Don't agree with his comment on Melo at all. You have to do basically any non-Rose, non-Noah deal (and you have to at least consider some Melo packages that include Noah, IMO) for him. I'm pretty convinced that Thibs could turn someone of Melo's athleticism into a passable defender, not as good as Deng, but good enough. Rose's FG attempts do need to come down a bit anyway. They'd be a more balanced version of Miami with one of the best glue/energy guys at C and a semi-deep bench instead of the pu pu platter that Miami has to trot out there.

I don't think there is any way I trade Noah for 'Melo and I don't really want to trade half the team for a guy who won't sign. Especially because I don't think we are a championship team even with him. I do think Rose would defer to Anthony because I think we wants to win first and foremost and he seems like a guy who would put aside his ego to do so.

I don't know. I don't have much faith in Carmelo playing defense myself. While the team would score points I don't really want to hurt the defensive chemistry we have right now and I think trading Deng could hurt that big time. Maybe I'm overvaluing chemistry and what not on the basketball court but I don't know.

I would be more willing to trade a bunch of people for him if he was willing to sign an extension though. I'm just not sold on doing it for a rent a player. If it was a weaker Eastern Conference, like 5 years ago or so I do it but not when the top half of the conference is so good.

I can't imagine Melo turning down an extension to play with Rose, Noah, and Boozer. Of course I can't imagine how we'd get him without giving up at least Noah in the first place.

Thibs can turn anyone into a decent defender (except Boozer maybe). We're #1 in defensive efficiency with guys that were considered black holes on defense playing big minutes (Rose and Boozer). Deng is a phenomenal defender--few can guard a guy like Kobe one night and Dirk another night and do a good job of it--but Melo is an extraordinary scorer that the Bulls would kill for.

I do consider the possibility that the Bulls could be better than losing a lot of talent (esp. Noah) for Melo by just getting a serviceable 2 guard that can guard and shoot (e.g. Mayo) for far cheaper. But standing pat? No, no way.

i'll be happy with oj mayo or jr smith

it's funny, when the lebron-to-chicago hype was at it's peak and then there were rumblings of wade, i remember posting something like "man, it's gonna suck when we end up with carlos boozer and joe johnson"

now i look at that and think how amazing it would be if we got both of those guys. we'd probably be the number 1 seed in the east right now and would be a legit title contender for the foreseeable future.

instead, we wind up with ronnie brewer and keith bogans.

still though, you gotta figure it's only a matter of time before we get a legit SG. it might not even be this year, but it doesn't have to be. we're looking very good for the next several years with rose/noah still so young and boozer still with good years left in him.

it's amazing how much that draft lottery turned this franchise around.

1.7%. where we would be right now if we didn't get that?

i can't help but be paranoid about the lottery and what franchises get once in a lifetime players.

once in a lifetime talent going to a franchise thats kind of meandering and has the potential and has been one of the most if not most profitable nba franchise? if im stern i sure do think about nudging them in the right direction.

And it's not like the NBA doesn't have evidence that some events could have been predetermined (aka the whole Tim Donaghy fiasco). It wouldn't surprise me if lotteries like the 85 or 08 lottery were fixed. I'm not saying they were but it wouldn't surprise me at all with this league.

If one was fixed it had to be the '03 one. LeBron just happens to stay home, revitalize a franchise and gets to learn to play in the NBA at home.

Cleveland had a 1 in 4 shot at LeBron, it's not like they came from nowhere.

it was actually 22.5% and it was the first time in 13 years that the team with the worst record won the lottery. And it just so happened to coincide with a generational talent hooking up with his home-state team that was coincidentally dying and on its last legs.

Rose ending up in Chicago is more believable to me because it's not like he was even the 100% consensus No. 1 like LeBron.

I'm all for conspiracy theories, I'm just not sure I see the LeBron one. What about Boston in the Oden/Durant year? You'd think they'd have won one of the top 2 picks instead of Seattle, a franchise that was known to be on the verge of moving.

Course, it worked out pretty well for them thanks largely to Kevin McHale, but still.

OJ Mayo would be a nice fit especially if you can get him cheap.

And if Bogans goes the other way, so there's no temptation at all to play him.

Yeah agreed, I thought Rose was pretty much the top guy on everyone's boards though.

By draft day, Rose was most people's choice for #1 (though not unanimous) but on the day of the lottery, I wouldn't be surprised if more people thought Beasley was the better choice.

Being a Big XII guy, I immediately thought Beasley when we won the lottery. I was a little disappointed at all the Rose talk at first, but the more I looked into the situation the more I was on board with the decision to go with Derrick. Now it's hard to imagine thinking of taking anyone but him with that pick.

The Beas had as much an impact in college and KD and Blake. But, man he has bombed in the pros compared to the hype.

remember last season when cavs fans were saying that the cavs without lebron were about as good as the bulls?

wrong again.

I guess it shows you exactly how good LBJ was to that team. He probably has a bigger impact when surrounded by role players, but he still looks damn good with 2 other all-stars on his team.

On a side note, anyone know if Boozer is going to play tonight?

No doubt, as does the Heat losing by 30 the night after losing LeBron. He's a spectacular player and a talent which is hard to measure. He, Dwight and Kobe are such gamechangers its ridiculously hard to figure out how good the rest of their teammates are in a vaccuum.

All I know is this year has proven that LeBron is light years ahead of Wade and Bosh, its incredible. And if LeBron gets the Peyton Manning treatment (and he has been getting it already, as amusing as it is) it will make the whole situation all the more absurd and insane.
