That guy is really stupid. For one he calculates the results and hey going for it was the better choice. Then he says football is played on the field as if saying playing the percentages is stupid. Umm yeah you go ahead and do what makes you more likely to lose and I'll go with what's more likely to win. Plus going for it is saying my offense can beat your defense i.e. he was deciding the game on the field.

I don't think the calculator was meant to be serious. For one thing, it allows the individual to choose their own odds. I could have made the decision to go for it grossly wrong and then come over here and say "I IS RIGHT !!!1!! YOUZ RONG!!!1!" Same with you.

to counter that analysis, i have this piece on nfl.com, which provides absolutely no statistical evidence to back up the writer's assertion that the decision was a massive blunder. though he does say that the colts defense felt disrespected, which i'm sure had a lot to do with the outcome of the play.

When I watched that play, the thing that came to my mind was "what are the chances the Bears would have the guts to play up on the LOS and blow that thing up?"

 

And I came up with: 0 percent chance.

Check that. The Bears would have been down 35 points at that juncture, so it's moot.

there are reasonable arguments against the decision that belichick made - saying that the call was arrogant is an absolutely terrible one, so i'm not shocked that a lot of sportswriters are saying it.
