Baseball Hall of Fame journalist Peter Gammons has decided to pursue new endeavors and will no longer be a contributor to ESPN after this week’s winter meetings.

Possible "new endeavors":

Touring with his band

Writing about the Red Sox

Talking about the Red Sox

Watching the Red Sox

Writing about his band

Starting a blog about the Red Sox

Working for the Red Sox

Writing about the Red Sox

Peter Gammons is awesome. He's a good writer, he has access like no one else and he loves baseball.

peter gammons' sunday columns in the boston globe were required reading back in the 80s and early 90s. i don't understand why people don't like him; he's smart, gets a lot of inside info and is really into baseball. compared to lots of other hacks out there he's miles better, and unlike most old men who cover baseball, he is progressive and open-minded with respect to new ideas/statistics.

in my next life i wouldn't mind coming back as peter gammons part 2.

agreed. unless gammons goes to mlb network, this really sucks.

Peter Gammons was awesome. He's a parody at this point.

Agreed. I used to like his segmen "Diamond Notes" on BBTN years ago, but it seems to me he wants to concentrate a little more time with his music.

They've taken Peter Gammons AND Bob Costas away from their primary networks.

MLB Network rules. Now all they gotta do is get rid of Mitch Williams and/or 12 of the other player analysts

You forgot writing songs for his band about the Red Sox. :D

Seriously though, I've always respected Gammons. He might just get me to watch MLB network at some point.

I admit it I'll probably have the MLB network on just a tad more because Gammons is there. He's a very familiar voice, and he does really care about the game.

you're annoyed by the fact that gammons is going to make money doing what he's best at. it's stupid.

I was clearly referring to the whole Red Sox thing, not journalism/reporting in general.

christ

he's the best red sox guy around. he's followed them in some capacity for like 90 percent of his career, and now he has a chance to cash a check for following them directly. he's free of ESPN, why wouldn't he work for the team he's covered his whole career now that he has the chance?

i cant believe im arguing with a 12 year old
