Don Bebee, somehow the commissioner of the Big 12, might be mentally [expletive].

When asked what the Big 12 would do to keep Missouri:

Beebe's response - "We'd try to convince MU fans that they have alot of rivalries that are out there that they participate in, and there are alot of MU fans who enjoy playing rivals like Texas and Texas Tech."

the big 10 can take missouri and then the big 12 can cut baylor and become the big 10

hey. [expletive] off.

plus wouldn't they cut iowa state over baylor? at least baylor's basketball program is decent and they've still got two years left of Hot Tub Griffin

we have to cut someone from the south to make it even since we'd already be losing one of those scrub big12 north schools

just realign them like this

Texas

Oklahoma

Oklahoma State

Texas Tech

Kansas

Texas A&M

Baylor

Colorado

Nebraska

Kansas State

looks good to me.

With 10 teams they would not need 2 divisions.

If Mizzou were to join the Big Ten, what teams would the Big XII look into as replacement candidates?

Arkansas?

It'd make sense, but that always seems to be more of a fan-driven thing rather than anything Arkansas actually wants.

I heard TCU. Their basketball team is probably less embarrassing than USF was when they entered the Big East(or present day DePaul)

Utah might also work for that reason, although I'm guessing the geographic logistics would be a problem.

I thought PSU and Illinois were generally considered the biggest party schools in the Big Ten

Never heard either one described that way. Always heard IU and Wisconsin, sometimes Ohio State.

iowa is up there, ahead of illinois but probably not wisconsin.

As someone who used to work at one of the biggest night clubs in IC (and what an awful place for an Illini fan to have to work, BTW), I can say you're right.

But I can also say it doesn't hold a candle to Madison, which is the party town in the B10.

TCU would make a ton of sense for the Big 12. Weren't they the team that got passed up for Baylor when the SWC/Big 8 merger happened? It'd be poetic justice in a sense.

How about the Big 14?

So if the Big Ten expands, what would it be named?

Don't discount this: the Big 14.

Seriously.

Multiple Big Ten sources told the Tribune Wednesday that 14 teams, even 16, could be in play as it relates to the Big Ten's potential expansion. "Anything is possible," one source said, beyond the conventional wisdom of simply adding a 12th school.

Missouri released a statement today saying they'd evaluate the idea if the Big Ten approached them (but they haven't yet).

12 is bad enough.

The only schools that should be considered are Notre Dame and Texas. If they don't want in, then you stick with 11.

Texas in the Big 10 would be very strange and unnatural.

I'm not saying it's likely, but they had been mentioned a couple years ago during that year's Big 10 expansion rumor. I think they'd definitely make more money out of it, but losing the Texas school rivalries makes it extremely unlikely.

My main point is there's no need for expansion. Expanding for the sake of expansion with a middle of the road BCS school like Mizzou is stupid. Go big or stand pat.

Haha, sounds like he wants to be rid of Mizzou.

I'm just sort of bemused by the whole idea. I know we would still have the Border War game, so I don't care as much about that. I just don't know what to think about it.

Arkansas?

That would make some sense because they are the most recent school to join the conference (early 90's I think). USC might have also come along around that time too.

But if you did that then you'd have to find another SEC team. Georgia Tech maybe?

Georgia Tech or Florida State were my initial thoughts.

SSR, there are plenty of reasons to expand, as I've already pointed out. The Big Ten wants to get a marquee game on Championship Saturday. They want to expand the territory of the Big Ten Network. You may not agree with the reasons, but saying "there is no reason to expand" is simply false.

And they aren't even going to ask Notre Dame. They've been rejected twice and have no intent of even asking again. It'll be Pitt, Mizzou or Rutgers

There is no intelligent reason to expand with the shitty options you provided. How bout that?

As already stated, nobody gives a [expletive] about Rutgers. The Pittsburgh market is already a part of the BTN (via PSU). That leaves making a short-sighted move of adding Missouri so you can add St. Louis for your cable station? Really?? It's dumb, and it's a short-term cash grab to hurt your potential in the long-term.

You make hard runs at Texas and ND, schools that will give you serious market share in cities that matter while being schools that will actually draw attention to your conference. Is anybody outside of the Post-Dispatch going to care about the dynamite acquisition of [expletive] MissourI?

If Texas/ND say no then you have 11. Perish the thought of having no championship game! How bout you act like the Pac 10 and schedule up to that last week. Put OSU/UM up against whatever [expletive] the ACC is running out for their title game year after year.
