Wow. NE just blew a 17-point fourth quarter lead.

Love going for it there. I think the chances of stopping Manning with 2 minutes and a timeout are less than your chances of converting 4th and 2.

Noway you can risk going for it right there, noway in hell

This isn't a video game. Punt the ball.

When you have one of the best offenses in history playing a bad defense that you have shredded all game long and the alternative is punting to one of the best offenses in history (they both are) when your defense has gotten shredded all game you should go for it. Is it unconventional and thus most will jump on you if it fails, yes but it was the right call. I would rather trust my offense to get 2 yards than my defense to stop Peyton in a 2 minute.

I hardley would call the 2009 Pats one of the best offenses in history

Yep. The Patriots make those two yards 80% of the time and that basically ends the game. They stop the Colts with that much time less often

I live in an alternate universe where I just saw Manning easily cut the Patriots defense up and go 60 yards to score a td with all the time left on the clock. Everyone is wondering why the Pats didn't use their amazing offense to get those two yards that would have ended the game. What happened in yours?

I'm all for going for it in unconventional, yet smart, spots. However, I don't think you can basically hand Peyton Manning a touchdown there. Belichick decided to decide the game on that play - either his offense gets it and and the Pats win, or his offense doesn't get it and the Colts (almost certainly) win.

That deep in your own territory, you have to punt and hope your defensive playmakers can make a play.

Going is absolutely correct. 4th and 2 in the middle of the field has like a 60% conversion rate, probably higher for the Pats. You get that and the game is nearly over. You guys really think the difference between 30 yards and 70 yards for Manning in a 2 minute drill is 60%? Not a chance.
