I love Northwestern but...do they still play at Welsch-Ryan? Because that venue is kinda weak for major conference university.

yeah, they do, but the campus size (and enrollment) isn't big enough to go bigger. It could certainly use a face lift, though

I really like Welsh-Ryan. There are things that could use to be updated, particularly the scoreboard, but I'd rather see the money keep going towards other facility needs. It's a very intimate gym and great for college basketball. I really dislike NBA-style arenas and this is the complete opposite. If anything I'd love to see more wooden bleachers and fewer seatback.

It's amazing for students and it gets really loud on the court. I spent my entire time there as a student in the front row just a few feet from the inbounds line.

If there was going to be anything really significant done, it would probably be worth waiting a while and building something on campus. That would dramatically improve student attendance.

Isn't it kind of similar to the Phog? Field house style?

it has much more of a high school feel than AFH. Probably because of its size and the crowd size for the games I've been to.

This.

When the place is packed it's actually pretty awesome. The student section is right on the court -- you can really talk a lot of [expletive].

Well obviously it isn't going to have the same type atmosphere. I would think the success and tradition of Kansas would make that pretty obvious.

Former UK star Ed Davender, who played in the mid to late 1980s, has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for being part of a season ticket scam. He took money without providing the tickets. He will be eligible for parole after serving 20% of his sentence.

I heard Calipari offered him a scholarship when he gets out.

But where will Cal be coaching then?

It wasn't just an atmosphere thing though. The size and overall vibe were very high school. I thought it felt like a high school gym well before I'd ever been to AFH.

Huh, I've never been to either actually so I was just going off of what I've seen on tv. Maybe this will be the year I make the 10 minute trip to see the Phog, but I doubt it.

Can we imprison everyone that has anything to do with Kansas athletics for their scam?

I'm pretty sure that's the goal of the current legal proceedings.

It seems to be the consensus that the top 4 are a cut above anyone else in the conference. Here's who they only play once:

Purdue

vs. Northwestern

@ Michigan

Ohio State

vs. MSU

@ Northwestern

Michigan State

@ OSU

vs. Indiana

Illinois

vs. Michigan

@ Minnesota

Northwestern and Michigan are the two teams with the most favorable Big Ten schedules. On the flip side, Purdue got the toughest, I think.

Supposedly UConn is going to announce they're self-imposing sanctions tomorrow a la USC basketball last year.
