For me, if I enjoy a sport, I don't give a crap how long the playoffs take.

That gets to the root of the whole thing. I think a majority of people don't enjoy watching sub-.500 or barely .500 teams try to hang with the top teams for 10 days or so.

He's just bitter because the Bulls made the playoffs and the Rockets didn't.

I'm quite happy the Rockets didn't make the playoffs. I've had two years in a row with our best player/s not healthy for the playoffs and thus no real shot at a championship. I'm not so desperate for the playoffs that I would root for the 8th seed just so I can say my team made the playoffs at the cost of the lottery.

Oh and 42-40 in the Western Conference >>>>>>>>>> 41-41 in the Leastern Conference.

The 2010 Houston Rockets: 28-24 against the West, 14-16 against the "least".

Also, I thought this was a playoff thread, not a "lottery teams discussion thread".

I think we clearly need a separate thread for this discussion to avoid confusion.

I feel like this thread is headed in a bad direction.

Anyways, feeling good about the Magic right now. Finished ahead of LA for 2nd best overall record, which means we'll be hosting the Finals if we make it back there. I am glad it works out so that we get Charlotte and, if we win, the winner of Atlanta/Milwaukee. Three teams that have very little recent playoff experience. I am afraid of the Celtics, hopefully they can upset the Cavs. Actually, I hope the Bulls can.

Sure, if you include the conference tournaments in "March Madness" it's about a month. However -- and I apologize for presumptuousness/talking out of place -- most casual fans, of which I believe OMC is, don't care much about the conference tournaments. To them, "March Madness" is exclusively the actual NCAA Tournament. The NCAA tournament itself lasts about 2.5 weeks with games only being played on 10 days (excluding the play-in game). That is substantially shorter than the NBA Playoffs.

Go Bobcats....I guess.

Add me to the list that likes the NBA playoffs. I suppose it's because I'm really not a huge NBA fan and didn't watch much regular season action at all - just highlights and boxscores. So I normally start watching around this time and enjoy the games because they mean so much more. Therefore, I don't really have any problem with them "dragging on". I guess it's kind of like a casual baseball fan without a favorite team watching games in October just for the drama.

LONG PLAYOFFS RULE.

Sure, possibly. My post wasn't a qualitative assessment, simply factual. The NBA Playoffs are way, way longer than the NCAA Tournament. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is an opinion.

Exactly. It's very smart on the NBA's part because it basically gives them a second mini season that draws in a lot more people who don't follow the regular season all that much.

Couple series I'm really looking forward to. Specifically, Nuggets-Jazz and Lakers-Thunder (haven't really seen the Thunder play much). The other two West series should be good as well, and Mavericks-Spurs is another outstanding matchup for the first round. Not sure any of the series in the East thrill me.

I'm not going to say I don't like the NBA playoffs, but I doubt I'll be watching any 1st round games besides the Bulls, Celtics, and Jazz. Maybe if there's a game 7 in the West.

For the most part, it's something I may watch the end of, watch while doing something else, or watch intermittently. At least until later in the playoffs and even then not necessarily.

Ahh shucks we were 2 games below .500 playing without our best player and more than half the games against playoff teams.

Anyways I think the Cavs win it all this year and they cruise through most of the playoffs. I think Dallas makes it out of the West.

LOL at "more than half the games against playoff teams" when EVERY SINGLE TEAM has more than half their games against the other conference against playoff teams.

I wish the first round in the NBA playoffs were still a best-of-five series. Other than that though, I like the NBA playoffs and the NHL playoffs. The length really isn't that big of a problem to me.

How is it possible for every team in the league to play a majority of their games against the other conference against playoff teams? Maybe it is possible but I can't think of how, especially when schedules are made before the season starts and thus you don't know who will make playoffs and who won't.

Because you play an equal # of games against each team in the opposing conference. And there are 15 teams per conference. And 8 make the playoffs.

Because the schedules are uniform as to inter-conference games. Each team in the Western Conference plays two games (one home, one away) against each team in the Eastern Conference, and vice versa.
