In forgone conclusion news:

Munchak will officially be introduced at a 3 pm press conference. #Titans

Not thrilled with the move, but he's probably no more or less of a gamble than a guy like Perry Fewell. And he's better than a failed coach like Mularkey. Don't hate it, don't love it. We'll likely see little to no staff/personnel turnover because of the move.

Not a move that's going to change the Titans as a franchise. There will be no philosophy or personnel overhauls (other than QB). Seems like the best case scenario is exactly what they've done the last 5-10 years.

Most likely that's the case. I don't know if Munchak is a devotee of Fisher's philosophy, but I'm sure he shares many of the same tendencies and preferences. It wouldn't surprise me if Munchak is simply a stopgap hire while the CBA stuff gets worked out and Fisher's contract (along with the rest of the staff) goes off the books. After all that, Bud may look for another coach.

Munchak is a long time Oiler/Titan, however, and Bud may be doing what Michigan did – hire the "Houston man" regardless of whether he's the best hire or not.

Now that Munchak has been hired, look for him to add former #Titans lineman Bruce Matthews to his coaching staff.

This is a move I can get behind, if for no other reason than sentimentality. We should continue to have a great line with Munchak and Matthews on the coaching staff, though.

What are you hearing in terms in a DC?

Nothing yet. I expect Heimerdinger to return as OC, McGinnis as LB coach, Lowry as ST coach, Loggains as QB coach and Robertson as secondary coach. I would expect Matthews to be the offensive line coach should he be hired.

No idea on who the DC might be. I don't think McGinnis wants the job and I know Fisher was strongly considering Mangini before he was fired. The hire may still be Mangini, but Munchak may have his own idea. I'm just not sure.

shnsajax, I'd assume you've heard this, but I just found it.

Kirk Bohls, a sports columnist with the Austin American-Statesman, wrote today that new Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak is interested in hiring new Longhorns defensive backs coach Jerry Gray as his defensive coordinator.

Yep, thats what stemmed my question. I haven't heard that he is interested but that he could be. I'm not even sure that Gray is interested as he just left the NFL to go back to UT and wants to be the next DC at UT. He even turned down more money from Pete Carroll to go back to Austin. Thankfully signing day, but having Gray is a huge plus towards recruiting and I don't want to lose him already.

I don't know that much about Gray from a coaching perspective, so I don't know how I feel about Munchak potentially pursuing him. Still wish Fisher would have hired Dave Wannstedt before getting fired.

#Titans have fired offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, sources say

It's just a matter of time before Matthews joins Munchak's staff. The two are good friends, and Bruce's son Kevin plays with #Titans

Very surprising to me. I didn't think Bud would be ok with paying too many coaches to not coach.

I'd like Heimerdinger as the Bears OC. Maybe he's out of a job all year and Martz leaves afer 2011.

It's going to be very tough to find an OC better than Dinger at this point. Hopefully Munchak has somebody good in mind.

The #Titans on Tuesday officially notified the University of Texas of their plans to interview Jerry Gray for their DC position

It appears Gray is #1 on Munchak's list.

Thats what I have also read but also heard that Gray is not interested at this time. Sounds like bad timing, as he was trying hard to get back to Austin this offseason. I don't know if he simply wanted out of the NFL, back in College, or just trying to be closer to home.

Still he would be leaving a lot of money on the table to stay in Austin.

No idea who Munchak might look at if Gray declines. Them having worked on the same staff and apparently being friends might just sway him, though.

Yeah I won't be surprised if he takes it.

i enjoyed that mark sanchez story on deadspin. especially the part about texting a 17 year old girl on multiple occasions at 2 a.m. asking if she was out or going out. if she's in bed because she has high school the next day and you're away trying to party, maybe that's a sign that your lives are in very different places and you shouldn't be pursing this.
