Of course I will, but it's going to be really hard to root for them next year knowing that a successful season will = Hendry sticking around.

I guess the only "good" thing that could possibly come out of this is now Hendry has a little more money and will use it for a half way decent player like Orlando Hudson, Felipe Lopez, or take a flyer (for a relatively low price and years) on a pitcher like Sheets, Bedard, or Duchscherer. But he will probably end up doubling Byrd's contract and/or sign Pods.

Sounds terrible but Id rather Silva just tear up his arm and we pay him that outrageous contract not to pitch sooner then see him get any starts in a Cubs uniform.

Trade makes sense. A buffoon trading a buffoon for a bigger buffoon. The view from Rotowold.

Mariners acquired OF Milton Bradley from the Cubs for RHP Carlos Silva.

Chalk up another victory for Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik. Bradley didn't do much hitting this season in Chicago and had his fair share of battles with the media, but he's just one year removed from a career-best .321/.436/.563 batting line. We're betting he sees a slight resurgence in Seattle, where the media is looser and the fans are friendlier. He will man left field at Safeco and is likely to find time at designated hitter as well. Cubs getting $9M from M's in Silva swap

According to the Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan, the Cubs will receive $9 million from the Mariners to cover part of Carlos Silva's remaining salary.

Silva is owed $24 million over the next two seasons and Mitlon Bradley is owed $21 million, so the Cubs are basically saving $6 million in the deal. Of course, that doesn't make up for the fact that Chicago is getting by far the worse player. Silva posted an 8.60 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 30 innings this past season and a 6.46 ERA over 153 1/3 innings in 2008. Bradley batted a disappointing .257/.378/.397 in 2009 with Chicago but is only one year removed from a career-best .321/.436/.563 batting line. Dec. 18 - 1:48 pm et

I have a feeling they'll sign Capps and Byrd. I'd prefer they sign Lopez or Hudson

since he signed with the mariners:

5-18, 6.81 ERA, 1.617 WHIP

254 hits, 139 ER in 183 2/3 innings

i just puked.

In one of the better pitching parks to boot.

With a good 3/4 of an IF defense.

This whole situation is a mess, but did anyone really expect it to turn out any better than what it did?

I expected to not be paying 7.5M a year to the worst player in the majors.

There is zero chance that Hendry has the money to sign Byrd and Capps. And Hendry just took a big dump on Bradley with this trade, and Bradley shares the same agent as Byrd. It's probably going to be Pods and Capps.

I can't possibly hate this any more than I do right now.

I can just see a phone call being made from Hendry to Byrd:

"Hey Marlon, hows it going? Oh man I got some good news for you. Do me a favor and don't sign that contract I faxed you yet, I got $6 million more to throw on there!"

08:$7M, 09:$11M, 10:$11.5M, 11:$11.5M, 12:$12M mutual option ($2M buyout)

Silva is owed $23m over the next 2 years, and an additional $2m for the 2012 buyout, assuming they don't pick up the option. That's $25m total. Bradley is owed $21, a difference of $4m. If the Cubs got $9m, they are "saving" $5m over the course of 2 years, although they are still paying $16m for a nearly worthless player.

I just pulled up Silva's career numbers, looking for an insane season he must have had in order to pull a contract like he has...I guess it must have been that 06' season where he hit 38 home runs! And we thought Big Z could use the stick... Oh never mind! He ALLOWED 38 home runs on 06'. =D>

If this was the best option, I'd rather have told Uncle Milty to sit his butt at home and continued to pay him.

Way to be Jimbo...Enjoy your season tickets to the games this year.

Given the history of this team and the GM, why on earth would you expect that?

kevin kennedy on xm radio read my facebook comment, and somehow he didn't agree with me that carlos silva is the worst pitcher in baseball. he's now my enemy.

I realize it is by no means scientific and as bad of a sample size problem as this message board, but the comments on the facebook announcement were 105-21 thinking this was a great deal. Including one guy that think Silva a 4/$48 was reasonable.

There's time I hate my fellow Cub fans, not you guys, the "normal" ones. It's sad that there are people that think Hendry is a genius for making this trade.

Do you really think the bolded matters? I highly doubt it.

This couldn't have happened last week before Cameron signed?

And seriously, let's get on that "Silva released" press release.

From what I heard the Mariners had no interest in taking Bradley until the Lee trade came about. Now they are more willing to take him aboard since they expect him to be another piece to help them contend. If that makes sense.

Not a great trade, but can we at least give Silva a chance on the Cubs? Maybe he'll be different with Rothschild as pitching coach and the NL.
