Yeah I'm trying to figure that out also. In MSU's case it makes sense because they would have the tiebreaker over Iowa and Wisconsin while not playing OSU. Wisconsin needs to win out and have MSU lose twice unless it comes down to some 3-way tiebreaker that they win.

I think I have read somewhere that MSU would win any 3 way tiebreaker with any of the legit Big Ten contenders.

if it's about who goes to the Rose Bowl, the tiebreaker is always "who hasn't been for the longest time?"

No that's been gone for quite some time I believe.

you are right, I just looked it up, it would be the highest ranked team in the BCS rankings that goes. Wherever I read that MSU would win a 3 way tie must have written that using the old havent been there the longest method.

Apparently someone said Pinkel said Aldon Smith would play this weekend but I haven't seen anything on it yet.

College Football Nation mentions it in their write-up.

Notre Dame's top 3 receivers may all be out this weekend (Floyd is a game-time decision and Rudolph and Riddick already are). Armando Allen, who's #4, is banged up too. I'm a little worried about this. Crist has struggled enough with accuracy throwing to those 4 guys, let alone the guys he'll have to throw to this week.

Should I post MSU's schedules when they come out?

if you feel like it. i only posted it b/c it was discussed a week or so ago and someone asked about 7-4-1.

we can go back to talking about Rose Bowl tiebreakers from over a decade ago now.

Wow, Notre Dame's gonna lose a lot of games in 2012.

are missouri fans really whining about a lack of respect? they started the season unranked, beat NO ONE and are now almost ranked in the TOP TEN? omg worst travesty since the holocaust.

i'm kinda glad my team sucks so i don't turn into an obnoxious douche (at least for the purposes of college football discussions).

if Mizzou had a schedule like that, we wouldn't bother you guys so much about whining for respect.

I'm sure you wouldn't, many of those are schools that were good before, so they certainly will be good again.

And to reiterate, the point was that preseason reputation and name bias plays far too big a role in anchoring teams in the polls. I was making the point in week 3, and it just so happens now that Mizzou is a textbook example of it until they lose this weekend.

Easy, just playing around...have to admit they are rather impressive schedules for an independent team.

Don't worry. Tulsa hasn't played defense in at least the last 10 years.

I'm not sure I can overstate how happy those 2011 and 2012 schedules make me. Even the '11 one, which contains no team likely to be remarkable (presuming Luck leaves for the draft and USC starts feeling the hurt from scholarship reductions), is such a ginormous improvement over the schedule ND is in the midst of playing. Navy or Wake Forest is the worst team on it.

Joe Pa wants to eliminate facemasks from helmets to make the game safer.

Not sure that would work as the helmet will still do all the damage. Might as well and eliminate the entire helmet and not just the face mask.

I think people would be a lot more reluctant to lead with their head if their face wasn't protected as much as it is. In fact, pads in general just serve as instruments to inflict pain, not protect from it.

I agree it would help, but like you had mentioned in another thread CB's use there helmets like a missle. A helmet to someones unprotected face will do a ton of damage, unless we go to the old school leather helmets, which would be really cool regardless of anything.

But they are making contact with both the helmet and facemask area. They are one and the same.

The Pac-10 has decided on the North-South split for football divisions:

North: Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State

South: USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado

Stanford/Cal will play USC/UCLA every year. Those are the only cross divisional games that will be locked in.

There will be no divisions for basketball.

The biggest surprise is the championship game. The division winner with the best conference record will get to host the championship game.
