Packers next six games:

@ CLE

VS MIN

@ TB

VS DAL

VS SF

@ DET

We absolutely have to go at least 5-1 in that stretch because the schedule gets progressively tougher after that. If we go 5-1 in that stretch and win just 1 of 3 against the Ravens, Bears, and Steelers, we should be in pretty good shape. There is absolutely no excuse for not winning at least five games there.

I would say Minn, Dal, and SF are all as good or better than the Packers. Going 5-1 would be tremendous for you guys.

49ers enter the stretch that determines their season. Got @Hou, @Ind, Tenn, Chi, @GB and Jack. Got to get one of two on the road against Indy and Houston and then win at home. If we can do that we will be in good position to win the position. None of those six are going to be easy though. Tennessee is obviously down right now but they will likely be healthier when we play them and we can't really dominate their secondary unless Crabtree is able dominate instantly which I highly doubt.

We get all three of those opponents at home while the real easy part of that schedule are road games. I don't think Dallas is better than us at all. Minnesota is better than us, but we played a pretty brutal game a couple of weeks ago and they only beat us by a TD. I know you guys will have Gore back by then, but that's still a game we should win if we want to make the postseason.

I'll gladly take a split in the next two for the Vikings. At Pittsburgh and at Green Bay. 7-1 going into the bye would be tremendous. Especially when you come back with the Lions and Seahawks at home following the bye, then get the Bears at home.

If Winfield is out for a significant time it changes a lot.

We'll see how long Favre can keep this going before wearing down or getting hurt. He's third in the league in QB rating.

70% completions, 225 yards per game, 7.6 ypa, 12 TD to 2 INT.

Posted

Comparison through 6 games of the two top pick rookie QBs:

Sanchez: 52.1% completions/ 5:10 TD:INT/ 56.7 rating

Stafford: 56.8% completions/ 3:6 TD:INT/ 65.5 rating

Sanchez was getting the positive coverage the first few weeks, but the two have been pretty even so far.

Not sure how many people will care that much about this, but he is the longest tenured coach in the NFL:

Coaching is a big part of the problem, said the 86-year-old Adams, who made no promises about Jeff Fisher's future with the franchise beyond this season. Fisher, now in his 15th season at the helm of the Titans, is under contract through 2011.

"If we end up losing every game or don't look better, I'd have to look at that pretty hard, you know what I mean?'' Adams said during a telephone interview Sunday night. "The way it is going, I don't know if we'll win any games, and that is unheard of in the National Football League.

Eh, once in the entire history of the NFL is still kind of unheard of.

I agree with a lot of what he said though. Fisher for some reason is being incredibly stupid and stubborn. Put in Young and let him run a week of practice with the 1's so he has a fair chance. He might not do any better but you can't do any worse. I realize there have been a lot of drops but Collins is also missing open guys. By a mile sometimes too. Also if the team lacks confidence in the QB that can affect everything including drops. Plus Young can at least scramble a lot to keep the chains moving.

I really think you're putting too much of this on the quarterback. Collins hasn't been good this year, but the 0-6 record is 100% because of the entirety of the team. It's time to go with Vince Young, but I don't think him playing over Kerry would have resulted in any more wins - or probably any better stats. The team as a whole is just severely underachieving and no one position will change any of that.

The reason I agree that you make a change here is because playoff chances this year are basically zero. Put in Vince after the bye (which, if that was Fisher's thinking, I like it) when he has Jacksonville and Buffalo to start out with and see if he can be the quarterback of the future. If not, target one in the draft.

fisher is a great coach but maybe he's just reached the point where he's not getting through to the guys on that team any more. it just seems odd because they were very good last year and have collapsed now. i'm not a fan of making a change for the sake of making a change - there have been a lot of times when eagles fans wanted andy reid fired, but really, how many better coaches than him are out there - but the titans have to at least think about going in a different direction. still, if they do can fisher, they have to get a big name (shanahan, cowher, gruden) to replace him. i just don't think you can fire a coach that good and replace him with some generic O or D coordinator.

I think there's something to the notion that the message gets lost after a long time. They've had several years of mediocrity or worse under Fisher. With NFL rosters you can turn them over pretty quickly which means if you stick with a guy he can get a fresh set of ears listening to him, but that can be difficult. If you compare it with Cowher, I think the Steelers maintained much more success under him, avoided the really bad years, and they replaced him with a no-name.

I think more of a problem than Fisher is the veteran players adjusting to Chuck Cecil. He's not a huge departure scheme-wise than Schwartz, but there are some differences between the two. Different players in each case I realize, but the 2001 Titans had some big defensive struggles after the change was made going from Gregg Williams to Jim Schwartz - and the make-up of each team (very successful the year before, many veterans returning) were very similar.

That said, if the Titans win 2-3 games this year (a real possibility at this point), it's hard to argue that Fisher should stay on. I wouldn't necessarily be in favor of it, but I could fully understand the change.

Yeah, a good thing about making a coaching change this year is that there are some actual possible upgrades that could be made. Fisher is a great coach - one of the best in the NFL, in my opinion - but so are Shanahan, Gruden, Holmgren and Cowher. Considering Bud Adams is 86 and has never won a Super Bowl, I'd tend to think he'll focus on making a huge splash with one of them if he fires Fisher.

I agree its not just the QB. The secondary is crap right now which is mainly due to injuries although the change to man from zone hasn't worked either and Fisher should have demanded it be changed back. However, with all that said the team was in the first couple games and largely due to Collins choking in the 4th quarter came up short. After a couple of those games the teams confidence went all to hell and the team has essentially imploded. They need a spark and VY can be that by turning a crap play into 20 yards with his feet. I still think this team has the talent to be very good but they just need to get the confidence up.

We've always been a heavily man coverage defense under Schwartz. That was one of the big knocks against the Harper signing - people weren't sure he could play man defense after playing the Cover 2 for so long in Indy.

Receivers dropping 4-5 balls a game didn't help Collins at all. His highly publicized 13 straight incompletions in the Jets game included at least 3-4 drops on perfect passes - all or most for first downs.

It's been a team-wide breakdown and singling out Collins is unfair, in my opinion.
