from my facebook: "i knew SOCCER players with blown mcl, acl, and meniscus that braced it up and played on IN HIGH SCHOOL. it's not his plant leg (not that he plants to throw a ball anyway) and he wasn't writhing in pain with ice wrapped around it on crutches, he was walking the sidelines with an affective gimp"

This is basically a summary of everything I'm hearing concerning Cutler, aka, "he didn't look hurt therefore he was not hurt".

Well, that story is most likely false.

I'm more interested as to why he's facebook friends with da bum

Another awesome contribution to this thread. You are on a roll. Keep up the good work.

So Collins injured his shoulder on his last pass. Did Lovie know this and took him out as a result or did Lovie take him out because he was bad?

I think the Tribune reported that Jay went to a steakhouse after the game. They had a private room on the second floor. Jay took the stairs. I'm sure more NFL players will jump on him for that.

What part of "the coaching staff pulled Jay Cutler out of the game, even though Jay was attempting to play through the injury" are people struggling with?

But he didn't look like he wanted to play. He didn't look like he cared.

As an aside, I argued with a friend today. I asked him if Peyton Manning left a game with no explanation would you question his heart. He said, "no because Peyton never misses a game". When I told him Cutler only has missed 1 game in 4 years as a starter and that was after a game in which he got sacked 9 times. He said, "he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt." When I asked why....the conversation ended.

People are dumb. On Deadspin today, they posted an interview of some ex-Packer I vaugely remember, and he made a comment about how Cutler's tampon fell out on national TV. Whatever. In that interview he made the oft used argument that you would never see Tom Brady leaving an AFC championship game. Come the [expletive] on WE DID SEE IT HAPPEN! IN 2002!

also, brady missed a whole season last time he had a sprained knee.

He also played that game with basically no ACL and had ACL surgery a day or two after the game. Recovery was supposed to be at least 6 months and he was ready in 3.

I didn't remember all this, so I had to look it up, but I remembered that was something out of the ordinary from him. I can't stand him myself, but he's got to be a tough SOB at the very least.

The funniest thing about all the meatheads offering up Rivers as an example of how Cutler should have played through it is that Rivers was pulled from the game when he actually got hurt. It was the week before against Indy. He got hurt in the 4th quarter, was pulled from the game and Billy Volek led the Chargers to the come from behind win.

He played the following week after having 6 days to test it and have braces specifically designed and still sucked.

Wrong thread

which way to the old information thread?

I did not say that Collins' injury was new news. What I wanted to know is whether Lovie knew Collins was injured and took him out for that reason. Would he have stayed with Collins if Todd wasn't hurt? I didn't think that was discussed. If Lovie would have stuck with Collins and only went to Hanie because he was hurt, that decision is really inexcusable in light of what happened at Carolina.

Sir Charles weighs in on the Cutler stuff:

"I was mad at the players, to be honest with you," Barkley said Tuesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I think it was inappropriate and wrong to question a guy's heart. Now reporters, they're going to do what they want to. They're entitled to their opinion. But as players, I don't think it's appropriate to question another guy's heart.

"That crosses the line, because you don't know. If you go back and start looking at all the stuff that's been said, and clearly one of the more vocal critics was Maurice Jones-Drew, and then you find out he missed the last two games with a bad knee. And he was really the first guy who crucified Jay. You have to be careful, because in the two most important games of the year, he sat out with a bad knee. And then it really makes him look like an idiot now."

He comments on more than just that in the story, as well.

I have wondered the same thing since I heard that Collins was hurt.

I'm guessing that Hanie came in because of the injury. Hanie came in with about a minute left in 3rd, handed the ball off twice and that led to the 4th quarter starting. Why is this significant? Because if you bring your emergency 3rd QB (which Hanie was) into the game before the 4th quarter, your other 2 QBs cannot come back in the game. So if Lovie was gonna pull Collins, it's likely he would have waited til the start of the 4th to do it just in case Hanie really crapped the bed.

you presented two pieces of old information as news. you have a certain principal skinner-iness about you.

It's silly to go back to one of the most extreme examples of a player going out there with a bad injury, and then pull that back and try to make it the new rule for how all players should act with an injury.

If Rivers wants to go out there with a blown out knee, that's fine. It doesn't mean anything in terms of Jay Cutler's toughness.

And of course none of that even touches on the fact that Rivers stunk that game anyway. It was clear he didn't help his team by doing this.

Absolutely. He's an extreme example and to me, is probably the only person I can think of that even has the possible right to question Cutler. The rest of these people have nothing whatsoever to back up their claims.

But, as you said, Rivers lost the game as it stood anyway. He got points for being tough from just about everyone, but in the grand scheme of things, it's possible he kept his team out of the Super Bowl.

He's right, but Rosenbloom still manages to make me want to punch him in the face, even when he's right.

Yeah. Kind of surprising to see him take this angle though. I didn't think he would.

He's back to his usual insanity today, trying to push Martz out the door.

Looks like Cutler injured the knee on the 1st play of the 2nd quarter...

If that's true, Cutler is the biggest badass ever as, like the video points out, he scrambled for like 10-12 yards, and instead of sliding, stiff armed Woodson and took a hit to get tackled.

It also means his complete "healthy" performance was 2-3, 25 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. His post injury performance was 4-11 55 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

We will never know for sure, and he'll never get excused for that performance no matter how much evidence comes to light. All he can do is try to stay healthy and kickass in future playoff games.

Also he still had one really bad overthrow to Hester in the 1st quarter that ended a drive and would have made it 1st and goal with an accurate pass, so not all can be excused.
