Geez, what happened to Kazmir? I remember people crucifying the Mets for trading him to Tampa for Victor Zambrano, as many thought he was going to be the franchise pitcher. He had flashes in TB an hasn't shown' much in Anaheim... injuries, or is he just not that good?

He had 3 really good years for TB from 06-08, but was sidetracked with an injuries over that time. That and he is lacking in some control/is inefficient in his pitches. This year his numbers have been inflated by three starts where he gave up 6, 7, and 5 ER over a low amount of innings, but otherwise hasn't been horrible (still inefficient at times). In 3 starts in June he has been 3-0 with a 1.353 WHIP and 2.12 ERA, however he only pitched into the 7th once.

TB traded him mostly due to the fact that he is owed 8mil this year and 12 next year (13.5 in 2012 or a 2m buyout). They did get a pretty good pitching prospect in Torres back (9th overall in TB's system according to BA in 2010)

there should be no doubt in anyones mind that he'll shut down the cubs though

I benched Kazmir and started Carlos Zambrano and Gio Gonzalez. Of course, Kazmir will throw 8 shutout innings while Gio and Z will go 0-3 this week with a 9.00 ERA.

You're kidding with that today, right?

Meh, can't be much worse than Theriot at this point. Theriot is posting a whopping 595 OPS vs leftys this year.

Pick your poison, basically. I don't mind Theriot still starting against LH if they're really going to shop him or listen to trade offers since that way he has at least a chance of looking better.

Tyler Colvin really isn't leading off right? I mean seriously, hes not, that HAS to be a typo.

Better him than Theriot.

The way Soriano is playing I almost wish we'd just put him back at the top.

The Cubs really do not have a legitimate leadoff hitter. You could make a valid argument against whoever Lou puts in the leadoff spot.

If you are going to put Colvin leading off, you may as well put Soto leading off, and his 417 OBP. Or Baker, Soriano, Byrd. Colvin would be about the last guy Id put leading off and especially vs a lefty.

Yea it is a pick your poison thing which is why I said it cant be much worse than Theriot.

Very few, if any, teams have a legit leadoff hitter.

Cubs need a fast, black, slap-hitting, lefty CF.

Not that I'm a fan of Lou's manlove for Theriot, but partial-year platoon stats are almost completely nonpredictive of future performance. It takes about three years of platoon splits to be able to predict future platoon splits with any accuracy. BP has done some work on this in the past, and Tango/MGL study it in The BOOK, IIRC.

That might be the best lineup he's put out all year. Top 3 for sure.
