I trust Hub about as far as I can throw him.

I really liked Hub when I was a kid, but now I don't listen to a thing that comes out of his mouth. I think it's the earring.

You have an earring that makes you not like Hub?

The Ron Tuner replacements are already lining up. Brad Biggs is reporting Mike Martz is very interested in working on the Bears coaching staff.

Sweet lord no.

Lovie's been hooking up with colleagues from his past though. I think there's a chance Martz is the guy. I'm not sure how much of a chance, but there's got to be a possibility.

I really don't know how I'd feel about Mike Martz as OC.

I know how I'd feel, and it's not very good. He's not a big believer in running the ball or protecting the QB. So, the Bears would basically be a better version of what they are now.

Thats basically how I feel. Yea he was the OC of some good/great offenses in Stl, but he had a crapload of weapons also. I think I'd rather have Kubiak if he becomes available.

Martz has been able to get the most out of Vernon Davis and Crabtree seems to be coming along well in a few games so far. He also made Jon Kitna a respectable QB for a pretty potent offense. But Kitna got sacked a ton. They never ran the ball. Warner got sacked a ton for the Rams. And they didn't run the ball as much as they should have.

There's some positives to Martz as OC, but SF is tied for last in the league (ironically enough w/ the Bears) with 221 rushing attempts. But they are getting 4.5 ypc. Gore did miss a couple games and they have fallen behind by a couple scores 2-3 times this year, but it doesn't look like he has turned the corner in balanced play calling (311 passes thrown, not counting sacks, QB scrambles).

Martz was let go by the 49ers at the end of last season.

Martz isn't in San Francisco this year. He's working for the NFL Network.

Hub does, or at least he did last time I saw him on that horrible Pro Football Weekly show of his. An earring looks stupid on just about any guy, but on a man with horseshoe head it's horrible.

I heard him talk about it once, it has something to do with his daughter.

I was attempting to be clever. My success is questionable.

That's pretty rare for you, raw :)

I'll chalk it up to Turkey on the brain.

Some of the best offenses in the league can't really run the ball either. New England's middle of the pack at it. Indy, San Diego, Arizona, and Houston are about as bad as the Bears at it. Martz doesn't really thrill me either but it's not because he's pass happy. Many good offenses are.

I know it's wrong to shoot low, but he is better than Turner. And he's at least seen what good quarterbacking looks like.

We're not getting rid of Lovie, and therefore, we're not getting a big time proven offensive guy. Therefore, I'll take Martz. At least he has some creativity and has won in the past. I'd love to see a good aggressive passing offense with receivers getting yards after the catch. I'd love to see anything other than Ron Turner.

If he doesn't work out in 2010, then get rid of both him and Lovie next year.

Yeah, I'm not big on Martz but I think he makes a certain amount of sense given the situation. Jay will just have to deal with the possibility of 3 OCs in as many years because keeping Turner is NOT acceptable no matter what.

Do you think that these teams could run the ball, they are just too busy passing it to really give the backs the carries?

Concerning Martz, I don't think it would work out. Doesn't he like to be in absolute control and that is why he left San Francisco? Plus, the Bears don't need a new OC as much as new players. They need a big possession receiver and nearly an entirely new line.

No, I think they need an OC more than anything.

So easy to blame an offensive line. It seems as if we've been saying they need an offensive line forever. So many players have cycles through this offensive line. For that matter, QB's have cycled through this team as well. Yet the result is the same. A pathetic offense that constantly has to covert 3rd and long. Defensive getting to the QB. Runs right into 5 defenders. One constant is Ron Turner.

Yeah, we've seen defenders flat out beat our offensive lineman. But I think the coaching staff and the offensive scheme plays a big role. You can't block 3 men at once, no matter how good you are. You can't block for a runner going straight into 5 defenders who happen to be at the right place at the right time, all the time. You can't block for a QB who has to execute perfect passes for 5 yard gains to a double covered receiver.

Ron Turner has to go. I blame him. And the Colts and Patriots can run the ball because its a lot easier to run the ball when you have a competent passing offense, which the Bears don't have.

Posted
I can't stand Turner, but you're placing WAY too much of this on him. Replacing with the best OC in the world won't magically fix an OL this shitty or a group of receivers this average at best. There needs to be a new OC in tandem with a reliable, more capable receiver added and improving a couple spots in the OL if the Bears truly want to maximize the quarterback they have now.

Even thought it would hurt the Packers for the Bears to win this game, I would love to see the Vikings lose this game at home.

I don't understand why. The Bears are out of it. You actually give them a shot at the WC?
