College Football - Championship Week (Dec. 4th)

but fresno got uber lucky last year.

they couldn't give us calls on our own field against a wac team. that's sad when you get that kind of respect.

Well the Big Ten pisses all over us because we suck, and the WAC pisses all over us because they have little brother syndrome. Sometimes I think I would be happier had I gone to Madison. Being an Illinois fan sucks, we just keep finding new ways to suck.

we better have a basketball national championship ready to go this year. but well, i can't guarantee the lack of respect for illinois athletics won't spill over into that realm, either. wait, it already has. foul on arch and augie.

foul on tisdale, foul on tisdale, foul on tisdale. at least leonard is guaranteed to get his money worth when hightower tries to job him.

yes, someone needs to never officiate another football game. i just don't understand how they can watch the replay and not overturn it, how does that work?

i wish bielema was our coach, he would absolutely let the officials have it and he would be vicious.

So does Zooker get fired after this year?

Hopefully, the Beavers and Gamecocks win today to completely throw off the BCS.

I love watching football in the snow. This Cincy game should be entertaining.

I would to if I didn't have directv or if it wasn't snowing here.

Nope, Guenther loves him like a son. We weren't expected to go bowling, so this season was a success. He should have been canned after last season but they cleaned house to give him one more shot.

This team should have been 8-4. Next year hinges on what LeShoure decides to do, but we finally have an out of conference schedule I think we can handle. 8 regular season wins should be a baseline.

anyone else disgusted by how many of ESPN's talking heads were saying that Auburn/Oregon should still go to the NC game even if they lose? I guess ESPN being the channel for the BCS games means they now need to shill for the system

That was beyond predictable. They were all for a playoff when Fox had the BCS.

I've heard a lot of people say that TCU in the championship game would be a disaster for the BCS, but I don't get it. Ratings likely wouldn't suffer that much and while a BCS conference would be losing out on a lot of money this year, wouldn't it ultimately be good for the BCS to have a non-AQ make it to the championship game? It's an example they'll be able to point to as to how the system is fair to non-AQ schools.

Having a crappy Big East school make millions is far more damaging (in my eyes) to the system than TCU winning the NC

It's going to the Big East, not the school. They share bowl revenue and since they're only getting one bid, they're getting the bare minimum.

the team doesn't really hinge on what leshoure does, imo. jason ford is a more than capable feature back and bud golden will be the backup. they'll be fine there.

i just hope liuget and tez come back. and it will be interesting to see if o'toole can come in and challenge scheelhaase.

The thought is that if the precedent is set where a non-AQ undefeated gets in over an AQ 1 loss team that the BCS conferences may decide to change the system. I don't think this year would cause that though...but if it happened multiple times, the big schools would not be happy. It probably comes down to who you think has a better chance of changing the system...the outsiders (small conferences, Congress, the public) or the insiders (mostly the BCS university presidents).

I just can't see those in the BCS changing the system, particularly with TCU joining the Big East in a couple of years. The odds of it happening multiple times, especially since it likely requires a late or end of season loss by a BCS team to loss a spot in the championship game and not just any loss, are quite low.

Expansion will be the reason for any change from within, not the occasional threat from a single non-AQ.

And Illinois can have the Texas Bowl. Airfare from Chicago to Houston is ridiculous.

Liuget coming back is a must. I'm not really a huge Martez fan but obviously I'd like him to come back too.

The OOC schedule is a pretty easy one. Hopefully a New Years Day bowl game is in the cards for next year.

What I thought was ridiculous was Herbstreit yesterday said he thought (not necessarily he believed it was right) that if Oregon lost, TCU would get in but if Auburn lost, that they would probably stay above TCU. I get that Oregon would be losing to a weaker opponent, though that would be on the road rather than a neutral site, but I think if you'd keep one ahead of TCU ahead with a loss, you have to keep both. If you're going to drop one below TCU with a loss, you have to drop both behind TCU.

The difference is the Auburn will likely be #1 in the computers even with a loss. Oregon won't. Either one of them with a loss will have some people drop them below TCU and some of them keeping them above. In Oregon's case, that wouldn't be enough as TCU's computer rankings would be stronger. In Auburn's case, that might be enough to keep them in that spot.

cbssports.com[/url]"]While Pitt and Cincinnati are currently playing in the snow, it seems that someone got a bit too carried away playing with the snow. The Cincinnati mascot was detained by police and ejected from the stadium on Saturday, and had to be replaced. Why?

Because he was throwing snowballs into the crowd, and when police asked him to stop, he didn't. Something that then causes this to happen.

If the SEC intended this bylaw to be interpreted this way, then they intended players and players' families to be able to ask for money and other benefits from their schools. That's simply too stupid and greasy, even for the SEC.

I'm not sure the act of asking for benefit and having that request denied by the school was even contemplated when that SEC bylaw was written. .

LOL, the SEC never even considered that one of their member schools wouldn't pay when asked to.

And it's not like Auburn and Oregon are Oklahoma and Ohio State. They're BCS schools, but they aren't huge names.

Cam Newton will perhaps help to deliver additional TV ratings, but I don't know there's a great difference between Oregon and the intrigue of a non-AQ competing for the national championship.
