And just like that Forte is up to 4.2 ypc and on pace for about 1,000 yards. While I don't expect him to have another game like that the rest of the year, having a similar gameplan this week wouldn't hurt since we don't know exactly how sharp Cutler will be.

With the Bears looking at an opportunity to start 6-2 or 7-1 the pieces are in place to build a divisional lead. That said things change quickly in the NFL and nothing is guaranteed.

Just as long it doesn't come down to Week 17 at Lambeau. I'm pretty sure there's no way we win that game if it's for the division.

but...they've done that before, heck they clinched the division against the Packers at Lambeau with Grossman at QB in 2005!

32nd in average and 30th in net. He's way below league average. He is near the league lead in punts inside the 20 but I'm not sure that proves anything more than we have a lot of drives stall out close enough where his puny leg can get inside the 20. He's 3rd overall in number of punts.

Seriously, he sucks. It shouldn't be difficult to find a league average punter and just get free field position. This is low hanging fruit.

get anthony santella!

I'm in a stats mood so here's one for ya...

Robbie Gould is 96/100 in his career on kicks under 40 yards. Pretty insane if you consider the city he kicks in and all the missed short FGs in the NFL lately.

In my opinion, now that he's shown he can hit from beyond 50 yards, he's pretty much solidifed himself as the 2nd best kicker in the NFL behind Kaeding. I think you could argue Gould is more clutch than Kaeding though.

Like someone here said Sunday, he's worth every penny.

this stat from tuesday morning quarterback made me laugh:

Stat of the Week No. 2: Considering sacks and interception return yardage, Chicago Bears quarterback Todd Collins dropped back 19 times for a net of four turnovers and minus-17 yards.

Another game like that is certainly possible, but the Bears have to show the commitment to the run even when they have a capable QB. The Bears still have games vs. the #32 run D (Buffalo), #26 run D (Detroit), and #24 run D (Philly) in yards per game. And that doesn't include 2 vs. GB (6th in most yards per carry allowed) and 1 vs. Washington who is tied for 7th in highest YPC.

Also FWIW, Seattle's run defense has been the best in the NFL outside of the Steelers. 73 ypg, 2.7 ypc. Conversely they have the 2nd worst pass D. The Bears are going to need Cutler to win this game.

Cutler also needs a little bit of confidence in his offensive line. They need lots of quick plays and to move the ball well early. None of this being on his back crap right out of the gates.

Interested to see what the OL looks like this week. Chris Williams is supposed to be ready to go. Not sure about Louis. Do they automatically get their jobs back? Does Omiyale move back to RT? Does Eddie Williams go back to the bench if Louis is 100%? The Bears have played 9 different OL men this year already.

Cutler said he never had suffered a concussion before. He felt dizziness and "general fogginess" after absorbing nine first-half sacks.

...

"I'm not sure exactly what hit it was," he said. "There were some moments in the second quarter where I probably wasn't completely aware of what was going on.''

It seems clear it wasn't the final hit that they showed, which makes sense to me based on what I saw.

Can Martz just please do quick drops and forget about 7 steppers, and most 5 steppers?

I feel like the issue has become Cutler not even believing a pass can be made in those situations, so he just curls up and puts his eyes down. And really, which QB is going to do any different?

There's still stuff we can run. Quick slants. Screen passes. If the running game works decently, play action would still be on the table.

I bet you didn't call this one....

Chris Williams, tabbed as the left tackle of the future when he was drafted in the first round in 2008, has been moved to left guard.

....

Nothing says the move is permanent, but it's the way the Bears are expected to line up Sunday with Frank Omiyale, signed as a free agent last year, remaining at left tackle where he has been the last three games. The odd man out in the change is Roberto Garza.

I don't think they have to take the 5 and 7 step drop plays completely off the table. Just don't start up with them until we have forced the defense to play honest.

The more I think about this, the more I like it. Williams has not been good at either tackle spot (though he didn't get much time at LT, he looked real bad at it in preseason). This might be a last ditch effort to get something out of that draft pick.

Are you upset with the move? I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a really bad sign. Omiyale is not good. None of the other tackles are good. If Williams cannot lock down a tackle spot the need for more heavy spending on the line skyrockets.

If he can play guard well, it fills a role...not as important a role as LT, but still...see if you can find a spot where he can excel. I guess I'd rather him be a success as guard than a total failure at LT.

Absolutely, but it's still disappointing and a bad sign.

Love the idea. Angelo said in his interview they want to get bigger on the OL and this definitely helps that.

Omiyale-C.Williams-Kreutz-E.Williams-J.Webb

I expect Garza, Louis, and Shaffer to be rotated in and out, but this looks like our new starting 5.

Safety Major Wright was running on a side field for the first time since suffering a hamstring strain against the Cowboys in Week 2

Obviously, this is preferred. But I'd almost sink or swim with Williams at LT. He's the only OL on the team drafted before the 4th round, other than Kreutz who was the 2nd pick of the 3rd almost 15 years ago. So, by default, he's the most talented OL on the team. If he can't play LT, the team is screwed either way. Even if he's a decent LG, you can probably find better in the draft or free agency.
