Bears sign 6'4 220 WR from the CFL Andy Fantuz

I like the size, but does anyone know how fast this guy is? Looks like he was a star in the CFL, but so is Henry Burris.

4.52 in the 40-yard dash at the 2006 NFL combine according to some guy on another board.

doesn't sound like he's all that fast, but then again the Bears have a couple really fast guys already.

EDIT: Apparently he ran a 4.72 at the CFL combine. Didn't realize they had one.

This video has a better shot of a foot race at about 1:10 in:

Supposedly ran a 4.52 at NFL combine in 2006. And I just read he ran a 4.79 for the Vikings.

For comparison:

Vincent Jackson ran a 4.46

Roddy White ran a 4.47

Larry Fitzgerald ran a 4.53

Hakeem Nicks ran 4.51

Marques Colston ran 4.55

Speed is important, but it 's probably overrated at WR. The Bears have 2 sub 4.3 guys at WR now. But the guy actually looks pretty slow. We'll see.

Gaither is a possible huge upgrade for anyone. I doubt he gets a big deal from anyone either, so a shortterm incentive laden deal would(could) benefit us or most teams in the NFL.

Urlacher Defensive Player of the Year votes = 2

Urlacher Comeback player of the year votes = 0

Does that make sense?

I really don't expect the Bears to sign a big name WR in the offseason.

Based only partly on this, per Rotoworld:

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Bears ownership is unlikely to let general manager Jerry Angelo spend in free agency like he did in 2010.

The Bears are an offseason removed from spending big money on Julius Peppers, Chester Taylor, and Brandon Manumaleuna. Angelo will need to fill a significant number of holes through the draft, so it would not be surprising to see the Bears trading down for multiple picks.

perhaps we can trade our pick to the packers for their pick and a 7th rounder. they can then use that to take someone who would have benefited us greatly.

Wasn't really expecting to spend 2 years in a row. We could still find a way to make a trade.

I honestly don't have the faith in Angelo to let me even consider that as a legitimate possibility.

Brad Biggs is doing a position by position analysis of the Bears...one position daily over this past week, and this coming week. In his analysis of the O-line, he has this, which I know won't really surprise anyone, but just is almost unbelievable:

In nine drafts, Angelo has selected an offensive lineman three times in the first three rounds -- Chris Williams (Round 1, 2008), Marc Colombo (Round 1, 2002) and Terrence Metcalf (Round 3, 2002).

Speaking of Chris Williams, it's going to be really interesting to see what position he's playing next season.

Yup weve been mentioning that for awhile here. I personally cannot understand how you can build a respectable line with that sort of track record in the draft.
