We lost a close one against the Packers last year, but I don't know how you guys felt but I remember having the feeling that the game wasn't really as close as the score indicated. Maybe it was just because we were in the middle of an awful stretch so I didn't think we'd win no matter what.

The year before, we took on a 6-9 Packers team rifled with injures, played a horrible 1st half, trailed almost the entire game before tying it late, and then having to block a ~35 yard kick that would have won the game for the Packers before winning in OT.

In 07 we demolished the crap out of the Packers winning 35-7, aided by a defensive score, a special teams score, and at least 1 of Favre's 2 INTs directly lead to a Bears score.

In 06 we lost the last game of the season when Rex Grossman publically admitted he was thinking about his New Years party more than the game.

In 05 we won a mostly defensive game. I seem to remember the Bears up by a couple of points, Favre driving and then throwing a pick to Manning Jr. or maybe Azumah that he took back into FG range for the Bears.

So mixed bag of results, but nothing that would indicate there is a stigma of the Packers playing great at Soldier Field.

(with the possible excepction of the obvious 13 win season Tampa is about to have).

I do enjoy these surprise winning underdog stories the NFL seems to come up with every year. Sometimes they even sweep right through to Super Bowl championships.

Actually I love it in every sport.

Even though I've got no particular love for Tampa, I'll naturally root for them most weeks just to see how beside themselves everyone will become if they really do start to look like a contender (myself included).

The Bears could be that kind of team this year too, although not to the same degree I think.

We'll see about Tampa. They looked good yesterday, but neither the Browns or the Panthers look to be very good, and they barely beat the Browns. I guess we'll know after their next 3 games (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, New Orleans).

I thought the MVP of the Dallas game was Mike Martz. After watching the first few possessions, I didn't think there was a chance in hell that Cutler would make it through that game. Martz was able to change it up enough to keep Cutler protected while still driving the team down the field. Simply masterful, IMHO.

Yeah, he was excellent. Gonna need more of the same vs. Green Bay and Clay Matthews' boy.

But a loss isn't the end of the world. The next 5 are @ NYG, @ Carolina, v. Seattle, v. Washington, @ Canada/Buffalo. Four of those 5 teams looked like bottom 5-6 teams in the NFL this week.

Funny how a couple weeks can change your perspective on the schedule difficulty...I'm trying not to jump to conclusions here, but there are a lot of games that look a lot more winnable this morning.

The Giants game was the only won that looked potentially intimidating, but there wasn't any reason to assume the Giants were world beaters even before this week.

The Vikings and Eagles both look a lot less scary than they did before the season started, imo.

Right, but I have no doubt those are going to be tough games. The schedule is still a beast, IMO. You have GB twice, MIN twice, New England, Jets, Dolphins on the road, Philly, Redskins, NYG. Those are tough games, and I don't want to get carried away with thinking we're going to win more than half of those games. Win 5 of them though and you're looking very good for the playoffs. That would leave them with 7 wins, and the other four games are extremely winnable: Seattle, Carolina, Detroit and Buffalo. Win three of those and you have 10 wins.

The Bears haven't had an OC in so long (forever is a really long time).
I disagree. The Bears have had some VERY offensive coordinators in recent years.

Just not the meaning of the word "offensive" that you were thinking of. :D

LOL, so much optimism in this thread. Remember the thread after game 1 last year?

Something about winning and deodorant comes to mind...

what do you mean by very offensive? hasn't the bears offense struggled in the last few years?

This should be a fun/interesting game. To start the year when I went game by game I actually had this game as a Packer loss.

From what I watched it looks like the Bears LB's are playing well. Urlacher and Briggs have been all over the place. I really didn't believe in Cutler after the Lions game but he looked really good against the Cowboys on Sunday. That deep ball he threw to Knox was beautiful. The Packers have put pressure in both games they have played (Clay Matthews 6 sacks) and should get pressure on Cutler this game. The Packers are going to have to stop the screen passes to Forte/Taylor which seemed to be money for the Bears the first 2 weeks.

The Packers offense has really came out slow the past 2 weeks. However, Rodgers did go 11 for 13 in the 2nd half which was a good to see. I don't think they can afford to come out slow in this game. Green Bay will miss Ryan Grant this game, over his career against Chicago Grant avg. 100.8 ypg and 5.04 ypc. Although the main goal for Chicago will be to stop Aaron Rodgers.

I think the team that wins this game will be the team who gets more pressure on the other teams quarterback and which team's secondary can make more plays. I know its only week 3 but I am pumped up for this game.

I actually think that this is one game where we won't miss Grant. The Bears have always stopped the run really well and their secondary is still a question mark.

I'm assuming that Rodgers and Cutler will both be throwing a ton next Monday.

I'm ready for this game too. The Packers like to blitz so I expect the Bears to throw plenty of screens.

I expect our 1-5-5 formation to get plenty of work. We sure as hell better not be doing straight up man blitzes after what the Bears offense did to Dallas several times yesterday.

Oh man I forgot Packers fans always come and flood this thread when we play them. Should be a fun week and don't mind me if I bitch at your presence in this thread during the game on Monday.

I will not be posting during the game however. Already a Brewer fan, I enjoy this site to much to risk that :)

FO on Cutler's week 2 performance in "Quick Reads" (he was 9th in DYAR this week behind Orton, McNabb, Rodgers, Schaub, Peyton, Sanchez, Ryan and Rivers...mostly because there were that many great performances at QB this week):

That's just about a flawless game on the road against one of the league's most fearsome pass rushes. And it all came after Cutler lost his starting left tackle to injury. (On the other hand, Chris Williams serves as a good antidote against Aaron's argument that your starting tackle is clearly better than your swing tackle.) Cutler was sacked on his first dropback and not once more, and while he was only successful on 14 of his 30 dropbacks, he made up for the leaner times with big plays to Devin Hester (38 yards), Greg Olsen (39-yard touchdown), and Johnny Knox (59 yards). Furthermore, he sealed the game in the fourth quarter by going 5-for-5 for 73 yards. This was a game for the pundits who suggested that Cutler's temperament or performance in clearly-demarcarted zones of importance were substandard.

I, for one, grew tired of people suggesting that Cutler's temperament or performance in clearly-demarcarted zones of importance is substandard.

Oh they'll be back, with the same argument, if he doesn't continue to be perfect.
