Another year, another team that Mizzou beat up going to a bowl over them. Best chance now is for the Insight against Iowa.

I feel your pain. I will be watching two teams that A&M beat play for the conference championship when we had the same conference record as those two teams.

ATM fans are starting to sound like Texas fans in 2008, but with a much less stable leg to stand on.

I hesitate to respond for fear of simpletons thinking I am crying about the situation, but how do we not have a stable leg to stand on? Nebraska finished 6-2 in conference. OU finished 6-2 in conference. A&M finished 6-2 in conference. We beat both of them head-to-head. I understand that per Big 12 rules, we are left out. That doesn't make me happy, but that's the way it goes. We made our own bed. We should have beat OSU when we had the chance, but we didn't. A couple of months ago we were 3-3 and wondering if we needed to make another coaching change. Now we are 9-3 with 2 wins over Top 10 teams and a berth in the Cotton Bowl against a very good SEC team. That is reason to be happy in Aggieland.

I say this because there were more than a few Aggies who thought they were going to jump either OU or OkST while having more losses.

That's just stupid. No one in their right mind could have expected that. It was a Lloyd Christmas one in a million chance of that happening.

I don't think they really have much less leg to stand on than Texas in 2008. This was a pet peeve of mine, but head-to-head between two teams is irrelevant in a three-way tie.

Texas A&M to the Cotton Bowl.

Stewart Mandel believes that means the loser between Nebraska and Oklahoma will go to the Alamo Bowl, Mizzou to Insight, and Oklahoma State to the Holiday Bowl.

Haha, OKST is really getting punished for that loss to OU.

I'd take Holiday over Alamo (because we were just there) and probably Insight as well (because the Insight trophy is the ugliest piece of [expletive] ever is really my only reason for this).

Honestly, there is very little difference between the three bowls. All pay $3M+ and all are on ESPN.

The Holiday strikes me as the marquee bowl of those three. The quality of competition is high (Pac 10 No. 3), it's typically the featured event of the evening, and the games tend to be competitive and high scoring. It's the only one of the three I try to watch regardless of who's playing.

well nebraska is in another division so there's no point in griping about that, and there was a three-way tie at the top of the big xii south, with each team going 1-1 against the other two. so if you guys were in then oklahoma state would have been in the same position. you can't break a tie without someone getting "screwed" (even though it's really not getting screwed at all)

Except the PAC 10 team this year will be Washington. I'd gladly take th Insight against Iowa or Michigan.

It sounds like it might be Michigan. That's not even a fair fight. How does a 10-2 Big Twelve team end up playing a 7-5 Big Ten team in a bowl game?

Sounds like Gruden is going to be the next coach for the Canes.

Sunday night, SI.com‘s Peter King stated very emphatically on Twitter that “Jon Gruden is not going to the University of Miami. Period.” Gruden himself released a statement shortly after the tweet that was, basically, a non-denial denial of interest in the job.

Apparently, though, the past 48 hours have brought about a dramatic and potentially program-changing shift to the situation.

According to a report on the Rivals.com website CaneSport.com, and we’re quoting here, “final details are being hammered out and, barring a last minute [sic] glitch, Jon Gruden will be the next Miami Hurricanes football coach.” The site goes on to write that “[d]etails are being finalized tonight and if athletic director Kirby Hocutt and Gruden can work out all details then an announcement could be made as soon as Wednesday.”

The site also reported that Gruden’s brother Jay is expected to become the Hurricanes’ offensive coordinator.

There may not be a Pac-10 #3 since there are currently 3 bowl-eligible teams in that league and two of them are going to BCS games.

CNN.com Breaking News

Auburn QB Cam Newton eligible to compete and play in SEC title game, NCAA says after probing pay-for-play allegations.

That should end any doubts on the Heisman race too.

What a strange decision.

The NCAA has has ruled Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is eligible to compete after looking into his recruitment at Auburn and Mississippi State.

The NCAA's statement said:

"Auburn University football student-athlete Cam Newton is immediately eligible to compete, according to a decision today by the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff. The NCAA concluded on Monday that a violation of amateurism rules occurred, therefore Auburn University declared the student-athlete ineligible yesterday for violations of NCAA amateurism rules."
