Kevin Harlan was doing our game tonight. He does sort of emulate Marv.

Ugly game, but a good win nonetheless.

yea kevin harlan. i thought we had marv the entire game. i can't tell the difference between those 2 guys at all. the only time i can tell is when marv does one of his catch phrases on nig plays

Yeah Rose is really struggling with his shot. He's still being effective, but his scoring efficiency feels like its entering into Monta Ellis range.

You guys don't actually believe that TS% is some universal law hokum do you? If Rose doesn't shoot a lot this team has no chance at all to win.

The idea that this team could be competitive without Rose taking a lot of shots while Noah and Boozer are out is utterly laughable.

No doubt. I just wish he made more than 33% of them. He has to take a lot of shots but taking 28 to get 26 points isn't ideal, despite the fact he's still helping the team to a degree.

who complained about the amount of shots he's taking?

and let's be honest, going 9-28 isn't helping the team win. he helped in other ways, but his shooting didn't contribute to the win tonight.

i'm not bashing rose at all, i'm just pointing out that i'm concerned with his efficiency. mostly because of the fact that it's taken such a big tumble from where it was his first 2 seasons

i know a huge part of that is that he's taking so many more 3's now, but that doesn't explain the entire difference.

i think the main problem is he tried too hard and tries to do too much sometimes, because he knows he's the man and everything goes through him.

since noah's gone down it's become really apparent. his efficiency has been super bad since noah went out.

again, not complaining, just concerned. i was just hoping it wouldn't dip below 45%

Next, the Bulls get a Cavs team that has lost 24 of 25.

They should win it even if Rose, Boozer and Noah all can't go.

Good win. All the Laker fans were real upset they lost to the Mavs yesterday and then the Bulls beat them today. :) Though I gotta ask, what Brewer was doing not finishing the layup/dunk at the end there?
Posted

I love that we won this but it sure makes me seem like an ungrateful and bad fan (screaming at my TV throughout both Bobcats games like a mad man) when we take games like these down but can't manage to beat some of the very teams. Its like, they are so tantalizingly close to being an excellent team, but the injuries and some shooting inconsistencies really drag em down. A wins a win, and they are still gobbling up wins and staying high up in the standings.

We're just gonna have to suffer through this until early March and hope everyone is fit and ready to go for the playoffs.

He's going to have to be Iversonian for us to win without Boozer and Noah and what amounts to 2 on 5 on offense with Gibson, Thomas, and Bogans in the lineup. 9/28 looks bad but there's no way anyone else on the floor besides Deng can even get a look if Rose doesn't create for them, especially against a smart, veteran defensive team like Dallas that knows how to key in on guys.

Although I'd explore Gibson in the post a little more...it's kind of weird that he settles for those jumpers when he was doing decent work on the block in the first month or so when Boozer was out. I noticed Watson was playing more with Rose in the 4th quarter last night which is something we should look at for scoring.

The defense is sick though.

I agree, Rose needs to put up a ton of shots for the Bulls to win simply because without Boozer and Noah, there's really only one other guy that can make his own offense and that's Deng, and he is off many nights. He doesn't need to shot 28 every night, but 20 shots shouldnt be a big deal.

The problem for me is that he's missing shots that he was making with regularity last year. The 3 pointers are actually not the issue at all. He's making enough of his 3 point attempts that its helping his efficiency. Last year Rose had the highest shooting % from midrange of any point guard in the NBA. He was lethal with his mid range shot. He'd have games where he'd hit that shot 6-7 times in a row, just lethal. Now its just not there with any consistency. He'll hit 1-2 in a row, and then miss the next 3. And that's causing teams to back off his mid range and collapsing on him in the pain, making his efficiency down low lower as well. He isn't finishing those "giant killers" all that much.

All and all though the difference between .489 (last year) and .449 (this year), if he took the same number of shots is 56 more made FGs, which is like .7 made FGs per game. I guess not a ton. The issue is that he's projected to take 230 more shots than last year.

I just want to see him get in a rhythm again like he was for a big part of last year. He's better than a 45% shooter.

Probably being challenged way more because there's no one else to worry about. Harder shots to make because they aren't open shots.

The fact that the team is still winning 2 out of every 3 games without Noah/Boozer gives ne great confidence that a full strength team could make a deep run in the playoffs

I really don't get Keith Bogans, it seems he starts both halves, but is never seen again. Like there is some sort of obligation for him to be a starter.

some bulls stuff from bill simmons chat today. i know it's popular on the internet to hate on simmons and he's a big boston homer, but he knows basketball

Sam (Newton, MA)

Don't you think that Rondo should start instead of Rose in the All-Star game because he isn't going to take any shots and the players will have more fun playing with him?

Bill Simmons

Rose deserves to start, I'm a Celtics homer and even I can't deny that. Here's what will be interesting though: Rose and Rondo don't like each other, and Rondo's coach will be coaching this Eastern team... so if your Doc Rivers, and it's crunch-time, who do you play? Sit Rose and risk pissing him off to new heights every time you play him. Sit Rondo and your PG is secretly bitter at you for the rest of the year. Tough scenario. Forgot to include that in yesterday's column.

John Paxson (Chicago)

Hey Picasso can you get the bulls a SG to put us over the top?

Bill Simmons

I am terrified of the Bulls getting OJ Mayo. That's the undervalued former high lottery pick who's sitting out there waiting to get stolen away by a good team. Last year, it was Ray Felton and nobody ended up stealing him until the summer. This year it's Mayo.

Bowgren (Chicago)

Why won't Denver just make a deal with Chicago? Melo would sign there, they could get Gibson, Korver, and that Charlotte futures pick. Is that not a good deal at this point?

Bill Simmons

This is heresy... but I don't know if that's a great deal for Chicago. The Rose/Melo alpha dog dynamic worries me and Deng has been quietly having a huge year for them (he's playing like 40 MPG), he doesn't need the ball and he's one of their best defenders. I also wouldn't give up Gibson. And that Charlotte pick could be a really good one. I like the Bulls' nucleus, I think there are easier ways for them to add a big chess piece without blowing it up for Carmelo.

Bill Simmons

If I'm Chicago, I am not thinking about any move right now that betrays their identity: Which is that it's Derrick Rose's team. Every move they make should be to make his supporting cast better. They don't need Carmelo, as weird as that sounds.

Sea Bass (Adnan's Desk)

Rose vs Rondo: Do they really hate each other? I have never head this besides from you.

Bill Simmons

Watch the next Celts-Bulls game. There is no icier matchup. I don't think they hate each other for any real reason - it just started in the 2009 playoffs and carried over from there. Both competitive, same conference, rivals, then the Team USA thing... and Coach K picked Rose.

I usually like Simmons, but I disagree with everything he says here. I don't think Denver is giving up Melo for just Korver, Gibson and the pick (does that even work out financially with the cap?). This year's draft is horrible. Rose doesn't have a problem sharing the stage from what I have seen. That isn't his personality. He will be the man, but he doesn't have to be the man all the time. Why can't you give up your second string power forward for a top five player? The Bulls need another star if they want to win a championship. This is Rose's team, but nonetheless a team that isn't making it out of the conference championship at best any time soon.

Best player ever at catching tip-offs? Of course, fouls often have a lot to do with it

The Rose mention in Simmons's NBA column about wanting to destroy the Heat after Wade blew him off was pretty awesome.
