He was by far my favorite Cub. I grew up watching him in the '80s and '90s...but I just didn't want him managing the Cubs. So I'll be wishing him good luck wherever he goes, but I'm kind of glad the headache is no longer there as to when he will be the manager.

He doesn't come off as a petulant, whiny bitch at all

Because he prefers to seek a major league job over returning to the minors? It's not like he turned down a job on Quade's staff.

Where are the teams clamoring for him to join their ML bench?

Yes, he is such an jerk. I can't believe he wants to be a major league manager and is trying to achieve that goal. Grrr! I'm going to go do some meth to take the edge off of my anger.

Well at 4 years coaching experience, I'm pretty sure he's the longest tenured coach without an MLB manager gig in the whole organization, if not all of baseball.

I think it stinks. I think the whole manager/coaching staff stinks.

Quade will be a loser and set the program back three years.

When will this idiot Hendry get fired?

Just as weird as calling it "the program". Hope Quade doesn't commit any recruiting violations.

I love that movie. Where's Omar Epps these days?

EDIT: Completely forgot he's on HOUSE.

Why does this make people happy? I realize everybody here was scared shitless about him becoming the manager... but he didn't become the manager. What's there to be happy about exactly? Not that anyone should be especially outraged, I just don't understand why anyone would be happy about this.

So, when Sandberg doesn't get a major league gig, and I don't think he will, is he going to go work in the minors for some team or just sit around the house waiting for that job as someone's major league manager?

I like Sandberg and he was my favorite player, but Quade was more qualified and experienced for the job. How many managers do you know that got a major league job with only four years minor league managing experience? I'm sure there are some, but I bet most have far more experience.

Doesn't mean he wouldn't have been a good fit as the bench coach. With the Cubs in transition and bringing up a lot of these young players that Sandberg has coached and been around the last four years would have been very beneficial to the Cubs and these players.

I don't blame him for trying to see if he can get on a Major League club. The Cubs asked him to get some experience in the minors -- which he did -- and he got an interview. The Cubs never stipulated how much time he had to spend in the minors nor ever promised him a job. Perhaps staying in the minors another 3 or 4 years would have given Sandberg a better chance to be the Cubs manager.

Who really knows why the organization didn't give him the helm. He would have commanded more money than Quade so that could have been a factor (however, he probably would bring more revenue to the organization than Quade). Maybe they felt he still didn't have enough experience and that the Cubs need a winner now. After 102 plus years of no WS title, perhaps they feel they could not take a risk on an experiment.

Whatever the reason, Sandberg was an asset to the Cubs and we should all wish him well. I have no heartburn with the way this turned out.

With Sandberg as Quade's bench coach, every time the Cubs went on a losing streak, there would be a loud clamor for Sandberg to replace him. I don't blame Quade for not going with Sandberg. I wouldn't want that issue to hound me either.

Listach also has been around these players. Listach worked in the system for quite awhile too. Based on experience as minor league manager and coaching, Listach is more qualified than Sandberg.

While Sandberg has the name and illustrious playing career, he's still relatively inexperienced in coaching/managing.

Because I think he is a liability to the organization serving as a coach.
