Man I hope Italy go out. Also be nice to see New Zealand somehow advance. That would be crazy.

Right now they're in the same position the US faced. Score and win the group, tie and go home.

Ha, yeah. Still expecting Italy to wake up and advance (even this crappy Azzurri version).

Yeah I love Miles Davis and the Beatles which is why I used them intentionally. I love baseball, basketball and like football and hockey. Even sports I don't like (NASCAR) I can still appreciate what other people like about them. I'd like people to give that respect to soccer. I don't care if they like it, just don't make me listen to your tiresome, inaccurate ramblings about grass fairies, flopping and boredom.

There's nothing inaccurate rambling about flopping. And it's kind of ridiculous to expect everybody to appreciate what other people like about a different entertainment form, which is all this stuff is. NASCAR is dumb. I don't care that other people find entertainment in it. It does nothing for me. Soccer I can appreciate, even if I hated playing as a kid (but loved indoor soccer).

Let's step back a little from the "only fuddy duddy white people don't like soccer" and just enjoy the moment a bit.

Italy even with 2 goals can't win the group unless Paraguay loses as far as I can tell. Italy would need 3 goals in the second half to win the group without help.

Edit: Oops. Realized you were talking about New Zealand. Sorry.

I think he's talking about New Zealand. As it stands right now, New Zealand would finish with three points, behind Paraguay (5) and Slovakia (4), but if they scored, they would have 5, Paraguay 4 and Slovakia 4.

I think you're missing my point and/or I'm not expressing it good enough. I hate NASCAR too, but if a fan were to tell me they like it because the drivers are just like them, they can get drunk, there's tons of sluts around, the cars are fast, the sound is loud and the wrecks are numerous and dangerous, I'd say yeah, if that's what you're after, it's probably a good "sport" for them. Even though all that stuff sounds super great to me, I can't get over the whole redneck culture. So I watch the occasional F1 and IRL race instead. When people say they don't like soccer because of flopping, but at the same time can't concede the positive points like I just did for NASCAR, I don't like it. Yes flopping is part of the game, yes I concede it's not likable, but that obviously isn't all there is to the game. I don't care if on balance the negatives don't outweigh the positives for somebody, but don't act like the positives don't exist and I'm an effeminate socialist (and possibly gay) for liking soccer.

That's not why you're an effeminate socialist (and possibly gay). :)

Had to be done.

Please get a second goal, Slovakia. You're going to have a ton of chances to counter with Italy pushing for a goal.

EDIT: Well that was quick. Thank you, Slovakia.

Nobody told me there were sluts at Nascar events.

You must not git em drunk enough.

maybe i'm just showing some naivete, but if they go to PKs, would it be insanely outlandish to go with Guzan, who seems to perform well when facing a PK?

Yes it would be insanely outlandish. Besides that, you're remembering Guzan in Villa's cup runs? Do you remember Tim winning year before last's FA Cup semifinal vs United in pk's? He's a great penalty stopper himself.

Wasn't aware that Howard was as well, though I should have figured as much with his athleticism. Thanks for setting me straight.

Honestly, I just can't take another bite of Italy's complete humiliation. I'm stuffed.

France, Italy, LOL

From 2006 finalists to last in their groups in 2010.

At least Italy can feel good knowing this isn't the worst performance by a defending World Cup champ. 2002 France has that one locked up - one point and no goals scored with a -3 differential.

Has this ever happened before? The two finalists from the previous World Cup getting knocked out before the round of 16?

Nope.

And it's glorious.
