Anyone want to give me a quick report on Anthony Adams? The Vikings are reportedly pursuing him.

Stout vs. the run. Not the biggest, strongest, or fastest DT in the world, but good technique, stays low, does his job. Won't provide very much pass rush, but a great teammate and one of the best locker room guys the Bears have. Not quite Pat Williams in his heyday, but would be a pretty good fit for Vikings.

Yeah I've read that they view him as at least part of a rotation to replace Pat.

On a related note, they are saying the Bears may have interest in Roy Williams when the Cowboys finally release him.

It might have to do with the fact that Williams' best season as a pro came with Martz as his OC. Wouldn't be opposed to the Bears signing Williams once he is released.

Plus the WR coach Darryl Drake coached him at Texas. Interesting. I would be surprised if he doesn't come here at this point.

Tressor Baptiste (Texas A&M)

This person did not go to Texas A&M. I've never heard of him before.

Very, very opposed to this. Williams over the last 3 years has averaged 37 catches, 519 yards and under 5 TDs. And it's not like he's been up and down. He's had between 36-38 catches and between 530-596 yards each of the last 3 years. He wasn't able to put up numbers with TO there. He got passed by Miles Austin and Dez Bryant on the list of targets (along with being behind Witten also). And when Patrick Crayton was still in Dallas, he outproduced Roy Williams too as the #3 WR. And he'll be 30 at the end of the year. Roy Williams is not a good football player anymore.

I'm with Raw on Roy Williams. The guy has all the size and potential, but it just fails to materialize when gametime starts.

Plus I'd want someone to deck him everytime he got up and made a 1st down gesture....*shudder*

Lombardi says the Bears are the leaders for Brad Smith right now.

Sweet. I've really warmed up on Sims-Walker. Him, Hester, Knox, Smith, Bennett would be solid, especially with Olsen and Forte. Of course it won't matter much if they don't add some pieces to the OL.

Bears reportedly after Willie Colon of the Steelers to play RG. Looks like the Bears are going quantity over quality (in terms of elite players).

I'd be Ok with an offseason of:

RG- Colon

WR/KR- Smith

WR- Sims-Walker

LB- Durant

P- Weatherford

Some DL help and re-signing guys like Roach, Kreutz (or another C), Graham (who they want to bring back), etc.

How does that group fit within the budget/cap? Is there still enough to make a big splash somewhere? Seems like they are laying low right now. Maybe they are trying to pinch the money they have available for as many upgrades as possible rather than grabbing the most expensive options available? Still need RB help, IMO. The draft didn't address WR or RB, which need more depth.

It definitely would fit. I think the Bears would focus on bringing more of their guys back for depth reasons. But a big splash would be possible if the Bears don't re-sign guys like Kreutz, Graham, Anthony Adams, etc. Problem is if they go Colon and stick to their guns about not going after a big-time WR, then that only leaves DL for the big splash. Jason Babin would not be ideal, but would be a big splash. Cullen Jenkins or Brandon Mebane wouldn't break the bank at DT, but would probably be higher paid than anyone else I listed above.

Alex Linnenkohl (Oregon State)

Hub Arkush said this morning that of the UDFA's, Alex is the one who he would watch.

Yes, I know, it's Hub. But frankly out of 26 UDFA's I'll take any callout I can get as to who might actually stick on the team.

Unless you're of the opinion that having a stronger OL helps both. Bigger holes to run, and more time for WR's to run routes.

I don't see how getting Brad Smith is of any help to Cutler. He's a no. 3 at best, and is basically a Hester type inasmuch as he is a talented returnman and WR is not his "natural" position. Cutler's most reliable option remains Greg Olson, IMO.

I'm guessing we see more wildcat with Smith back there.

Brad Biggs is downplaying the Bears interest in Smith...

“We haven’t heard one thing about Smith. Don’t know where that is coming from.” Posted 2 hours ago.

1 hour ago he posted “I never said they were in the market for him.” in response to somebody asking about Brad Smith.

#Bears traded 37th overall pick in 2007 to #Chargers who drafted Eric Weddle. Bears got back 2nd, 2 3rds and a 5th rd pick from SD.

#Bears turned those picks into Dan Bazuin, Garrett Wolfe, Kevin Payne, Marcus Harrison. Weddle just agreed to richest safety contract in NFL

Id be pretty darn happy with a Willie Colon signing. He was rated at the #1 RT in 2009 before his 2010 injury. 28 Y/O is a plus too. If its between Bears, Bills and Hawks i like the Bears chances.

At this point I'm not too optimistic that the Bears will even address WR in free agency. Colon is not a very good football player @ RG

That's not true. Colon is a solid player. Was solid at RT. Better fit at RG.
