Lou's obviously lost all control if this is legit.

I thought the Cubs were getting a guy who kept a tight clubhouse in Lou Piniella. He really has softened in the last couple years. I don't think he has the energy or will to keep a tight ship anymore.

I just can't believe he let Ramirez bring a gun to the clubhouse. That has to be illegal.

Zambrano killed a guy with a trident.

I've been meaning to talk to him about that. He should probably find himself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because he's probably wanted for murder.

Things really escalated quickly

The last thing this team needs to do is concentrate on is hazing the young talent. If someone is angry with Ramirez because he won't let Castro be abused then consider what he might be protecting the kid from...

There are going to be very unhappy players on the team. Some are going to be unhappy with the way Ramirez parts his hair, since he's hitting well below Mendoza. I figure, if Lou thinks there's a real problem, he'd take action.

I have no idea why Ramirez is getting the no work tag, but since he's injured, there might be a very good reason. I'm guessing that Ramirez is pretty close to finished. Both he and Z can't be weighing in too heavily on control of the team.... Neither one is even close to earning their salaries. Of course, Zambrano could just pound anyone into submission if they don't like him calling the shots...

Hey, it's time to clean house in Chicago. Build this team around some young players. See if anyone wants to take Lee, Soriano, Ramirez, Zambrano and some of their contracts.... This team is a mess and it isn't gonna get fixed any time soon.

Of course there are problems in the clubhouse. Name one veteran player who is playing well enough to lead.

Byrd, Silva, Marmol, Soriano. Thats 4 what do I win?

Nothing. Failure to follow simple instructions... Name one.

Of your list, Soriano is overpaid and struggled so much last year, I don't think he could step up and lead.... Silva and Byrd aren't real veterans of this club. I also dunno if they are leaders.... Marmol is in the pen and not likely in much of a position to lead.

Exactly, you dont know who is or isn't a "leader" in the clubhouse, thats my point.

\Baseball is pretty much an individual sport (offensively and on the pitcher mound, for the most part, at least) why do we need club house leaders in the first place and if we actually do need leaders what does it mean to be one?

I don't see why having a club house "leader" means much and if it does I imagine it would be old guys who are good baseball players. That's what old guys who used to play the game pretty much tell me anyways. I'd say all the previously mentioned players are old guys who are playing well (not that I care about having a club house "leader").

Boers & Bernstein alluded to Carlos Silva being a complete jerk and most of the other players on the team disliking him. I missed a lot of the conversation, so I didn't catch the details, but both of them seemed to agree that he has some issues in the clubhouse.

He was hated in Seattle, it's why I found the Bradley trade hilarious

Ryan Franklin was upset about it earlier this year (he's an avid hunter, though I'm not sure why he would need one in the clubhouse). Anyway, I'm not sure it's illegal, but MLB has a rule against it.

There are also the city of Chicago's laws about gun ownership.

I guess it's somewhat disturbing, but not all that ususual to see a team that is dropping ballgames start sniping.

Losing makes everyone's faults come out. Suddenly everyone's got something wrong with them, or isn't a very good guy, or has trouble getting along with others.

I love that people are seemingly just reading posts at random in this thread.

What's supposed to be the issue with Silva? Haven't heard the issues he had in Seattle, supposedly anyway.

Silva called out his teammates publicly in Seattle on multiple occasions for being selfish and trying to pad stats. He also said this:

"Maybe Chief has to go and grab somebody from his neck and throw him into the wall and something's going to change," he said, speaking of himself. "I'm very close to doing that, so write that down."

Of course the fact that Silva did this while he was pitching horribly and some felt that was partly due to his refusal to get in shape did not go over well.

He also supposedly tried to turn the clubhouse against Ichiro when Ichiro was supposedly refusing to listen to suggestions to move him elsewhere in the lineup. Supposedly.

He was a horrible pitcher that had signed a ridiculous contract.

i'm starting to get the sense that media, players, and fans all sort of resent those guys. it's just a hunch though.

To be honest, from an outsider's point of view, it seems that the Cubs are always having some kind of drama, so a story like this, true or not, seems plausible. But a team's standings and record make a difference, too.
