I've never understood the fascination with Hasselbeck myself. He's very ordinary.

And he hasn't even been mediocre the last 3 years. He's been terrible. Tarvaris Jackson is probably better.

Glazer says Sidney Rice has agreed to a 5 year deal with the Seahawks. Bummer. Though I was leery of paying him big money if it turned into a bidding war. He wasn't the same guy coming back from the hip last year and you're really paying for his '09 season where Favre was magical.

EDIT: 5 years for $41M with $18.5 guaranteed. Don't think he's worth that much. The Seahawks are getting the band back together with Bevell, Tarvaris and Sidney.

The Chiefs land Steve Breaston. Amazing how they went from "Jamaal Charles was really good down the stretch and that's it" to pretty loaded at skill positions in the matter of about 15 months.

Hasselbeck has completely sucked. McNabb was still a top half of the league QB the two years prior to last. And his bad 2010 was better than what Hasselbeck's best in the last 3 years. There is no measure where Hasselbeck has been better. I have no idea where you guys figure he was "easily the best option out there."

I clearly was going off reputation and hadn't looked at his stats since well before the lockout began. I had no idea he had been that terrible when healthy the past few years.

I still don't dislike the signing, though. Locker's almost certainly not ready to start the season and since the Titans most likely aren't going to be better than an average team this year it won't really matter if Hasselbeck isn't good/gets hurt. My preference of Hasselbeck over McNabb was primarily based on not having to trade anything (even though the Vikings didn't give much for Donovan) for Hasselbeck and the fact that Hasselbeck is a bit more suited to a pure west coast offense than McNabb. I also thought Hasselbeck had been better than he had . . .

Yeah I wasn't totally aware of that either. But I still stand by it. Getting him a change of scenery and putting him in a run-first offense might help. I'm not expecting anything amazing, but I still think he has something left and can be a good mentor for Locker.

So you didn't know he's been terrible for years but he's still the best option out there, despite being demonstrably worse than another option that was out there?

Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th round pick. Could be a genius move or a terrible move, he needs to pass a physical to make it official. Also it sounds like he will have to do whatever "condition test" prerequisites the Patriots have. Belichick is one of a handful of coaches that can get him back to where he used to be.

I love the Pats front office and coaching staff.

The Vikings signed DT Remi Ayodele from the Saints, presumably to be a Pat replacement. Started the last two years for NO and was a run stopper.

Deal is done. Kolb will sign a five-year extension for over $63 million with over $20 mill guaranteed.

Wow...for a guy that's done nothing.

Career Numbers = 3-4 as a starter, 11 TDs, 14 INTs, 73.2 passer rating. He has 3 good starts out of those 7. 3 horrible ones. And 1 right at his mediocre averages.

Even if it was 7 great starts that is still a crazy contract in my opinion.

Waiver wire is open and the cuts are coming fast and furious.

Titans didn't wait....Vince Young has been released.

Philly would be a great landing spot for Vince. He'd have a mobile QB to learn from and the Eagles wouldn't have to change the offense when he came in. Hopefully he'll be good wherever he goes, I'm still pulling for him.

That'd be a really explosive backfield. I still think Vince can be a good starting QB if he'll just put in the necessary work, though.
