Can we separate this Soriano non sense into its own thread? Firing Lou is the important thing right now, not that 1 person illogically thinks Soriano wouldn't get picked up by basically every team in the majors for the league minimum?

yes, jim hendry is going to look to this thread to decide whether to fire lou and if he sees it's an unorganized mess, he won't even bother. let's get our ducks in a row, people.

Wtf are you talking about? Who said anything about Hendry? I understand you are trying to be your normal smartass, arrogant, prick self, but at least make sense when you are trying to. The Soriano discussion has nothing to do with "Fire Lou Piniella" so it should be separated into its own thread. Hard to understand?

no reason to get so anal

Koyie Hill is starting once again. Would be real nice if somebody would question Lou on his justification of starting a catcher with a June OPS of 632 and a career OPS of 554 over the guy who has a June OPS of 1.139 and career OPS of .817 on a team that is consistently struggling to score runs. Noway in hell you can justify it by defense, NONE.

Look, we need to start winning games, ok? What can I do? [growl; grumble; next question]

Catcher Koyie Hill started Tuesday night, his second straight start. Lou Piniella said Geovany Soto will be back behind the plate Wednesday and Thursday when the Athletics start two left-handers.

"We're just trying to win baseball games right now," Piniella said Tuesday. "Both catchers have done a nice job behind the plate. I don't know -- we can go either way with that. Tonight Hill is catching because we won the other night."

Here are some other numbers:

* When Hill is behind the plate, the Cubs pitchers have a 3.58 ERA, compared to 4.14 ERA when Soto is catching.

* Hill has thrown out three of 16 base stealers, while Soto has thrown out six of 39. Teams may not be running as much against Hill, but a significant number of the stolen bases are because of the pitchers, not the catchers.

* Hill is batting .232 while Soto is hitting .266, but Soto also was hitting just .120 from May 11-June 4.

What an idiot. As others have pointed out Hill's "superior" defense hasn't won very many games for a team starving for offense.

Hahahahaha what a load of [expletive]! We can go either way? Just trying to win baseball games by playing the offensively inept Koyie Hill. And why am I not surprised they actually brought up the ERA of pitchers with Soto and Hill. I wonder how much of Soto's "catchers ERA" has been fucked because of our [expletive] bullpen the 1st month of the season. Who cares its a ridiculous and meaningless stat.

Sure, Hill's SLG is .290, but what are his stats over the last seven Tuesdays?

You guys need to think about this stuff when picking your starting catcher.

Dude, they are just trying to win games they could really go either way. Over 800 OPS or over 500 OPS there isn't that much difference dude.

Seeing Zambrano sitting through a long, painful press conference after this game and answering questions for all this time, I feel like someone he knows needs to give him a hug right now. This is terrible.

Lou did the whole "have Zambrano bat for himself and then pull him in the next inning" thing and its never gotten any less dumb

great move tonight calling the hit and run with byrd up to bat. lou is such an a-hole, i can't wait for him to go away.

Get ready to see Sandberg call for bunts, hit and runs and steals galore

Its gonna be awesome. If 2010 is our letdown year a la 2005, get ready for 2006 redux next year

Comparing this year to 2005 is an insult to 2005

Is it just me or does Lou decide to take out a starter based on when he gives up a final run or two in the late innings?

Why carry a seven man pen if you're going to make your starter go back out for the seventh with a five run lead and 104 pitches already thrown?

He does it all the time and it's infuriating. He waits for his starter to fail.

Lou has never handled a bullpen well over the course of his managing career.

Yes, but it seems that he's been "harder" on his starters this year than he has been in the past, no? It's certainly possible that I'm imagining this [insert the Fred Signal] but it seems starters are getting taxed a little more this year. I just remember wondering about Lou's starter use when he was hired (typically my primary concern with any manager) and feeling like he really hadn't really over-taxed his starters in his time with the Cubs coming into 2010. Early on this season may have been because the bullpen was struggling, but that excuse is gone now.

Like I said, I may be off on this and haven't looked it up yet. That's the perception I'm getting though.
