He was ruled ineligible and then reinstated.

Yeah...it's a procedural thing...so that Auburn could "report" it and the NCAA could dismiss it. Pretty shady, imo.

The NCAA found that there is no evidence that Auburn or Cam knew about Cecil Newton's shakedown of MSU. The investigation regarding whether Cecil received money from MSU or Auburn isn't closed though per my understanding.

I still worry that new evidence could be introduced, but this is a step in the right direction. If the NCAA was willing to confirm he is eligible to play, then I think the Milton McGregor wiretaps probably don't include anything that incriminates AU.

Ah the Calipari defense.

I liked "the Shaggy defense" that I saw on twitter earlier.

Auburn completed an internal investigation back in July, and they found no evidence of wrongdoing on AU's behalf. The NCAA has agreed with that assessment based upon the current facts of the case. This should silence those that believed AU was 'ALL IN' (gd, i'm tired of hearing that), and chose to play Cam in spite of evidence that proved he was ineligible. AU and the NCAA are only going to act on the facts of the case.

New evidence could still make Cam ineligible retroactively.

Gruden to Miami has been rumored to be a done deal twice. Both instances have been followed by rejections either from Gruden himself or a source close to him.

Source close to Gruden says "zero" chance of Miami. UM source says talks "exploratory" and search continues.

I find it a little farfetched that his dad was doing all this stuff that he supposedly had "no idea" about

burden of proof isn't on AU or Cam. There evidently isn't evidence that suggests that Cam knew about his father's dealings with Kenny Rogers and MSU coaches.

seriously, why would gruden want to coach in college? he'd have to work his ass off. he's got a nice, cushy job. if anything, he's waiting for a pro opportunity.

Maybe for the same reason a lot of college coaches don't want to coach in the NFL. I don't know if he would do it but I think he would be great in college. Besides the assistant coaches do more work than the HC.

Do you really believe this? All that smoke and no fire... Y'all happen to get the #1's from MS, AK, LA, FL's #3 player, GA's #5 and the top JUCO player and it's totally because Auburn is just that badass and Chizik is such a draw. C'mon.

Is there anyone who really believes that the next coach at Miami will be anyone other than Dan Mullen?

No doubt. Oh, and it probably helps that his Defensive Coordinator right now at State is Manny Diaz who is the son of the Mayor of Miami from 2001-2009.

this is a pretty lazy way of accusing a school of cheating. according to the rivals and scout rankings they were not even in the top 10 as far as average # of stars; their class rated #4/#6 because they had a crapload of scholarships to give out (32). it's not like they bagged a USC class with all blue chip prospects.

The NCAA just ruled that as long as the player denies he knew anything about being shopped around – even by someone as close as his own father – then there is no penalty. And let’s not give any credit to the NCAA banning Cecil Newton from associating with Mississippi State (why would he anyway?) and allowing just “limited” association with Auburn, a school they’ll leave in the tail lights one minute after his son’s final game. That’s the biggest non-penalty penalty of all time.

At this point, why wouldn’t the parent of every recruit in America ask about getting paid? What’s the harm, right? Just do it behind your son’s back – or at least pretend. You might as well see what’s out there, even if it’s just for the fun of it.

The NCAA has taken one of its better deterrents – a rule that clearly stated no one representing an athlete can even solicit extra benefits – and all but reversed it. They’ve essentially said that you’d be a fool for not soliciting.

Right, that's the ONLY reason why I'm accusing them of cheating...gimme a break. There's a WHOLE hell of a lot of smoke out there. But for someone who has followed SEC West recruiting for years, that Auburn class last year was mighty fishy to a lot of people when they signed all those studs from surrounding states. As soon as they got all those guys people were remarking on "how'd they pull that off?".

That ruling is such a joke.

Are there any proponents out there with this ruling? Besides Auburn fans. Why is it that because they couldn't find evidence on AU they wouldn't penalize the Newtons for what they pulled with Miss State and just leave AU alone outside of that (pending further investigation). The I had no idea that was happening defense shouldn't fly. Hold the player accountable during the recruiting process so in the future they make sure their daddy didn't go behind their back (laughable) and make 100k off his signing.
