I believe Tampa Bay's owner has a financial stake in Manchester United, which is the reason for their frequent involvement. It may be that other teams aren't willing to give up a home game.

So Green Bay wins the Super Bowl and gets 1 Monday Night game, but Jacksonville gets two. That makes tons of sense.

None of the popular teams have many Monday night games. That's not the desirable night. I don't know if for away teams the Thanksgiving game counts for the 5 night game maximum. Otherwise it's a little surprising that Green Bay didn't get the maximum number of night games.

Yeah, I think the Thanksgiving slot counts as a primetime game.

I'm glad we only have one Monday nighter. That crew makes every MNF game near unwatchable.

You're right in that respect. I still like having the national showcase though.

To me that's extremely surprising.

Both GB's lack of MNF, and also Jacksonville -- of all teams -- getting 2.

Maybe this has already been discussed, but where do the coaches fall in this? Is there a separate coaches union? or ae they considered part of the league/owners/team?

Stat Geeks!

On Tuesday, Joe Staysniask of 1070 the Fan posed this query to Polian: “What do these guys, [Anthony] Castonzo and [ben] Ijalana have that are going to help with that running game?

“Well, first off all, let me say that the discussion of the running game is way off base. This is a stats geek looking at a stat and saying, ‘Oh, gee. Indianapolis has a problem.’ We finished first in the conference and, I believe, second in the league in total offense. [Editor's note: The Colts were third in the conference and fourth in the league in total offense, not first and second, respectively.] We’re always among the top four or five in scoring every year. The object of the game is to score. It’s not to make stats geeks happy in terms of yards per carry. And I’m criticizing people who, make no bones about it, who deal only in statistics. The object of our running game, because we are such a high scoring, high powered offense, is to run effectively; i.e., run in the red zone, which we do very, very effectively. And run in four minutes and short yardage, which we have not done effectively.”

Not quite the pure awesomeness that Gus Johnson/Mike Mayock would have been, but still solid.

Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock paired together for NFL Network broadcasts

Nessler and Sean McDonough are my two favorite college football play by play guys in some order. Nessler will be good on those games, although I like him better on college games.

I like Nessler a lot. I hadn't thought about this move taking him off college broadcasts - that'd suck if it does. This is a much better team than the NFL Network has ever had, though.

some updates:

- NFL Owners win their appeal against Judge Nelson's decision, which means the lockout (as of now) is still on and considered legal. Next court date is June 3.

- Players are currently bringing a case to court that would prevent the owners from collecting any TV revenue from unplayed games.

Anybody get a little excited hearing about the secret meeting in Dupage County? Apparently not all owners knew about it, it was kept under the radar with just a few of the big name ones attending, along with Smith and a couple players. I wonder if the McCaskeys were kept abreast of the meeting, since they are not mentioned as having attended but obviously are very close to where they took place. They do not seem to be very influential, and just go along with whatever the Rooney/Mara types agree on.
