well these two teams are easily the favorites to play for the title in march

nobody calls winning the nit the title and mizzou is going to go to the real tournament

Take it easy illiniguy

I really don't need to defend myself anymores on Weber being over his head as a coach of our team. I mean if we fire him now we might miss out on recruits that will get 4 or 5 minutes a game in the first two years under his watch. But, when we are in teh NIT again this year I am sure he will be quick to blame someone else besides himself. Again.

What amount of coaching accounts for shear stupidity?

On who's part? We have the deepest team we have had in years and we are playing 7 guys. If the players are being stupid, use playing time as punishment.

The worst part for Illinois fans is that this was only the second loss in your three game losing streak.

Good lord, I hope not.

I hope you have someone on your schedule you can beat next weekend.

Well you have mid major talent, so he should be right at home in that atmosphere. I don't know if Howard can get him enough Mr. Basketball to win the Big Ten again.

The players, I agree about playing time as punishment, there were at least two needless turn overs one on Davis, one on Tisdale simply because they floated passes. Time and time again we see this from them, I'm certain Weber' all over them about it.

The last minute of that game was an indictment of Bruce Weber's coaching ability. That's all I'm going to say about it.

Our players consistently have some of the lowest basketball IQ's in major college basketball. That goes for Paul's turnover and Tisdale's foul. The lack of leadership on this team is maddening. We have a senior point guard and three other seniors who see significant time and we still blow games late. Its pathetic. This was Weber's year to prove us all wrong and the past two games he's fallen flat on his face.

ugly game between KU/Cal. Marcus Morris booted for an elbow above the head. A scrum broke out over a held ball.

KU is more or less in control, but they're still looking pretty average imo. Selby with 18 pts, though. He's pretty good. He'll be really dangerous when he learns to protect the ball better.

The game never should've come down to a ref's call. I credit Mizzou's defense on McCamey, but our guards are allergic to dribble penetration and think the jumper is the only way to score. I've said it for a few years now, we lose more games down the stretch because we don't get to the foul line. The game was 58-58 and Mizzou's guard doesn't settle for a jump shot he takes it to the basket with a lay in high off the glass. It's simple, when Illinois shoots well they win and they generally lose when they don't because they can't make up the points at the foul line. What did they have 12 foul shots? DJ Richardson was a cutter and slasher last year and now he sits on the perimeter and our so-called big men aren't strong enough nor do they like physical to stay down low to draw fouls. I haven't pressed the panic button. I'm not certain that the Big Ten is as good as advertised.

Deapul is 6-6 now. I may have to start watching them again.

Terrible idea. They'll lose their first 15 games in the Big East if they don't beat Seton Hall. They have the worst front line (size and rebounding wise) I've seen in a long time. And that's saying something.

Future looks OK though. Freshmen Brandon Young and Cleveland Melvin are actual Big East caliber and they've got a decent recruiting class coming in. May be able to sniff .500 overall next season.

It wasn't the officiating that decided the game. The intentional foul was an atrocious call, but our fate was sealed when we didn't get a defender back after the three. The Illini just played like crap the last 90 seconds. A lot of it was just inexplicable stupidity.

I'm willing to give Weber this season, he's got talent up the ass so, poor recruiting is no longer the excuse. There's no excuses for at least a tournament appearance and one victory, really a sweet 16 is not unreasonable. If none of that happens this season he should be canned.

I'm standing by my final 4 prediction

I think they'll be among the last four out, too.

I still can't come to grips with last night. I'm trying to put the loss in perspective, but I think it highlighted the on the court weaknesses of the Weber era. We are stuck with him for better or worse, and that's just downright depressing.

We lost because we shot like [expletive]. Either opposing coaches have figured out how to make us take bad shots, or we've had a cold week. I'm not concerned...yet. Edited by SouthSideRyan

The thing about it is, Illinois should play well enough to get into the tourney, and if McCamey and Richardson shoot well in the tourney they can go a long way if the team plays decent defense. All it takes is a couple guys getting hot from the field and the Illini look unbeatable
