My favorite two tidbits from the poll:

Cincy got one first-place vote. Brian Kelly gave it to them.

Bo Pelini voted Texas #1.

If you were Cincy's AD and your coach just finished an undefeated season, wouldn't you want to fire him if he didn't vote your team #1? It's perfectly reasonable for the coach of an undefeated BCS team to vote his team #1 and I think it's actually his job to do so.

Bo Pelini deserves to be kicked in the balls for that vote.

There isn't nearly enough made of how ridiculous it is that this poll is a third of deciding who plays for the title. The mere fact that someone can (completely correctly) justify why a voter in such an important poll should make a vote that is pretty clearly wrong illustrates why it needs to go. Immediately.

So, to vote your own undefeated BCS team #1 is fine, but to vote the undefeated BCS team who beat yours #1 is not?

Ummm, okay.

I'd much prefer Alabama-TCU and Texas-Cincy rather than that.

too many teams imo. i could really do without at least 8 of those teams making it. i wouldn't support a playoff that had more than 8 teams.

in the four team playoff system that i devised previously, the tournament would be:

alabama-tcu

cincinnati-texas

boise st would be left out, as would florida.

BC +9 vs. USC is free money

that's just a boring game. plus i hate games like usc playing in the emerald bowl or oklahoma in the sun bowl or miami the year they went to play on the blue turf. what's their motivation? clearly they're more talented than their opponent, but they've underachieved all year and probably will just go through the motions.

Ole Miss may be without a coach in the JerryBowl. Sounds an awful lot like KU is moving quickly on him, and that he's serious. Either that, or he's just using KU to get what he wants at Ole Miss.

This will be interesting to watch.

Nutt isn't going anywhere. He's just fighting for leverage with our dipstick Athletic Director.

I'm not sure if Ole Miss should put up a fight to keep Nutt. IMO, you guys have already reached your peak with Nutt (and all the Hogs fans I know, were glad to be rid of him) while using Oregron players. Personally after the season you guys had, I don't think Nutt is entitled to bluff your AD into a pay raise or whatever he is trying to get, so IMO, let him go to KU and make a run and/or land a guy like Charlie Strong.

8 team playoff, with first round games on campuses of the higher seeded teams the week after conference championship games. "Final Four" on New Year's day (in rotating BCS Bowls) and Championship on the 1/8. Losers of first round games remain eligible for bowl games.

Oh, this is only the 800th time I've seen this idea posted.

Not to mention voting a team in your own conference #1. There is nothing wrong with what Pelini did.

I like Miami -2.5 against Wisconsin (like the FSU/UW game last year IMO).

And WVU will cover 3 against FSU. We won't be able to stop Devine. If there is a prop bet on his yardage, take the over.

You think it's ok for a coach to vote Texas #1? Shock!

My post was somewhat sarcastic, but I do think there's a difference between voting your undefeated team #1 and voting an undefeated team that you don't really think is the best in the country #1 because it could possibly benefit your team. Does he really think Texas is the best team in the country after they needed a last second FG to beat Pelini's team? It bothers me less when a coach gives his team a bump than when he bumps other teams in his conference even though he knows they don't deserve it (or should know, anyway).

I've said a number of times that I think TCU could/should be in the title game. Alabama beat Auburn on a last second drive but people are in love with the Florida win, which is fine it was a great win. I don't agree with him either, but its not a huge stretch or a big deal.

Here's SI's 16 team playoff bracket:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/ncaa/12/06/college.football.poll/index.html

I agree 16 is too many.

great first round matchup of iowa and ohio st.

And TCU-BYU

yeah i missed that one too.

i get that people like big tournaments and a 16-team tournament is what they have in i-aa, but as i've said before, i think one of the things that makes college football awesome and unique is that every game could be the difference between playing for a title and being left out. i think that goes away when you expand the field to 16 teams. i would favor the current broken system over a 16-team field. to me, the plus-one option was the way to go.
