Reports are Harang, Arroyo, Phillips, Cordero, and maybe even Votto could be on the move to keep payroll down. I'd be interested in Phillips, Cordero, and Harang if the asking price wasn't crazy. I remember Votto coming up and playing in the OF for a while, likely a pipe dream, but it would be great to get him and play in RF for this year and then move him to 1B next year when Lee leaves.

As you said, Votto is really unlikely. Even so, he's the type of player I'd be more than willing to move Castro and Vitters for. As long as he's recovered from last year, he looks like he's going to be an elite hitter.

My opinion is that Votto is very unlikely to be traded, and if somehow traded, even less likely to be traded to a division rival. Man it must suck to be a Reds fan. All that talk about the future, and now that the future is all up there, they might dismantle the team.

If the Reds unload like the rumors say, it will be a bad move as this team is just pitching away from being a contender.

based on what? the reds offense has been crap the last 2 seasons, and that's with a ballpark helping them

If the Reds trade Votto, they have no business being a major league team. As for the rest, Id gladly take Phillips, but I doubt theyd send him to a division rival for anything short of a kings ransom in prosopects. Harang would be interesting to see if Rothschild could fix him, but if its afire sale, they likely want someone to pickl up a big chunk of his contract.

The Reds have a lot of young talent, I'm afraid of them over the next couple years.

That's been the general sentiment for a couple years now, no?

That's what I have thought, they have developed enough players internally that they should be a competitive team if they would have allocated resources better and made smarter moves trying to bring in veterans to build a supporting cast.

Are we this delusional when it comes to trades? Some of those trades like "Pie and a prospect or two for Harang and Votto" are so obscenely ridiculous it almost seems like they're intentionally being absurd. I'm also a big fan of Guthrie, Luke Scott and a prospect for Harang, Rolen and Votto. If I'm the Reds, I'm not moving Votto for anything short of two of Matsuz, Tillman, Erbe and someone like Nolan Reimold.

Brandon Phillips NL road OPS since he's been with the Reds:

06 - .701

07 - .821

08 - .699

09 - .713

07 was when he went 30-30, his best year in his career thus far, a monumental year in which he achieved a career high .331 OBP and an OPS+ of 105. Since he's been a regular with the Reds is OPS+ is 97

His defense has also gradually gotten significantly worse each year since 2007

No thanks to Brandon Phillips

Why are Red's fans not clamoring for Dusty and Walt's heads? Would a team really want Dusty in charge of a youth movement? I think this team was close to being good a couple of years ago and have been completely driven into the river. I would be asking to be traded if I was Harang, Phillips and Votto.

This is the last year of Dusty's contract. I'm sure they'll let him play it out or replace him midway through the season if there's no results. I wouldn't fault Jockety at all for much. He was dealt a crappy hand. They hired Dusty before they hired him, I'm sure he probably would've preferred someone different.

"Oh God, no" - the Reds GM response to trading Joey Votto.

lol

no doubt...if Votto stays healthy and has all of his *issues* in check next season he will put up numbers to rival the great Albert Pujols me thinks...

Yeah, I was debating between the Brandon Phillips is horribly overrated post or my standard I'm scared of the Reds post. I think I made the wrong call. I'd rather run Fontenot/Baker out there.

Why does anybody assume that Rothschild can fix Harang? Why not assume that Bryan Price can fix Harang? Major League coaches are totally overrated (even though I know and really, really like Bryan Price).
