I don't care what anyone else thinks--- I think Butler/VCU in the final 4 is great. The only thing that could make it better is if one team would be on the other end of the bracket, they both win and play each other in the final. I'd love for 2 mid-majors to play in the NCAA final game just to see the reaction from everyone.

 

And yeah, I agree that this doesn't feel quite as huge as George Mason a few years ago because George Mason beat some damn good teams to get there. Not that VCU didn't, but I think GM had tougher overall competition. Not to take anything away from VCU or even Butler-- they both absolutely deserve to be there and I love it.

I can't believe I'm still reading stories about this Painter to Missouri nonsense. Just give him that extension/raise and end the whole charade already.

 

The only thing I can figure is that they can't really afford to give him a raise. They gave him an 8 year extension to 1.3 million last April. If Mizzou is really offering upwards of 2.4 million, then I can't imagine that Purdue can really afford to go that high, if they can go up at all.

I think the final 4 is the highest seed total in history at 26 (11+8+3+4). I think the old record is in 2001 when Wisconsin and North Carolina made the final four as 8 seeds along with 5 seeded Florida and 1 seed and eventual champion Michigan State.

If that is really what Mizzou is offering then I doubt Purdue would match. I honestly feel like Painter's best shot at getting Purdue to the Final Four has come & gone now.

Also, one Missouri sports blog is reporting that they have inside sources that say this will be announced on Tuesday. Color me sceptical.

Did anyone think Smart was a good coach before his team unjustly got into the tournament? He's lead VCU to a 5th and 4th place finish in the CAA with Anthony Grant's recruits.

Anyone read what was put on Yahoo sports yesterday by Brad Evans?

 

Host: Does Brad Stevens stay or does he leave?

 

Evans: I think he is going to stick around. Look it's going to take the perfect job in order to wrest away Brad Stevens away from Indianapolis. You know, one point I do want to bring up is this. An hour and a half west of Indianapolis is Champaign, IL. Lot of unrest there in CU right now with Bruce Weber. Obviously Weber's leash is still a little bit long [but] it's definitely tightened up. Let's say Stevens sticks around at Butler through next year, Weber has another lackluster season with marquee talent coming in, a top recruiting class. I wouldn't be at all surprised that could be ultimately the step that propels Brad Stevens to the high major stage and he travels west to Champaign, but only in those circumstances. I don't think the Tennessee job, the Providence job, or really any other job that is available I would see Brad Stevens leaving Butler for.

I don't think anyone knew anything about him before the tournament. Besides just getting to the Final Four, his gameplans for each tournament game so far have really impressed me.
