  1. Jason Bay, was a good player and now that he's a met he will become just another avg player. As so it seems when you go to the NY Mets. If he wanted to go to NY he would have signed with the Yanks at least they will win.
  2. sad story and the news just keeps getting worse as the night goes as the latest reports have his condition dire, not to mention that how a homicide investigation has been opened up which leads reporters to believe that he isn't going to make it. There was a article on Henry not to long ago where they have a picture of him with his wife and 3 kids...talking about how much of a family man he was. Despite all the issues he had, you just don't want to see it end this way. Prayers go out to him and his family.
  3. I heard this today that Selig hired people to oversee rule changes which this is one that is going to be looked at, but it would be the DH would be placed for the NL. I like the way it is now for the part that it makes the NL adjust to the AL when the square off against each other in regular season and post season. I don't see the DH being that big of a deal as it's been in the game for so long now.
  4. Duncan does a good job with project pitchers, by that he has taken pitchers plugged them into a rotation where normally you wouldn't think they would be any good. So, now Duncan gets a guy who was a top pitcher in the end we may see Penny return to at least a #2 pitcher.
  5. Peter Gammons is on his way to the MLB Network, the deal can be announced as early as Wednesday.
  6. I kind of feel bad for Mark Neeley I think was his name that the Pads hired last yr to replace Matty V only for himself to be replaced. But I guess when you have a chance to bring in a guy like Enberg you take the shot?
  7. Finally, one of the biggest fights in boxing in the last couple of years will go down. 8-)
  8. If he stays healthy then this is a very good deal for the Braves, if he doesn't it's a horrible but the Braves are looking at this as one of those signings labeled as high risk high reward. The Braves last year were missing that key guy in the back end of that bullpen and now they have him if he's healthy.
  9. Ive always been a fan of Polanco and his oddly shaped cranium, but 3/18mil? Even if he wasnt 34 years old, that would sound like a lot for him. I guess Ibanez worked out for them so who knows. All I know is if This were the Cubs, there would be people with torches and pitchforks outside Hednrys door. That sure seems like a good deal for Polanco. That does not seem like a good deal to me, but I'm guessing that means he will be their starting 3B. Also, "if this were the Cubs" and the Cubs were 1 year removed from a World Series title and one month removed from another NL pennant, I don't think many people would have room to freak out with pitchforks. I am guessing the same thing that Polanco will be the starting 3B for the Phillies, I don't see it being that smart of a move by them.
  10. If he finally makes it official and not just speculation then this is the best thing for baseball.
  11. There uniforms didn't look to have changed much, but it will be interesting to see how a open stadium does in Minny.
  12. FSU, TCU look perhaps the best, while OU, UF, Texas still kind of look the same as this years. As for LSU's I believe that there uniforms are horrible because the helmet doesn't make a lot of sense in terms of color from the looks of it.
  13. If the Reds unload like the rumors say, it will be a bad move as this team is just pitching away from being a contender.
  14. Carl Crawford was another notable snub in the OF and agreed I don't believe Hunter should have won his 9th straight Gold Glove.
  15. they did a pretty good job this yr on selecting the gold glove winners.
  16. I was a little surprised when I heard he got popped for weed, however it does explain his hairstyle to a degree...he's more a long the lines of a hippie if you will.
  17. getting the chance to keep this guy for a full season is going to be really good for them.
  18. Did anyone hear what Pedro Martinez had to say? If not he said that "He is the most influential person in Yankee Stadium." ...Really?
  19. Didn't see a post regarding this. But the Padres named 35 yr old Jed Hoyer as the new GM officially. He made some interesting comments that I am not sure how the Padre fans are going to take them here are a few: With that being said he fired both VP of scouting and player development Grady Fuson and scouting director Bill Gayton. That's not exactly what a fan probably wants to hear at this time seeing as how this team is in bad shape hitting wise. So if they don't go out and try to make moves its going to be a long rebuilding process as the farm system is horrible for the Padres despite a strong '09 draft. He mentioned that he will be talking to Adrian Gonzalez about a long term contract. :good: Here's the article: http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/oct/27/8216-logical-choice8217/?padres
  20. good luck to Mr. Mills. :hello:
  21. What? His wording makes sense if he actually meant at most a season. I'm just guessing here, but I don't think SSR's question of "what" is directed towards his grammar. I think its more directed at his whole point in that post because I know I have no idea what the point was supposed to be. Yeah, I didn't even notice the poor wording. Despite my poor "grammar" or "poor wording". The point of the post is that Ricky Henderson was a good baseball player just like McGwire was a good baseball player. However he was signed as a 3rd Base Coach by the Met's as well as he served time at one point in the season as a Hitting coach. So, if Ricky Henderson wasn't successful at either one of those spots then I don't see McGwire lasting a full season as the Cardinals hitting coach. So, the "what" post I thought was more towards the fact that maybe you didn't know that Ricky Henderson was a coach for the Met's at one point?
  22. I guess Bobby V doesn't interview well for open manager positions? I would rather have signed him than Manny Acta.
  23. I saw this...I thought about when the Mets brought in Ricky Henderson to be the 3rd base coach as well as a hitting coach at one time. We all know where there ended up. So if Ricky didn't make it I will give McGwire at least a season if that.
  24. What a joke. Mike Scioscia pulls his Ace who clearly wanted to stay in the game and finish his job after the umpires once again screwed the angels!! Then you have Mike Scioscia then continues the help as he pulls Lackey...wth man. Worse series ever.
  25. How did the umps help the Yankees put up any runs? They prolonged inning after inning which gave the Yanks there shots time and time again to just hit. That's how they helped the Yanks put up the runs. The Umpire came out and admitted to only 2 blow calls: Swisher, the Double play at 3rd. But there were still 3 other plays that he missed to: 2 plays at home and the pick off play at 2nd base and all of which you were able to see clear as day that they were missed. How does Tim McClelland look at the reply after the game and only admit to those plays. When even Fox was pointing out the miss calls and going as far as slow mo or freeze shots. East Coast Bias is starting to show signs of life. Article: http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2009/10/21/umpire-in-game-4-admits-he-blew-calls/ None of the critical blown calls in this game "gave" the Yankees any runs and in fact actually deprived them of runs. Your declaration of additional blown calls is a bit of a stretch, to say the least. What plays at home are you saying were called wrong? Going back and looking at one of the replays on one of the calls I had in question I take it back it was Cabrera's single that scored Cano he was safe. But the calls that were missed were: - Double Play at 3rd - Pick Off on Swisher - ARod at home, throw was high but Napoli was on him before he crossed.
