NFL Network saying the Vikings and Redskins have essentially agreed to the parameters of a trade for McNabb but the tricky issue is re-structuring his contract.

I'm surprised he would want to come to Minnesota given the situation. If he understands his role and isn't going to pout if he's not effective and they turn it over to Ponder, I would love it. I'm skeptical of that happening though.

What situation? They could contend this year with a couple of bounce back years couldn't they?

It's the NFL so you never know but with a new coaching staff and no offseason I don't expect it.

As far as situation being unappealing to McNabb I was referring to Ponder.

How long do you have to be out of the game after filing retirement papers before being eligible for re-instatement? Because Palmer could officially "retire", go to Canada or whatever for a year to stay in football shape, then come back and be an unrestricted Free Agent and sign wherever he wants, right?

You'd think a Packers fan would know this.

I think he can come back at any time, but his contract is for 4 more years and is valid whenever he is active. Basically unless the Bengals trade or release him, he has to play for them if he wants to play.

Vikings get McNabb and Titans get Hasselbeck. I'm actually pretty happy with both moves.

I was looking forward to Christian Ponder becoming a stain on the Metrodome turf. :(

That'll still likely happen at some point, if the Chad Pennington comparisons ring true.

They still have Webb too though, right? If they think Ponder isn't ready...

I don't know if it's just stupid ESPN bantering, but apparently the Jets are very interested in Asomugha. Him and Revis on the same team is a scary thought.

Their interest in him has been rumored for months and Asomugha has said he'd like to play for the Jets. They'll be paying a ton for him but they'd have the best secondary in the league.

And a ridiculous amount of money tied up in one area.

Yes but he's more raw as a QB prospect than Ponder and they're both learning a new offense. Ideal situation is McNabb with Ponder pushing and taking over if McNabb stinks and Webb as the 3rd guy who now will be active every game and can be used situationally.

Filed to ESPN: Broncos traded WR Jabar Gaffney to Washington for DE jeremy Jarmon.

That's a nice trade for Washington.

How many receivers is that for Washington now? 7?

I think 8, not including UDFA's. But hard to say for sure in this chaos.

Hasselbeck was easily the best option out there. With the lockout pushing everything back, the best move was probably to bring in a veteran QB to give Locker more time to learn the offense. Hasselbeck should actually be good if he can stay healthy.

Agreed. It made too much sense to not happen, especially with his ties in the FO. He's who I wanted from the get-go when I learned the Titans wanted a veteran QB.

Based on what?

Age- Hasselbeck turns 36 in Sept, McNabb turns 35 in Nov.

Games last 3 years: Hasselbeck 35, McNabb 43

TD:INT last 3 years- Hasselbeck 34:44, McNabb 59:36

Completion percentages- Hasselbeck 52, 60, 60. McNabb 60, 60, 58

YPA- Hasselbeck 5.8, 6.2, 6.2. McNabb 6.9, 8.0, 7.2

QB Rating- Hasselbeck 58, 75, 73. McNabb 86, 93, 77

Football Outsiders DYAR

2008- Hasselbeck -334 (40th in league), McNabb 1,048 (9th in league)

2009- Hasselbeck -334 (41st in league), McNabb 619 (16th in league)

2010- Hasselbeck 32 (35th in league), McNabb 354 (25th)

Hasselbeck has completely sucked. McNabb was still a top half of the league QB the two years prior to last. And his bad 2010 was better than what Hasselbeck's best in the last 3 years. There is no measure where Hasselbeck has been better. I have no idea where you guys figure he was "easily the best option out there."
