Rhabdomyolysis. That is crazy.

hmm, now what could cause a bunch of football players to have the same type of muscle damage?

Apparently it's an overexertion thing. Stories coming out about how grueling workouts have been since they came back from break last week.

If it was steroids I don't think they would be putting out a press release and then leaking what the illness is.

which is exactly why they did that. throw us off the scent.

12 players all having the same condition due to overexertion? Uh-huh.

I meant that the condition is classified as an overexertion thing. I had never heard of it in my life. I have no idea what the cause is. The stories coming out are that the workouts since coming back from break have been crazy grueling. Could be supplement related.

If it's from purely overworking, Doyle should be in some pretty big trouble, right?

I'm sure a lawsuit will be coming up if everyone doesn't turn out alright from this.

And it was just announced that the MWC will indeed move TCU's home game against Boise State to Boise State.

Is that just to say "[expletive] you" to TCU for leaving?

That and the MWC has a vested interest in Boise winning. It can count both of them toward their application for an autobid this year, but only Boise will count in the next cycle, which includes this year.

Possibly. It sounds like being dehydrated and then having excessive activity is a main cause. Being poorly hydrated right when coming back from break wouldn't be a surprise. Especially if they were taking some kind of supplement and not drinking extra water.

I see...I didn't realize that this year was counted in the next cycle.

My Rebs just got a commitment from the No.2 LB in the country and No.21 overall, C.J. Johnson. \:D/

Should have a top 15 recruiting class when all is said and done.

so mediocre ole miss is pulling in a top 15 class? sounds like some money must be flying around oxford.

Apparently Johnson was leaning towards Mississippi State, but their fans harassed him so much on Facebook he ruled them out.

It would never happen, but it would be funny as hell if TCU declinded a BCS invite just to block the conference from recieving any money. I fully expect TCU to fight this somehow.

They're pulling in a top class because they have 29 verbals despite only 15 departures. That's a lot of roster cuts, gray shirts, and bogus medical hardships.

Apparently, Doyle put them through some ridiculous workouts (100 reps at 50% max on bench and squat, then had them pushing sleds 100 yards at full speed) and they apparently were not properly hydrated.

They should threaten to leave the conference!! Oh wait....

Texas is nearing full on doing whatever the hell they want mode:

cft[/url]"]Somewhat lost amidst the intense glare given off by the $300 million deal Texas signed with ESPN to create the Longhorn television network (Bevo-TV? ESPNUT?) was the content that will be utilized to fill the 24-hour channel.

Specifically, the rather startling revelation that high school games — including football — are expected to be broadcast by the network. How this is even possible, that a university-branded TV entity can televise games involving potential recruits, is at minimum head-scratching and raises a gigantic red NCAA flag the size of the state the network will be centered in.

And, of course, the televising of high school games, football and otherwise, has at least one in-state rival raising both flags and questions.

By way of the San Antonio Express-News, Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne seemed to intimate that he is hopeful the NCAA will look into the prep angle of Texas’ new network.

“I can’t speak for the NCAA, but I would imagine the governing body will look into the use of a collegiate television network airing games of prospective student-athletes,” Byrne said. “I understand networks such as FSN and ESPN airing high school sports, but whether or not employees under contract with a university that may have additional contact would seem to be an issue.”

OU has a similar chanel coming out soon and I am guessing other schools will follow suit, i'm sure the NCAA will step in and write some new rules as they should. I don't think the they should be allowed to feature recruits just to lure them to the schools.

Decent article on the oversigning of recruits. This should be a big area of focus for the NCAA, but of course it won't be. The biggest problem I have is that often times the schools are not being honest with the players during the recruiting process. Fixing this will allow the kids to make the right decision and go to the school they want or will actually have a chance to play at. The transfer process is too much of a pain in the ass.

KU and Ole Miss were the two finalists for a JUCO QB named Zack Stoudt this year. Nutt promised the kid he wouldn't take any more QBs this year, so he ended up going with Ole Miss. Three weeks later, Ole Miss took another QB. Stoudt was reportedly furious, but since he came in at semester, he was locked in at Ole Miss.

I honestly don't know how coaches get away with stuff like that. You'd think they'd start to build a reputation for oversigning and being dishonest, but I guess not.

I'd imagine the kids in these situations would always be painted as the jilted lover, and not be taken seriously. Oooh, the little punk's afraid of a little competition? If you're not good enough for the SEC that's not our problem son.

Oversigning is really just now starting to catch on with the national media on a consistent basis helped by real stories of kids getting screwed (see the ESPN OTL piece done on LSU). But conferences (SEC and Big 12) aren't going to limit the practice on their own in any significant way. It's really up to the national media to shame coaches and programs into changing. Hopefully the Big Ten conference can use their standing to make it more of an issue. Up until now they've been pretty quiet about it going on nationwide.

You also have to remember that most football recruits think very highly of their own abilities. They're not afraid of competition. It's hard to take a step back and ask how I'm going to fit into a program that's signing nearly 2x as many recruits as scholarships available.

You should check out oversigning.com. They've got a lot of great stuff.

No, he made his Tennessee visit the weekend before. He cancelled his Clemson visit for this weekend and attended the AU celebration but told the mods for UT's Rivals site that he was at home. From what many UT sites are reporting, the coaches believe Wright is a Vol, and on his official visit he told multiple other recruits and several current players that he is a Vol, regardless of what he might say or put out in the media. Safety recruit Pat Martin is great friends with Wright and has said that he's gonna be a Vol.

That said, I know that this kid loves to play the recruiting game, and I still expect him to be a Tiger. I'm glad y'all end up with Abdullah, too. UT fans were all excited about getting him, and after having seen him play in person around 6 times the past 2 years, I did not want to waste a scholarship on him. He's just not that good. Maybe he'll be fine as a DB, but if you're recruiting him as a RB, he is a wasted schollie.

As always, jmo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wright signs with the Vols....I might give AU a slight lead, but I wouldn't put money on it either way.

I'm not sure AU signs Abdullah....Tre Mason did commit to AU today. If we think Mason will qualify, I think we'd probably use that scholarship for another purpose....or they could be recruiting Abdullah as a DB in the case that Roberson signs with Florida or Texas Tech.
