally would say left and he would say right and I would say I can't go right. The wind is blowing right to left, we need to go left. If I hit it right down the middle it's going to carry down the left sideline, and he wouldn't let me do it.

"I've had some teammates say you call the direction and we'll cover it. Just let us know. But I can't do that. I'm not that type of player. I'm not selfish. I'm going to do what my coach asks me to do."

Interesting. I assumed that everyone loved him since they obviously play hard (and well) for him. Can't be good for Toub's head coaching aspirations.

Confirmed: #Bears will add UTEP WR Kris Adams (6-3, 195, runs a 4.4 40).

On the heels of what @mikecwright reported Monday, Bears WRs told by team the organization will not be in market for big $$$ receiver. JD

The guy is 6'3" and runs a 4.4. To not have gotten drafted, he must have been the first receiver in history to play without hands

Per Wes Bunting:

Has a nice-sized frame with decent speed down the field once he gets going, but looks limited as more of a vertical pass catcher. Reminds me a bit of a poor man's Devin Aromashodu and is a fringe roster guy.

Height: 6’3

Weight: 195

College: UTEP

40 Time: 4.50

Class: Senior

Stock:

Projected: 7th-FA

Stats

2010 – 47 catches, 1070 yards, 22.8 avg, 14 TD’s

2009 – 42 catches, 580 yards, 13.8 avg, 2 TD’s

2008 – 50 catches, 958 yards, 19.1 avg, 14 TD’s

2007 – 5 catches, 49 yards, 9.8 avg, 0 TD’s

Overview:

Kris Adams is a WR that will probably not make an NFL roster but should stick around on the practice squad. While he does have some nice areas to his game, he isn’t a very polished WR. If he is given the time to improve and get some good coaching, he may develop into a nice 4th or 5th option on a team, although he will probably never be a starter.

Scouting Report:

Positives

- Tall

- Good athlete

- Deceptive quickness

- Productive

- 3 year starter

- Great deep threat

- Tracks the ball well over his shoulder

- Doesn’t let the ball get into his pads

Negatives

- Needs to get a lot stronger

- Plays small

- Isn’t very physical and doesn’t use his 6’3 frame

- Lacks explosiveness off the LOS

- Doesn’t run very many routes

- Has trouble with concentration and it leads to drops

- Looks disinterested at times

- Won’t offer much as a blocker

- Won’t get much after the catch

- Level of competition could be an issue

Bears are talking with Nick Roach, and would like to keep him.

Notre Dame RB Robert Hughes signs with the Bears. 5-11, 245....probably has to be a FB in the NFL.

I don't understand this. We have 99% of 37 million to spend. Why not spend a little to improve your team at WR. I want to tie up Angelo and make him watch all his WRs routes in the Patriots and Packers (playoff) game on a loop.

I actually kind of like the receivers we have, its just we need that marquee guy, not some undrafted FA. He might work out just fine but based on the odds, he probably won't.

I'd be pretty damn happy with the receivers as is if they were using that money to better shore up the OL and the running game.

Why? The receivers stink.

No, they don't. There's no standout #1, and I'd have no problem adding one, but I'm confident that given the talent of the QB, a stronger OL and a more well-rounded running threat would make the receivers the Bears already have look a LOT better.

The O-line isn't really that far away, so I don't see the need to sign more than 1 starting O-line anyways. Maybe 1 starter and 1 backup.

Between Carimi, Williams, Kreutz, Garza and Webb, the only one's I'd even consider replacing are Garza and Kreutz. But Kreutz is probably the best C we could get in the FA market even if he's pretty mediocre now. So I'm willing to replace Garza (aka make him the backup at G and C), and go with those other 4. Williams hasn't been consistently good yet but giving up on him now would be foolish as he's shown real flashes. Webb seemed like he came on strong at the end of last year and the Bears love him, so I don't think it makes sense to demote him.

"Best of the Undrafted Free Agent Class" is like being King of Turd Mountain.

lol...yea there's no undrafted success stories out there...like Kurt Warner, or Warren Moon, or Antonio Gates, or Priest Holmes, or Tony Romo, or Jeff Saturday, or Adam Vinateri, or .

I never said there wasn't. There's always diamonds in the rough. But as of right now they don't have much value and you can't be certain they'll even develop into useful players.

Why don't you start up a packers thread and post there instead? :)
