Baylor's soph QB Robert Griffin is out for the year. Tough break for a program still trying to turn that corner.

Having been a Baylor student (transfered home to LSU after 2 yrs.) during their last bowl season, I'm really upset by this news. I was really starting to pay attention to them again and was looking for good things to come. Hope he comes back strong next year.

wow, i didnt hear that. that sucks for them, they were looking at a bowl game.

Yeah, that's really tough for him and them. Griffin's a nice player.

Wow that really sucks. He is a great athlete and was going to cause a lot of problems in the Big 12 South.

The worst possible thing for Illinois heading into this week's game against PSU was to have the Lions lose to Iowa. There's no doubt that they're going to come into Champaign focused and ready to take it to them this week. I'd be extremely shocked if that game is close and more than likely, Illinois will be blown out yet again.

SIU needs to take care of business against WIU this week and against Illinois St. for Homecoming next week before the big tilt against UNI in a couple of weeks.

Armando Allen is expected to be back and 100 percent for the Washington game. Jimmy Clausen is expected to play as well - Charlie didn't say whether Dayne Crist would see as much of the field, but I'd assume Jimmy will be much closer to full speed. Jimmy will get the entire bye week off to heal up completely.

The game comes down to Jake Locker, really. We simply can't let him beat us. Our offense can't beat themselves like USC did. ND should win, but it will be a close game.

Ball State is going to get clocked on Homecoming weekend by Toledo, but at least Kelly Page has a pulse at QB.

USC running back Stafon Johnson was severely hurt in a weight lifting accident today:

LA Times[/url]"]The senior from Dorsey High was lifting weights this morning when he apparently lost control of the bar and it landed on his neck. He was reportedly spitting up blood and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he is undergoing surgery, according to the USC website.

Chris Carlisle, USC's strength and conditioning coach, said such an accident was rare. "I've seen players have the bar slip and fall onto their chest, but never in my 25 years of coaching have I heard of someone dropping a bar on their throat," the coach said.

Carlisle, who was within feet of Johnson when the accident occurred, said an assistant strength and conditioning coach was acting as a "spotter" for the player.

Sounds horrible.

I bet this is just another classic prank pulled by Pete Carroll.

Dew, what are your thoughts on the game this weekend? Auburn's offense will probably score a few touchdowns, but the D isn't very good.

I'm really not that sure what to think. As you said, I don't think Auburn has a particularly good defense, but that may not mean a lot with Crompton at quarterback. If Tennessee is going to move the ball, it's going to have to be on the ground. Auburn has allowed something like 150 yards on the ground a game, so I would think Hardesty and Brown will have success, but there's no reason for Auburn not to have 8-9 men in the box to stop the run.

What are your thoughts on Auburn's run defense? Tennessee has a very good rushing offense, but that's all the offense they have.

Defensively, I think the Vols can at least slow down Auburn's offense. The Tigers have scored a ton of points so far, but haven't faced a defense close to comparable to Tennessee's yet. Against what I consider a much more potent Florida offense, the Tennessee defense held them to 23 points.

I think if Auburn scores 25+, Tennessee loses. If the Tennessee defense can hold Auburn below that number and Crompton doesn't turn the ball over at inopportune times (deep in UT territory, at the AU goal line, etc), then I think Tennessee wins. It should help that the game will be at Neyland.

If Tennessee wants to make a bowl appearance this year, this is a key game. After losing to UCLA, we need to beat at least one of Auburn/SC to make a bowl, if not both.

I think you're right. Auburn will probably stack the box early and see what Crompton can do. If he completes enough passes early, Auburn will be forced to loosen their D, and you'll then be able to run the ball for 5+ yards on a consistent basis.

I'm interested in seeing how Auburn's O fares against a decent defense...I think the Vols are probably going to win this game.
