and if you don't think that feud is staged, you're probably a wrestling fan.

It probably is, because Vince McMahon loves him some publicity. Or it's just two guys bitching at each other on twitter that will have no affect on anything.

wrestling is real dammit

Packers released AJ Hawk today. Hopefully he's re-signed to a more cap-friendly deal.

That's what they're trying to do.

Donald Lee and Derrick Martin also cut today.

Barnett's probably going to be the odd man out now.

Probably. Will Zombo replace him, or am I completely missing someone?

Bishop? Didn't he play there most of the year anyway? And play well enough to make Barnett expendable?

I WAS missing someone.

Like I said earlier in the season: So many guys stepped up and did well replacing injured starters that Thompson and McCarthy are going to have some very difficult decisions to make.

Looks like Shockey will sign a 2 year deal with Carolina.

Shockey, Steve Smith and Cam Newton. What could possibly go wrong???

Not trying to start anything, but that's how teams catch up to the SB champs. Depth!

Packers could easily lose all of Lee, Jenkins, Peprah, Bigby, Jolly, Colledge, Spitz, Jones, Barnett, Jackson this year. They are going to lose Driver, Clifton, Grant, and possibly Woodson in the next couple years. Not to mention all the players that will get hurt and not come back as strong. And players that will either not have repeat years or fail to live up to their contracts and be cap casualties. Granted that's not a lot of household names and the core is very strong....but losing depth hurts.

The Packers draft well, but no team can fill all the holes that a couple offseasons can create (other than the Patriots).

We'll probably lose a few of those guys, but I'd say the chances of losing all of them are slim to none. I do think Jenkins is gone and the writing is on the wall for Barnett.

I'm definitely on board for drafting another WR, especially with this year's wideout class. Driver's not getting any younger and who knows if Jones will be back or not?

Apparently there was significant progress made yesterday, and Michael Silver from Yahoo says that "smart money is on a settlement" and that nobody wants "armageddon".

Sounds like when it comes right down to it, everybody was bluffing...maybe even bluffing themselves.

Sounds like a deal will include an 18 game schedule, and a rookie wage scale.

I have mixed feelings on the 18 game schedule, but I really like the rookie wage scale.

I hate the 18 game idea. Most fans do too based on polls. Don't know why that would be in the CBA.

The revenue from the extra games will help offset some of the "off the top" revenue that the owners don't have to share with the players. Players are going to get a few other concessions as well...health care during potential future lockouts...limitations to offseason workouts and training camp practices...and a new formula allowing them to qualify for certain benefits with fewer seasons played than in the past.

Apparently another week extension is "all but a done deal" per SportsBusiness Journal....and per Michael Silver, that means that both sides view that as "an almost ironclad statement that a deal is forthcoming – and a work stoppage will have been averted."

Wait, why do fans hate the 18 game schedule?

Because it's unnecessary. Further risks the health of teams' best players. Diminishes the overall talent of the league as 18 games means more roster spots on the gameday rosters and the practice squads (due to teams being more hesitant to IR a player with more weeks to get them back).

I understand the arguments against it, but do any of them stack up against that there will be 2 more weeks of football?

I guess if somebody cared a ton about the playoffs and much less about the regular season than an 18 game season would be a bad idea. For me, having 2 more Sundays worth of football is wonderful. And I don't think the talent level will drop that much. There will be more players injured but there will be more time for star players to come back from injuries as well without getting IR'd (especially if there are more roster spots).

I understand 2 more weeks of footbal is great, but technically there's not because they are taking away 2 preseason games too. Not that preseason football is any good.

Plus, I think you have more of a chance for more meaningless games. If a team like the Colts, Pats, or Saints goes 14-0 to start the year again, they'll have 4-6 meaningless games instead of 2-3. Same is true for bad teams. I just don't think it's necessary to have 2 more games and I love football.

The length of preseason football is a net negative for me so removing games is an extra bonus!

Yes, there could be a few more meaningless games. But very few teams ever go undefeated for that long and it would be unlikely for a team to clinch HFA before they hit 15-0. I bet it would be very, very rare for a team to have more than 2 meaningless games in a season. And with divisional games being put at the end of the season this will be even more true. Plus teams will have slim hopes of the playoffs longer and won't pack it in just because they started 2-6.
