rose off to another 1-7 shooting start. i'm concerned. he's getting into iverson territory

Monta Ellis is a better comparison. Everyone on the RealGM bulls forum was mocking him last year (ellis) for his hollow scoring average because he was a chucker and shot a low percentage. Well this year Rose has scored and shot slightly less, but has a slightly lower shooting percentage than Ellis. Rose does shoot better from 3 and gets to the line more, but still.

The theme seems to be slow starts. I normally don't bother watching the 1st quarters of games for whatever reason, and when I turn on the tv and load up the box score, Rose is seemingly always a 1-7 or 2-9. And then at the end of the game its something more respectable like 8-20.

Another key difference is that Derrick Rose is a lot better at basketball than Ellis.

Which would be a good point if I said that Derrick Rose and Monta Ellis are the same exact basketball player in all ways instead of just suggesting that their scoring efficiency is similar. Or at least last year's Ellis vs. this year's Rose. This year Monta has a .549 TS% and Rose .538. Rose has a higher offensive rating (110 to 108) and offensive win shares (3.7 to 3.1) because he, you know, does more offensively than scoring.

On pace for 57-25 despite only playing with our 3 best players at the same time for 9 games.

The Bulls would have to finish the season at 18-19 or worse to avoid winning 50 games. They would have to go 29-8 to win 60 this year.

I really don't put much stock in any impressive looking numbers coming from Golden State. They play at a high pace, exert zero energy playing D or rebounding, and have a long track record of guys putting up nice looking stats without actually winning anything.

TS% and all that crap has its place but its usefulness doesn't extend very well to gimmick teams.

Kurt Thomas just abusing the Bucks.

Yeah, don't know what got into him.

This will probably sound dumb, but last year with Milwaukee he would have these "spurts" where he would play above his head. Must be doing it here.

He's actually been pretty solid for us given the circumstances.

The Bulls are pretty good. I'm concerned about the upcoming west coast road trip. Even though the teams we are facing aren't the best and this is the best Bulls team in about 12 years I still get nervous when the Bulls are starting games past 9 our time.

Dorell Wright is just the latest example of borderline D-leaguer going to Golden State and putting up stats because they play gimmicky basketball.

Valid point but Nelson isn't coaching there anymore and their pace has slowed down a bit this year.

Explanation maybe for Rose's shooting troubles lately.

Derrick Rose says in locker room his back is killing him. Bulls have three days off before playing Orlando on Fri.

Probably because he's had to do everything by himself for most of the season. I'm sure my back would be hurting if I had to do as much as he's done this year.

Yup these 3 days off are very needed. This schedule has been a bitch regarding days off and such.

Well, the soft underbelly of the schedule is over. Just like the first 20 games were insane, the next 20 games are going to be a challenge for the Bulls. Two games each against Utah, New Orleans, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta and Charlotte (who are terrible but 2-0 against the Bulls), along with games against San Antonio, Portland, and the LA Clippers (again, not good, just beat the Bulls in Chicago). Another stretch where 10-10 would be perfectly reasonable (although probably take them out of what contention there is for the #1 seed).

Also, the Bulls are now 10-0 within the (admittedly terrible) Central division. Since divisional realignment in 2004, no team has swept its division (Boston 2008-09 went 15-1). After the home game against Indiana this week, the remaining 5 games are on the road (2 v Mil, 1 v Ind, 1 v Det, 1 v Cle).

EDIT: Also, the Bulls have a chance yet to defeat every team in the NBA (thank you, 13-5 record vs the West). Here are the teams they haven't beat yet: San Antonio, Utah, New Orleans, LA Clippers, Orlando, Atlanta, New York and Charlotte. Not going to be easy and/or likely, but possible.

After the next 2 games against Orlando and Indiana, 11 of the next 14 are on the road. Gonna be tough. I hope the team steps up the intensity and plays like the early part of the season.

I am glad the games are getting harder though. It's been almost a no-win for me to watch the Bulls lately. Either we easily outclass an inferior opponent we were supposed to beat, or we lose to that inferior opponent and that makes me upset. Don't get me wrong, as much as its "boring", I am greatly greatly enjoying it and remember even last year not being able to count on being good enough to beat a team on any given night. I'll take boring any day.

Another note about the Bulls schedule: After 20 games, Sagarin rated the Bulls schedule as #1 in the NBA. After 45 games, it's now #30. That's how crazy weak it's been the past 25 games. The Bulls losses during that stretch? Twice to Charlotte, once to Philly, once to New York, once to the Clippers, and once to New Jersey. That's it.

we're predestined to lose that final game against the Nets, costing us a better seed
