1. Ryan vs. Flacco.

Great Thursday game this week, the 6-2 Falcons and the 6-2 Ravens in Atlanta. The way the NFL schedule works -- assuming the format doesn't change in the new collective bargaining agreement -- Flacco and Ryan, should they stay on their same teams for the next decade, would meet in years three (this year), seven and 11. How odd, and sad, would it be if these good, young quarterbacks faced each other only three non-Super Bowl times?

Why is this sad? Why is sad even on the list of words you would consider using in that sentence? There are 16 teams in each conference, you can't play them all every other year. Who gives a crap that Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco may only play each other 3 times in 11 years? Do you know how many times Peyton Manning and McNabb have played each other? 3 times. Who cares?

You know....pointing out how much you don't care about something, without being prompted, shows that you at least care enough to point out that you don't care.

I was prompted. He wrote the piece that prompted my response.

I care that the pre-eminent writer about football in this country constantly says such stupid things.

When was the last time a team and their coach had such mutual hatred for each other?

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/jensen/2881654,CST-SPT-sean10.article

Six Vikings players said that they want Childress fired but that they refuse to give up on their teammates.

''We've got too many good football players, and we won't lay down like Dallas,'' one player said.

''As much as I hate Childress,'' another player said, ''I will keep playing.''

During an interview with the (St. Paul) Pioneer Press on Monday, Childress was asked if he cares whether his players like him.

''I always say it's like being a parent,'' Childress said. ''If being a friend is a byproduct of that, great. I just want to make sure I do the right thing with players.''

The Vikings have strong leaders in the locker room and among the assistant coaches, most prominently defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Interviewed several times for head-coaching vacancies, Frazier is respected because he played in the NFL -- for the Bears from 1981 to '85 -- and because he is always calm and collected.

''Guys trust him,'' one player said. ''He's going to treat you a certain way. He doesn't single people out.''

Hey ELCABALLO, are we still doing the power rankings?

A couple people actually send me them already. But yes we can!

PM me your power rankings 1-10 by Saturday Afternoon and I will post them Saturday Night.

Sean Jensen was the best Vikings beat writer around when he was in the twin cities.

Either in-season or after the season I want to see Frazier made head coach. The rest of the staff is really solid. Bevell and Childress are the only two that should go. Maybe make Bienemy offensive coordinator.

Henne's been benched for Pennington.

that's pretty counter-intuitive

Pennington's always going to be a stop-gap at best, you have to realize that's Henne's floor

Henne sucks

Jimmy Claussen will start at QB for the Panthers, backed by Tony Pike, with Armanti Edwards as the emergency 3rd QB. All three are rookies; this is the first time that a team has had rookies for all three active QB positions since these records started being kept in 1991. And for more fun, both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are expected to miss the game with injuries. Tip: If you're participating in a pick'em contest where you have to choose a team to score the fewest points as a tie-breaker, choose the Panthers.

In all four of my fantasy leagues, I've been targeting the defense that plays the Panthers each week for a while now. That won't change with these injuries.

Thankfully, Harris went to an AFC team that I have no ill feelings towards. Hopefully he helps us out next Thursday night when they play the Bears.

Any guesses as to who those six players were that said that stuff about Chilly? I'd guess Allen, Shiancoe, Harvin, and Hutchinson for sure. Maybe Longwell too since he was the one that leaked the Favre story a few weeks ago.

So basically the high profile guys? No way. Shank was the one guy who came out and said he had his back before the game last week. Allen and Hutch aren't the kind of guys who want to create more drama for no reason. Zygi met with the high profile veterans last week so they've all made their opinions known to the guy who matters.

Guys like Tyrell Johnson (starter last year, healthy scratch most of this year), Jimmy Kennedy (veteran who was deactivated two games for attitude stuff, been a malcontent) and others further down the roster who have reasons to be pissed would be much more likely.

Veteran stars are the ones who have to get asked about these reports non-stop now. They aren't going to anonymously leak opinions so they get asked about it and it causes more distraction on one of their last shots. I think if those kind of guys are leaking anything anonymously, it's when they let out stories of factual things that happened.

A blog that has almost no credibility reports that Jerry Jones has met with Nick Saban about the Cowboys job.

I'm just going to go ahead and say it, if this happens we must unban Redflash so we can get his uncensored reaction.

When does Jerry interview Bobby Petrino?
