Gordon is better than this. That said, tt really boggles my mind how Dumars allowed the Pistons to get this screwed up so quickly. I'm not going to pretend I'm a better judge of talent then him, but pretty much every move he's made over the last 2 years has been the wrong one with 1-2 somewhat notable exceptions. He was threatening for years to break up their core and shake things up, and when he finally did, he traded their best player and "glue" to their team. Now obviously I think Dumars was aware that Billups was his best player and had the biggest trade value. And I don't criticize the decision to go for cap space, even if the FA market last offseason looked average at best. But I don't think Dumars fully understood the impact Billups had in running his team. And I see where he was coming from trying to get AI for the season. If he's AI, that's a benefit for this season, but he was building for next season. Now AI blew up in his face, Stuckey I don't think made as big of a leap as he expected and actually looked like he was a rather inefficient scoring option, not one that fit into Hamilton/Prince/Wallace. Wallace regressed and stopped caring, AI was sent home and the result was a 4 game sweep in the first round.

So the offseason comes around and Dumars got what he wanted. He had the most cap space out there to rebuild his team around Rip and Prince. But who was really out there? No doubt Dumars was probably hoping that Boozer was going to be available, but he wasn't. Look I'm not an NBA GM, and I don't know what sitting on your money for an offseason does, or whatever. But I can guarantee you that signing Gordon and Charlie V. was not a great idea. I mean how could you imagine that to ever be a good idea? Look at how the team is built now:

Stuckey - Needs the ball/needs to take shots

Gordon - Volume scorer/needs someone to set him up for much of his scoring/defensive liability

Hamilton - Better all around player than Gordon, plays same position, probably doesn't score as well but still above average

Prince - Is he nearly as effective on D as a SF without the Wallace Bros down low to protect the paint? I don't watch enough Pistons games to be certain. Good role player, but is seemingly wasted on a team like this

Bynum - Decent player, but he's your distributor?

Villenueva - Probably a somewhat useful player, but not a very good defender and has been linked with effort issues in the past. He's worth a 5 year deal? Ugh..

And that's basically what the Pistons are building with? Jerebeko was a nice pick but I don't see him being any sort of star. What can Dumars do at this point? Prince and Hamilton are really the only leverage he has to improve the team over the coming years, but their trade value has probably decreased over the last couple of years. I just don't see how they can be competitive over the next 5 seasons without striking lottery gold (which very well may happen).

It was pretty ridiculous for Dumars to waste all of his cap space on Gordon and Villanueva the year before the most-pursued free agent class in the history of the game.

I know he's won a title there and has made several ECF appearances, but those moves were awful.

Here's hoping they continue to suck.

At least he drafted Darko over Carmelo, Bosh and Wade.

lol, there's a better chance that bosh, lebron and wade all died in a 3-hummer pile up outside of the all-star game this year than that one of them would give a thought to moving to detroit, anyway

Yeah but their strategy was flawed in that they intended to be decent by signing Gordon and Villanueva. Obviously that team wasn't going to be a real contender even if the signings went great. Better off on holding on to the space and going into true tank mode. I guess the silver lining is that they've been bad enough to legitimately hope for getting a star in the draft but now they've got cap space to overpay Rudy Gay with.

a gay/villanueva frontcourt may be the most uninterested in the league

Right, but is it really a worse option than what they currently have right now? They were interested in trying to trade for Boozer in this past offseason. Ending up with like the tenth best FA in this class is still better than getting two of the best FA's in last year's class.

Everyone be cheering for the Warriors today. A Warriors win could be huge and would probably send Toronto into a 4 game slide going into our game against them.

We get Milwaukee without Bogut and Cleveland, followed by NJ.

Even with the likely chance that Toronto gets the W, we could still be tied with them going into that game if we take care of business against Milwaukee. A loss for Toronto would just make things better.

he'll get in posthumously. no one is going to vote him in while they're afraid he's going to show up in a dress, coked out of his mind.

Toronto steals the ball while the Warriors try to inbound it and Bosh blows the game winning layup at the buzzer. He must really want to play for Chicago.

Awesome.

I think the Raps are about to go on a 4 game skid (including tonight's game).

That will leave them at 38-41 heading into the game against us, and we should be at least 38-41, but could be 39-40. If we then beat them, we'd have a two game lead with two games remaining. They have the tie breaker, but we'd just have to win one of our last two against two playoff bound teams.

The Bulls move into a tie for 8th if they beat Milwaukee and the Cavs beat Toronto. It looks pretty good right now.

That speech would be epic.

Hi, I'm the Bulls and are fighting for a playoff spot

*outscores opponent by 13 in first quarter*

*scores NINE POINTS IN THE SECOND QUARTER*

That was embarrassing last night but it looks like we still have a shot with Bosh being out indefinitely

It might be worse to go to the playoffs and get obliterated by LeBron & Co. than to just not go.

This wouldn't be the aging Celitics without their big man. It would be the actual favorite in the East, with the best player in the world playing at the peak of his prowress. A massacre.
