Remember all the jokes about Hendry overpaying middle relievers? He trumped them all: The worst middle reliever in baseball for 2 year/$15 million deal.

No one let Bill Bavasi know there's a job opening up soon.

Serious question: When was the last time the Cubs had a pitcher as bad as Carlos Silva on the roster?

The day before David Patton went on the DL. Or maybe the last day Jeff Samardzija was listed on the roster.

The acquisition Carlos Silva is inconsequential, if I heard it correctly, the Mariners took on Bradley' contract and gave the Cubs 9 million, that's the key.

No, that is not the key, because the Cubs lost a player that can be servicable and acquired a player who sucks, but are still playing a large sum of money.

You also have to factor in the marginal cost in lost production compared to Silva's ERA that looks like Zambrano's K/9.

I don't need to lay off the hyperbole. I'm pissed; Ryan Theriot should not be a starting MI for this team. Him being there just epitomizes how bad the Cubs' farm system had been for so long and how poorly this team has been run.

No sense in getting bent out of shape over something you had to have seen coming for the last four months. This is all crying over spilled milk. If anyone actually thinks the Cubs have ANY chance of winning the World Series in the next three years, you're sadly mistaken. I've come to terms with this, so it doesn't hurt anymore. When it gets this bad you just can't allow yourself to become so emotionally invested. It's simply not worth it.

Oh God, shut up with the baseball robot garbage.

am i a milton hater? if you describe me as one who was against this signing from the start, wanted him to do well since he was signed, and turned on him when it was clear he was not fitting the role he was perceived to have been signed for (and didn't own not doing well) then yes, i will proudly wear the label as a hater.

when a player publicly states in no certain terms he does not enjoy playing for the team he's playing for at home, then it doesn't matter what you try to do. milton had to go because milton had taken the reasonable reactions of a few (and i mean a few) people, blown them up to exponential proportions and started trashing the fans. a pr disaster. the first sign of a player quickly being shown the door whether by trade or outright release is starting to bash the fans and in turn not retracting and apologizing profusely immediately afterwards. milton was given a much much longer leash than most other players would get in their first year with a new team. you can't tell me that the cubs tried their best to make it work for as long as they could.

if the player does not want to play here, then the player does not want to play here. i believe that milton tried to speed his departure out of town as much as hendry tried to accomodate him after the suspension.

so with reguards to this thankfully ended milton bradley experiment, i prefer a trade rather than an outright release. if he is going to get paid either way, i would rather have another player back than just cutting ties. we really don't know what is going to happen with silva once he gets here or the season starts. players have gotten better seemingly just from a change of venue (jim edmonds). they also have gotten worse (milton bradley). so from that standpoint, i am going to reserve judgement until i have seen him for a month or so. he may be a gem that needed polishing. he may turn out to be a bum. the thing is no one knows yet.

i imagine that milton would be happier in seattle than in the third largest media market where the team has a national fanbase shown on national television at the least around 81 times a year covered by a phalanx of reporters. his next blowup should occur after two months in the season instead of a few weeks in chicago.

Not a great trade, but can we at least give Silva a chance on the Cubs? Maybe he'll be different with Rothschild as pitching coach and the NL.

silva doesn't even deserve a chance. he's terrible.

plus, when has Rothschild ever been a miracle worker? If we had Dave Duncan I might not be freaking out, but we don't, and I am.

This is kind of ridiculous. The only reason you could see this coming is because people know Jim Hendry is a bad GM motivated by nonsensical tangents. That doesn't change the fact that it never had to happen and was a bad move. Telling a fan of a team to not be upset when their team makes a bad move because they should have anticipated the bad move makes no more sense than actually being a fan in the first place. If you are a fan, it makes perfect sense to be upset.

"Didn't own not doing well?"

Are you [expletive] kidding me? He did the exact opposite of that.

And Carlos Silva is not a "gem that needs polishing." Look at his numbers for 2 seconds before posting that. We don't need to wait and see anything because he's a horrible, horrible pitcher.

And they also gave us back a bad contract on a player that is a downgrade from Bradley. Silva sucks.

As mentioned by others is it worth getting rid of Bradley, downgrading your pitching staff and wasting a roster spot for 6 million dollars?

Hendry should have told those babies in the clubhouse to man up and just deal with the guy, the same way the Giants players had to deal with Bonds all those years. If anything Hendry could have tried trading Bradley again midseason before the deadline. He may still not have gotten much for him, but he probably would have gotten a better deal than this one.

Jim Edmonds was a good player who had one last hurrah in him. Carlos Silvia sucks.

And your entire post was incredibly stupid.

You know how DodgerBlues' transactions board is called "Pedro for Delino?" Well, can we change the name of this board to "Bradley for Silva?"

Yes, please.

The best thing is that in addition to being the worst player in the majors, Silva is an [expletive] who blamed everyone else on the Mariners when things started to go wrong.

UH-OH RED FLAGS HE'S GOING TO POISION THE CUBS' WELL WATER AND THEN THEY WILL LOSE.

there's a complete difference between a borderline hall of famer vs. a pitcher who has been terrible every year except one, and in that one year he was just ok.

Ouch, sorry guys.

The first ever Brewer game I went to, Carlos Silva pitched a 76, 76 pitch complete game. Luis Rodriguez hit his first career home run, another reason why im glad that stupid dome is gone.

As a fan of the Chicago Cubs, I don't give a [expletive] what any player thinks of fans of the Chicago Cubs.

At least I can feel I have something in common with a player who hates Cubs fans.

This is definitely true.

Rich Harden and Milton Bradley came to the Cubs with giant red neon signs pointing out their flaws, both of them displayed those flaws as expected. Jim Hendry was giddy to acquire both and just as motivated to get rid of both.

"We have a tight knit clubhouse that can handle a malcontent".

rofl.

Hey if this tight knit clubhouse can handle a malcontent, why did we have to trade away Bradley. Oh I get it, we're one of those ball clubs who can handle a malcontent, so long as we don't actually have one on the team.
