Bengals trying to choke this thing away.

The Raiders scored to tie the game and the Bengals fumbled the kickoff with 30 seconds left.

Yeah, the receiver I wanted made a huge play in crunch time in spite of being a rookie and having a marginal QB.

Remember when everyone said Favre would make the Vikings worse?

No.

No, but Favre is only an upgrade over Safe/Tavaris is name/reputation only. Favre was a great player, but I just don't see him improving the Vikes at that much. He won't hurt, but after watching last with the Jets, it's clear he doesn't have much left in the tank.

Favre's going to be playing next season with a giant fork sticking out of his back. The guy is washed out. Jackson and Sage might not be very good, but quite frankly, I don't think Favre would be much of an upgrade over them talent-wise. The baggage he'll bring with him will only hurt the Vikings.

As a Bears fan, I'm praying he goes to the Vikings.

Jay Cutler's a much better quarterback than Favre is right now. Don't let your Favre love get to your brain that much
.

ect....

Oh, by everyone I thought you meant more than three people. There were also lots of people that thought the Brettsiah would save the Vikings. There were others(like me) that thought he would be an improvement, but not by much. He has clearly helped the team a lot, but it's not like everyone expected him to ruin the Vikings.

If you're talking about this board he wasn't far off. The Bears fans were almost unanimous. Most thought he sucked and talked about how great it would be to watch him throw picks to the Bears. The others thought it wouldn't be an upgrade. There were a few in the minority that thought it would be a slight upgrade.

Caballo and I were arguing the same points in every discussion. Except he thought Favre would be even better than I did and I think I'm the only Vikings fan on here.

Once I saw Favre throw the ball and realized his arm was still strong, I became concerned and said so on here.

Have to do it because of all the back and forth all offseason. And it might not last if Favre gets hurt soon.

Favre- 69.7%

Cutler- 61.7%

Yards per attempt

Favre-8.0

Cutler- 6.6

TD/INT

Favre- 21/3

Cutler 15/18

QB Rating

Favre- 112.1

Cutler- 74.5

Cutler is throwing for 4 yards more per game on 7 more attempts per game. Favre has been sacked once more than Jay.

Favre has been really good. I'm interested to see if he tails off at all in the second half of the year.

None of those quotes say he'll make the Vikings worse. Just that he won't be that huge an upgrade. He has been a huge upgrade, but I don't remember all that many people (if any) saying he would clearly make them a worse team.

Big game tonight for the Titans. Gotta keep winning to keep the slim playoff hopes alive and a win over Houston would pull us to within a game of them.

The Ravens and Jets losing both put us closer to the playoff picture (assuming a win tonight).

Back from the Cowboys game. That had to be the ugliest 60 minutes of football I've ever witnessed.

They better wake up fast, or it's going to be a long December/January with games @ NYG, @ NO, @ Wash, and San Diego/Philly at home.

When will the Lions stop getting the Thanksgiving game every year? Why should we have to watch bad football every Thanksgiving? They play two games on Thanksgiving...let the 4 teams that got first week playoff byes the previous season have these games. You still might get crappy games because teams fall and rise so fast in the NFL, but I think you'd stand a better chance than praying the Lions finally get it figured out.

EDIT: Oh...there's three games. I don't know how you determine the third game, but still...

They get it because they put the effort into doing it, no? It doesn't really bother me. Watching all three games uninterrupted is basically impossible and when Thanksgiving is at the in-laws, far less acceptable than at my family's. So the Lions game provides a decent opportunity to turn away from the TV and talk to people, which in turn makes you look like such a great guy to forego some of your precious football time for things like family. Also, it's great for napping.

Yeah, I don't care if the Lions get the Thanksgiving game. In the parity of today's league it'd be silly to get rid of them having it because in theory they can be good any given year.

I went over to NFL.com to see if there was any news on Stafford's sholder but found only that the Lions' are saying that x-rays are negative. I did find this in the post game notes:

The Browns won in Detroit for the first time since Sept. 9, 1983.

Somebody forgot to remove a line from something they had written before the game ended.

Most weeks there are 16 games in the NFL season. The goal is to be one of the 16 winners. If you do that enough, you get a 17th game. That is ultimately the goal. The ugly win yesterday was just as important as the good win at Philly two weeks ago. Also, the players on the team haven't changed.

While Dallas may look to have issues, and yes, they do, there is still a chance to fix the things that ail this team.

I'd rather have an ugly win than lose a game. The Cowboys are still a 7-3 team and lead their division. Surely, the Vikings and Saints look to be the class of the conference, but that's meaningless at this point.

Now, granted those teams are playing at a much higher level than this Cowboys team. Those teams look like they have the conference wrapped up and will be meeting in the conference championship.

Two years ago, after week 11, that would have been the Cowboys and the Packers. Both teams were rolling with only 1 loss. In week, ten the Cowboys had just finished thrashing the eventual Superbowl champion Giants in their own stadium. The Giants in week eleven had an ugly win against a very bad Detroit Lions team and even followed that with a very bad defeat in week 13 against the Vikings. No one was thinking Giants and Superbowl at the end of November 2007. They put it together in late Decemeber and after beating the Cowboys in the playoffs, went on a roll.

Last year, in week 11 Arizona had just come off an ugly win versus a 2-8 Seattle team. They were 7-3 at the team. They would go on to lose to the Giants in week 12 and the Eagles in week 13 to drop them to 7-5. Nothing about that team screamed Superbowl, but they made it there last year.

It was week 11 last year, that the Eagles tied the then hapless Bengals and McNabb admitted he didn't know a game could end in a tie. They sat 5-4-1 then and looked anything but a playoff team. In fact, not only did they have to beat Dallas in the last game last year to get there, they needed help from a variety of scenarios. Yet, once all that fell into place, they put together a run that put them in the NFC championship game.

So, what is my point? First, there is still time for the Cowboys to right this ship. I know the Cowboys' recent December struggles have left a lot of people skeptical, but just as Cub fans will say the past 100 years mean nothing to current teams, those struggles mean little to this team. But just because a team doesn't look like Superbowl caliber in week 11, does not mean they won't be there in January.

Is there a lot this team needs to work on? Hell yes.

The positives are there. Ugly win or not, the Cowboys still control our destiny. If we go 4-2 over the next six games, we're in the playoffs. I have no doubt of that. 3-3 or 2-4 might even get us there, though I hope we don't stumble in that way. I have little doubt that after the first round, regardless of how we get there, we're going to have to do it on the road. As daunting as that sounds, it's been done before. The past 2 years have shown us that.

So yes the offense looks poor. I'm hoping the last two weeks stimulate this team to realize that while they have a great opportunity, they have to get it straightened out. It's not an easy road. In the past, it may have been too easy. And that led to December complacency.

I think the talent is there on the Cowboys to go on a run. They have a tough final six. Win four of them, they will definitely play a 17th game. Win three, it's ify. Only winning two is a 9-7 finish and the Boys will need help.
