But if Todd Collins is playing

Surely that would only be a possibility at this point if Hanie got hurt and Cutler wasn't cleared to play this Sunday. If Cutler is back, it's time to part ways with Collins and bring back Lefevour if he's still available. He showed me a decent enough arm, mobility in the pocket and an ability to hit an open receiver in preseason. I think he'd be fine as a 3rd QB, and hope they never get to the point of needing a 3rd.

That or find someone else on the waiver wire that is mobile. Collins is just a trainwreck with this offense.

LeFevour is not available. He's the Bengals 3rd QB.

Off topic, but I think it'll be interesting if Carson Palmer continues to struggle. Do they bench him in favor of his little brother? That would be pretty funny.

should have grabbed bolger when he was available. i wonder if the ravens would accept hanie and a late rounder for him?

The Bears don't want a QB that fans will clamour for when Cutler has a bad game.

I had and currently have no interest in Bulger, just like Collins. I never understood the need for a veteran backup QB. They should have stuck with the young guys. Those old bums aren't going to lead this team anywhere.

Damn. Figures. He certainly played well enough to latch on with someone, even if it was practice squad. Not sure why the Bears felt like Collins was a fit with this offense. Late to camp, an offensive line that can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag and a QB that has no ability to avoid a pass rush and an arm that can't throw a ball without loft.

If we need to rely on him for anything more than scrub work at the end of a game, this team is in desperate trouble.

When does Rothlisberger come back? One of Dixon, Leftwich or Batch will probably be released. Leftwich was arleady released until Dixon got hurt early in the season, and they picked him back up. I might be game for Dixon or Leftwich as a back up.

Ben is back this week. But I'm guessing someone will take one of those QB's from waivers. Too many teams with bad QB's out there.

EDIT: Or what Raw said.

Ben is back this week. Dixon was put on IR so none of them will be cut.

He's back right now. And Dixon is on the IR. They have 3 with Ben.

Darn it. With Cutler's situation and this line, I think a dependable, mobile QB with some pro experience needs to be brought in. Collins needs to go. Period.

I don't think anyone needs to be brought in. Hanie is perfectly fine as a backup, who has shown his ability to not be Todd Collins. The only QB mobile enough for this OL is Vick, and Collins isn't going anywhere with that guaranteed money he will be kept as the #3. Cutler finally missed 1 game in his career, I would be fine if they didn't even have Collins active and used that spot for either Grant/Wootton. The Giants game has freaked everyone out.

And like I said before, LeFevour should have just been the #3 all along.

It was the Cowboys game as well as Giants game. He took a ton of shots. But I agree with the rest of it.

Or we can just go with Hanie. We had to have kept him on the roster for the last 3 seasons for a reason. I don't see the need to freak out for a veteran QB to avoid playing Hanie without at least giving him at least 1 shot.

Well Jay and Caleb have both been injured enough to miss games already this season, and we've had a game where we needed our 3rd QB. Seems like a 3rd QB is probably the smart idea.

Yeah fine. It just doesn't have to be a QB that's brought in to play over Hanie.

According to multiple NFL sources, Collins will be be demoted after he threw four interceptions and finished with a 6.2 passer rating.

Hanie will be the No 2. quarterback when the Bears return to the practice field Wednesday to prepare for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, according to the sources.

There's a decent chance Detroit is better than Minnesota this year (coming into this week, Detroit had a higher DVOA than Minnesota).

Vikings/Lions aside, you really think that's worth something at this point?

And coming into this week the Chiefs had the 2nd highest DVOA in the league. The Bears at 27 would be heavy underdogs against he Seahawks and the only team they rank ahead of on their remaining schedule is the Bills. Come on.

The Seahawks are an odd case, basically different teams on the road and at home. The Chiefs may actually be good. The Bears had such a terrible rating after the Giants game, which I expect to improve slightly, and it's still to be determined how good the team really is. What I was trying to get across is there really aren't any gimme wins (except maybe Buffalo), and I'm not sure the Vikings any better than Detroit, certainly not so much that a game in Detroit is less winnable than a home game against a team like Minnesota.

It seems Seattle is smoke and mirrors and needs great special teams play to win against a decent opponent.

Watch Brad Maynard blow it with his girly punting. We really need to find someone else after this season. I'm so tired of watching him punt 38 yard line drives.

Again, he's here for his punting inside the 20. He's been one of the best in the league for about 4-5 years at getting punts inside the 20. Maynard has been a very good fit for a team that has needed to win the field position battle to win games.

That being said, I'd definitely bring someone in to challenge him next year.

According to DYAR, Collins' game Sunday was worse than Cutler's game the previous Sunday. Two of the 30 worst passing performances of all time.

32nd in average and 30th in net. He's way below league average. He is near the league lead in punts inside the 20 but I'm not sure that proves anything more than we have a lot of drives stall out close enough where his puny leg can get inside the 20. He's 3rd overall in number of punts.

Seriously, he sucks. It shouldn't be difficult to find a league average punter and just get free field position. This is low hanging fruit.
