Is Jason Whitlock really saying that Bobby Knight will replace Matt Painter?

Sar-chasm.

He tweeted that Matt Painter was going to Ball St (his alma mater) for 7 years, $70K per with use of a pickup truck. People were too dumb to notice the obvious joke and started asking him if it was true and then asking other reporters if they had heard about Painter going to Ball St. So then he said that Knight was going to Purdue for 3 years/$30M, again making it obvious that he wasn't serious with those details.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I read it on another forum and it was posted by someone that obviously missed the joke.

Here is the text of an email sent by the Purdue athletic department this morning to their donors. Nothing like dumping on your donors at a time like this, lol. :P

Dear John Purdue Club Members:

Thanks for the outpouring of support for Matt Painter and for your concern for our Purdue men’s basketball program.

In an effort to allay many of your concerns and dispel much of the misinformation by “unnamed sources”, Athletics Director Morgan Burke has asked me to share with each of you that he is working diligently with President France Cordova and our Board of Trustees to ensure that Matt remains our head coach for many years to come.

Proactively they have made an investment in Matt that was communicated last evening, clearly reinforcing their continued commitment to him and to our championship program. They did not wait to counter anyone else’s offer. It is my hope that the words and actions of our President, our Board and Morgan will encourage Matt, Jerri and their family to remain with Purdue.

Personally, I have been overwhelmed with the number of e-mails pledging to join the John Purdue Club or increase support. Ironically, I believe we would not be in this situation had more than 11% of our current membership participated in the Mackey Challenge and more than 150 of our nearly 9,000 members recruited at least one new member. More of the Big Ten television revenues could have been allocated for compensation for the basketball coaching staff members and less toward the critical path of updating Mackey Arena.

As a self-supporting university auxiliary, we can spend only what we raise, so everyone’s participation will ensure that we retain Matt and provide championship-quality experiences for every single one of our Boilermaker student-athletes.

Thanks for your continued loyal support and passionate commitment….stay tuned!

BOILER UP, HAMMER DOWN, and HAIL PURDUE!

The Mrs. must have let our JPC membership slip, because I didn't receive that e-mail. Perhaps I'm one of the ones Nancy is calling out.

My bad, Purdue fans. Pin the potential loss of Painter on me. Or you could pin it on the crapload of money we spend to upgrade our swimming facilities, instead of throwing $20,000 more at an assistant coach.

Is Crean aware that scholarship limits exist? One over already and he's working on a 3 star PF?

For what? To take Watford's spot in the drive for 15 wins next season?

I won't comment on the scholarship situation because I have no idea how that's going to work out. It certainly is curious. Regarding the player, IU is still, in my opinion, in desparate need of more big men. If Traylor can play -- and he is being recruited by some really good programs, including Kansas, though this late in the year is "grain of salt" time -- he fills a need for both next year and the future. Even if you're right about the 15 win prognostication (I suspect you are, but the team at least has some potential to win more than that), a 3-star big man is better than no big man at all.

Newest Twitter rumor says Painter flying into Columbia this afternoon to "get the lay of the land"

He could've just watched No Reservations last night and saved himself the trip.

Should know by Noon tomorrow what he's doing.

I went from "Yeah Painter isn't coming here" over the past few days to "You know, we might have a shot" this morning to "Yeah I have no reason to believe he's going to come here" now. I don't know why, I just don't feel good about it.

Not sure how purdue could raise a million that quickly, but if so, good for them. Alden better get on the phone now and get some other candidates lined up.

They shamed da bum into chipping in.

unfortunately the quality of candidates drops rapidly after Painter. oh well, back to basketball irrelevance we go.

Maybe the football team will continue its upswing...

The more I think about this, the more I think it just boils down to Painter running away from his crappy recruiting so he doesn't get slammed the same way Weber did. He's never going to win like this at Purdue again. They've peaked and he wants out. Just a theory.
