  1. That is why I quit buying Cubs Calendars! Add Zambrano and probably Garza....
  2. Quade sucks. Fire him now!
  3. Mike Quade is the worst Cubs manager I have seen since 1955, in my first Cubs- Cards game at Wrigley. He sucks!
  4. Direct quote of Quade: Quade said he's already had some healthy disagreements with Hendry, Bush and others, and that's OK. "I'm not of the mentality that I have to win," Quade said. "I'm not an ego guy. I want to do the right thing." 'Nuff said. We'll about this Quade guy; so far, I am not impressed.
  5. I don't believe Dusty Baker. I don't believe that happened.
  6. Did he retire, leave, or what? I saw and heard about the posting for the P.A. announcer job at Wrigley (Pat and Keith talked about it on WGN today). Anyone know what the deal is?
  7. Mrs. Zip and I were in Mesa for an ST game and we met Ronnie Santo on his way up to the "booth" at HoHoKam. He said he was glad to meet us; but, did we have a napkin for his hotdog, as he had forgotten his. Yes, we did have several extras...and, he was very gracious in welcoming us Texans to Arizona and to Cubs baseball. We thanked him and smiled as we listened to the radio bantor between him and Pat Hughes during the game. Just a average Joe.
  8. You are taking 16 home games away from everybody. You are taking numerous "high value games" away from many teams. Boston/NYY go from playing 18 games to 6, Tampa hosts the Yankees 3 times instead of 9. This is all just incredibly unrealistic and impossible to make work. You can't force San Fran to play Washington as often as they play the Dodgers. Baseball is a business built on getting butts in seats for 6 months. This plan would kill the business model. Well, as much as I admire your thoughts and postings, jersey (and, your great knowledge), I think Buck Showalter's plan for realignment makes more sense than anything I have read or heard. See it at: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4418385 This is basically what these people are saying. And, your assertion that butts won't fill the seats unless the Red Sox and Yanks play 18 times is just wrong, I think. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4418385
  9. Joe Moron is gone! Hallelujah! Hersheiser and Valentine....an upgrade? Maybe, Oral....but, not Valentine.
  10. I met Ronnie Santo several times over the 20 straight years I went to Spring Training. He was always nice and gracious to us fans. I miss him already!
  11. Sooner or later they will modify the infield stands and get the room they need. There is too much money to be made to stop with tonight. Why did the game anger you so? If you would bother to read the thread, you'll see that Northwestern personnel approached the Cubs about the game in the days immediately following the Winter Classic. Throwing Randy Bush into this makes you look like a buffoon. O.K....so, I am a "buffoon" to you. So what? Crane Kenney? There is the buffoon. I don't know about J.R. You seem more adedpt at throwing the buffoon lingo than actually understanding it.
  12. You want to make an annual event of the "one-way" game at Wrigley? Well....have at it. What was this farce, anyway? Crane Kenney or Randy Bush or who was it? Whomever, it was bad.
  13. Chicagoland doesn't need (or want) another JerryWorld...as you know. Stop making fun of me...it is not good for the moderator "image." \:D/
  14. Heh-heh-heh.... Hey, sully.... Heck, I don't know what I think, sometimes, about the Cubs. I love 'em, I know that. But, man, this carp with Ricketts, Hendry, and this new marketing guy just turns me off. And, this Allstate Wrigley "Classic" is just another example of that carp. What a bunch of BS! I'll calm down, now, that I have it off my chest.
  15. My opinion, based solely on TV (DVR recording viewed just now): I think the entire "experience" sucked. Bob Davies spent as much time apologizing for Wrigley, Allstate, Chicago, Big Ten, the two schools, and ESPN that I felt like throwing the remote at the TV screen. What a crappy game! And, the football teams weren't much better. And, Wrigley..... Good gawd....... What a dump! It reminds me of old Texas Stadium, which had become a dump, also. Memories of my first Cubs-Cardinals game in 1955 at Wrigley have clouded my mind. Time to go somewhere else....
  16. They said they couldn't and quite obviously they cannot since the game is tomorrow. You folks were right and I was wrong. The Cubs.com site stated the following: "Since the Bears played, additional seats have been added at Wrigley along the left-field line, which made the north-south configuration unworkable for the Illinois-Northwestern game." I just wanted to hear it from the horse's mouth, that's all.
  17. They should (and still could if they wanted to) used the Bears configuration.
  18. Call me cynical...or, please don't...but, marketing is everything. With this layout of the football field, the Toyota sign is near midfield on the visitors' side. The former "Rooftop Pirates" are in the background of every other field goal and PAT; and the first base side grandstands are home team. That's great! It is also "marketing." Even though I will be watching my Longhorns (hopefully and finally) win a ballgame at the same time, I am recording the NU-Illinois game to watch later. VineLine had a beautiful centerfold of the hockey game at Wrigley; hopefully, this will happen with the college football game. I cannot assume this will happen, however, as VineLine has been contracted out and who knows what idiots from Cincy will do with Cubs stuff.
  19. So, the Bears played on a non-regulation field? I used to sit in Section 131; and, the seats were in the end zone. Now, those would be about the 25 yard line.
  20. Because the stadium has changed since that time and it would not fit. The visitors dugout has not moved; and, the new seats behind home plate and the dugout seats haven't changed the dimensions of the field that much. I was thinking it was some sort of marketing reason. Otherwise, it must be arbitrary. I was wondering if anyone actualy knew the real reason. Look at the NU site layout of Wrigley. A football field would work either way.
  21. In don't understand why they put the field from third baseline to right field rather than the other way like the Bears played.
  22. I think it stinks. I think the whole manager/coaching staff stinks. Quade will be a loser and set the program back three years. When will this idiot Hendry get fired?
  23. In my humble opinion, Mike Quade is a crappy choice for manager of a crappy team. So what?
  24. This season was not what I would call a fun time. Since 1955, I have witnessed many losing seasons; however, many of those seasons had teams that were still fun to watch. There merely were better team out there which had better won-loss records than the Cubs. But, this season was not a season in which the team was fun to watch for me. Aside from a players, like the center fielder, there were few bright spots. The left fielder was a total pain to watch, for example. Piniellla was a pain to watch as he dissolved before our eyes. This Quade guy is not the guy, either. Forget about it! I don't know that I am looking forward to next year or not. At least, not yet.
