  1. I just pulled up Silva's career numbers, looking for an insane season he must have had in order to pull a contract like he has...I guess it must have been that 06' season where he hit 38 home runs! And we thought Big Z could use the stick... Oh never mind! He ALLOWED 38 home runs on 06'. =D> If this was the best option, I'd rather have told Uncle Milty to sit his butt at home and continued to pay him. Way to be Jimbo...Enjoy your season tickets to the games this year.
  2. I think the best thing they could do is to decide to keep Bradley, then immediately get the PR wheels turning and try to mend fences between Bradley and the fans. Really! That clown hates us (Cubs fans) and the city of Chicago. Screw him! I have a disdain for him like no other. In fact, I have never hated another player more in my time of watching professional sports. The time he hit a home run and then mocked the cheering fans, as to say, "keeping talking" makes my blood boil. I would take another hundred years of losing just to see this clown not wearing a Cubs uniform ever again. (ok, maybe that's a bit extreme) But none the less, Bradley is a clueless, joke of a human being that needs to be removed from this team at ANY cost! Point blank! I don't care if he puts up 01' Barry Bonds like numbers, this team won't win with him. Thankfully the people that don't mind keeping him, aren't the people making decisions for the Cubs this year. He will be gone!
  3. Finally! What an extremely drawn out process... Anyone know the date the Cubs were put up for sale? Seems like the original target date of sale was around the beginning of the 08' season? Now c'mon Ricketts family, make Cubs fans forget about the losing history and make fans of other teams wish they were Cubs fans.
  4. Ozzie Gullien and Kenny Williams =D>
  5. I have a bad arm so typing a two page rant like I want to won't happen so I'll just reply here. (until my arm heals) This team makes me sick! I posted before the season started that I dislike what Jimboy did in the off season. Now, I hate the moves he made. I hope once the ownership issue is resolved, whatever year that is, the Ricketts family looks at what Jimboy has done to his investment and kicks him to the curb. Then clean house with the coaching staff. Because Lou once had it, doesn't mean he still does. He can't even come out of the dugout without almost toppling over. I want a real pitching coach. The Marmol debacle is a joke and can be laid at the feet of Rothschild. Kevin Gregg...Never had it, never will. He is awful and MUST go! Do anything you can to move Soriano (won't happen) and Bradley (won't happen) Hendry you are STUPID!!!!!! Get rid of all 18 2nd baseman, except Blanco. His stick sucks, but he can play defense. I really don't care what they do, just fire Hendry and Gregg. PLEASE!!!!!!
  6. With Aram out and Fontenot stinking it up I'd say go get him. When Aram returns, DeRosa can go to 2nd.
  7. I'll go with what seems to be a consensus in deleting "DP" Lee and "The Human Screw" Fukudome and go a little different and also nominate the guy who, in one off season, traded away Mark DeRosa, signed Paul Bako and didn't re-sign Hank White when the difference was $25,000, and signed an oft-injured, head case to a 3 year 30 million dollar deal. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling about this upcoming season. I could see this whole thing coming apart very quick.
  8. I'm still baffled how these guys, who either sucked as a player or were fired as a coach or GM can get a gig on TV or on the radio and now they are freaking geniuses. Phillips was/is a bum, he got the boot in NY, but he's gonna speculate on something like this. C'mon! And there are plenty of them out there. Another one I can't stand, different sport, is Doug Gottlieb. To hear him talk you would think he had the skills of Jordan on the court. Phillips...Gottlieb....Just, shut, up!
  9. Sure would have been nice to actually get to watch the freaking game! Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Great job Z!
  10. From the looks of this video he has one hell of a curve ball. Could have led to the injuries I guess.
  11. That was pretty good...Didn't like that he had Ryne stepping out and he should have slammed the bat down after the Alou pop out. Loved the Hawk stare after the swing and miss. Also forgot to knock of his hat after the Sarge swing. The Alou and "old" Mark Grace were great.
  12. Thanks for the help.
  13. After the draft I had two guys on the DL so I picked up two replacement players, now both guys are off the DL and I'm trying to decide who I should drop. Here is my roster C-Victor Martinez 1B-Todd Helton 2B-Plácido Polanco SS-Jhonny Peralta 3B-Ryan Braun OF-Corey Hart OF-Matt Kemp OF-Hideki Matsui UTL-Joe Mauer BN-Rickie Weeks BN-Willy Taveras BN-Rocco Baldelli SP-Johan Santana SP-John Smoltz RP-Rafael Soriano RP-Eric Gagne P-Pedro Martínez P-Francisco Liriano P-Rich Harden BN-Randy Johnson BN-Barry Zito BN-Bob Howry BN-BJ Ryan BN-Jeremy Accardo Initially my team had Mike Napoli, I dropped him and picked up Ryan (more saves). Ryan and Baldelli were on the DL, so I picked up Howry (thinking he might get the closer role) and Accardo (in case Ryan wasn't ready for the start of the season). Ryan and Baldelli have been removed from the DL and before I can make any roster changes I have to drop two players. (I discovered this when I tried to drop Zito for Phil Hughes) The league is a Yahoo, head to head, 5x5, and it was computer drafted with pre-ranked players (thanks to Meph :D ) My questions are 1) Which two players should I drop so I can take Ryan and Baldelli off the DL? 2) Should I drop a third player to acquire Hughes? and of course the obligatory... 3) What do you think of my team? The list of players I have considered dropping are (but not limited to) Baldelli (I think this could be his year) Accardo (concerned about Ryan's health) Howry (might still win closers role) Zito (he got pounded at least once this spring training, but???) Thanks in advance
  14. <----Rian Grace Butler, 20 months (12 months in the pic though). Every time I see your avatar I wonder how you did that with the color and black and white. Very nice.
  15. IIRC that 1983 Reggie Smith card had some extra value at one point just because Ryne was in it. I started a small Ryno card collection for my daughter around the time she was born in 05'. My wife allowed me the honor of giving my daughter her middle name, "Ryne". :yahoo: That would make her by far and away my most prized Ryne possession. (no offense to my all time favorite Cub)
  16. To quote the Patriots...And 1
  17. it's because Wrigley has the nicest looking background for highlights. seriously. I noticed this when I was younger, much younger, like 6 to 11 years old that a lot of baseball card photos were taken at Wrigley. I haven't bought a baseball card in more than 20 years so I don't know if it's still this way. But I think you are exactly right.
  18. 78??? I'm kinda scared, it looks like "six fingers" with his legs all twisted and that big ol' butt. Edit: Nevermind
  19. If it was guaranteed Pie could put up numbers like this, this year, I'd say forget any trade or acquiring a platoon and let the kid play everyday.
  20. I personally don't have an issue with the ads around the park, I think they do add a nostalgic look. I think the only reason Wrigley doesn't have more advertising is due to a lack of space, that is until they remove the ivy. They have added the Under Armor ads to the doors in the outfield and the Bud Light sign on the outside, and even sold naming rights for the dugouts. (with signage of course) I have never visited Fenway, but for me it doesn't get any better than Wrigley. Hell, I would show up at Wrigley on a warm summer day, to drink beer, eat peanuts and check out the scenery, even if there wasn't a ballgame.
  21. You didn't get the memo?
  22. Prior's last comment to the Chicago Cubs organization and their fans... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/photo;_ylt=AptnJ7gtSuCMUQM1Nk157l8V0bYF?slug=3ded50ab1b6b43d9be4080a7b1ad3199.padres_prior_baseball_cali101&prov=ap Right back at ya' babe!!!
  23. ottawacubbie, if you were on Around The Horn, with all those numbers, Reali would have given you about 30 points for that round. =D>
