Not only is it not an impossibility, but Miami's way would likely be the ideal way to build a long term franchise. Their only possible problems would be in the short term not the long term.

It may not be an impossibility, but that plan is based on getting solid to good role players, or basically luck into them in the draft.

The Heat will offer a 5 year 30 million dollar deal to the best role player on the market every single year. And who wouldn't want to sign with them because of the great chance of winning a championship? Their depth would continue to increase. And that is added on to the veterans that might sign on with them to win a title or the draft picks that will add some depth.

Adding role players in the NBA is not difficult because of all the exceptions the NBA gives you. Teams don't need cap room to add role players. They only need cap room to add stars and Miami will have plenty of those.

There's no guarantee that the rules will be that way after this year, right? And I can definitely see a bunch of people pissed at the heat for trying to game the system in this manner making that a focal point in the new CBA.

If this happens, those 3 guys are going to be under a ridiculous amount of pressure the entire time they're there, and especially this year. Anything less than a title is a huge failure, right? I wonder what Bosh will be like in the playoffs.

I don't buy this talk that LeBron/Wade/Bosh and a bunch of scrubs can't win a ring. No team can possibly guard all three.

All three can't possibly be on the floor the entire game.

Look, it's clearly an incredibly impressive trio, but it's not like they won't be vulnerable. They can't play the entire game with all three of them out there, and God help them if one of LeBron or Wade goes down with an injury.

The thing that strikes me with this arrangement if it goes down is that all the pressure is going to be there to win it all now, and this isn't a team set up to win it all now.

no team except for maybe the knicks and bulls can afford to be that far into the luxury tax. would they be deep? yes. they'd also be broke, real broke.

That's true although the soft cap is pretty good for both sides so I'm not sure who would push hard enough to change it. But even if the CBA does dramatically change, that still leaves Miami with 3 stars and in pretty good shape every year.

I doubt Lebron does that because of the money concerns and the image concerns. But that team would definitely be scary this year and really scary the years after that.

it won't be done, ccp is assuming every nba team has an infinite amount of money.

I'm really let down that you of all people left the Nets out.

That's hard to say. Their revenues would definitely be much higher with all the excitement. And their owner is pretty rich even as owners go. But that is a possibility.

LeBron led a team of scrubs to the playoffs. Dwyane led a team of scrubs to the playoffs. That team will not completely collapse for the minutes they won't all be on the court together, that's just silly talk.

And a point getting lost, is that all 3 can guard their position. They aren't going to be playing a bunch of 130-120 games. They are going to be able to score in the fastbreak w/ anyone, score in the half court with anyone, and score on isolations all day, then they each have the ability to stop their man at any given time.

For a man who pride him on being tight lipped, there is a lot of name dropping going on in the past 24-48 hours. First it was the Knicks, then it is the Heat. You remember the last person in James inner circle who was name-dropping? WWW was kicked out of the circle. He may end up going to Miami, but right now it sure do look like the Heat are a smokescreen. And with a police providing security around James' home tonight (why would he need security if he was staying) I think he is living, but I don't know if Miami is the destination.

He has a point. People can't swear up and down that Lebron's an idiot to go back to Cleveland because they're a 20 win team without him, then say Lebron + Wade + Bosh + scrubs can't compete

Plus, they'll have the ability to have one of Wade/James on the floor at all times, which is what the Bulls were able to do with Jordan and Pippen for the better part of 6 championship seasons.

You honestly think that no one will join these guys for a title? Granted, it won't be superstars but Miami will get people to take the minimum for a chance to win a title.

Good point. If he's setting up all this suspense to sell ads for his big show tonight, why are he and his people giving away all the info early? But I think if it is a smokescreen, the only alternative is going back to Cleveland.

But not everyone is saying that. Trading one flawed situation for another flawed situation isn't necessarily an immediate improvement just because the specific flaws are different.

Uh, no, this isn't a charity. It's one thing to see people take realistic relative pay cuts and another to assume that key role players will join for the minimum.

Bill Simmons completely detroyed all 3 guys in that article, badly.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/100708

Everything he says about Wade and Bosh is true

That's a great column. I know it's cool on the internet to hate on Simmons now (after it was first cool to like him) but I still enjoy his stuff, especially on basketball.

I really hope he stays with the Cavs. If not, I'm with Simmons on how much my opinion of LeBron has changed.

When did Wade or Lebron lead a "team of scrubs" to the playoffs?

What was the Heat last year? With those 3 Miami can't sign Arroyo or Wright? Dwyane carried the 06 team in the championships by himself. Sure he had Shaq, but that was all Wade.

Jamison is nice sometimes sure, but when there's 3 superstars on the same team you don't need a Jamison on the team.

If those 3 get on the same team and get rid of beasley they will still have about 1.8 mil in cap space. I know it's sexy to think this isn't possible but it's absolutely possible to happen.
