Anyone have the latest on Alex Brown? Anything more than a sprain would be put a serious damper on an otherwise good day.
The Bears also saw defensive end Alex Brown get helped off the field with a sprained left ankle with just over four minutes remaining after collecting two sacks.

Better than a torn ACL, but I sprained my ankle a while back really bad and I couldn't do any athletic activity for 6 weeks.

you didn't have anyone shooting you up with cortisone either

I'd be worried if it was a high ankle sprain. That's the same thing Orton had last year and while he only missed a couple of games he was noticeably a less dynamic player the rest of the year. I think we're looking at a 2-4 week injury, and I think that any sort of sprained ankle injury will at least keep him out for next weeks game.

can anybody remember a game when robbie gould missed a big kick late in the game? i cant think of any

bucs in OT one year, can't remember which one.

It was '06 when the Bears had already pretty much clinched everything and blew a huge lead to them. He missed the FG, but they ended up forcing a turnover, and gave Robbie another shot and he nailed it. He was actually going through a random and rare slump at that time. If you remember, Gould had a huge stretch of consecutive makes to start the season, and without looking it up he just randomly lost it and missed 4-5 FGs in a 3 game stretch. But eventually he got it right as you saw in the playoffs.

Edit: OK, I was curious and looked it up. He started the season by making his first 24 FGs, before finally having one blocked against NE. He went 2-3 that game including the block, but after not having an attempt in the next game, he went 0-2 against the Rams missing a 30-39 yarder and a 40-49 yarder. After missing the kick in TB, he finished the season 11 for his next 11 FGs including the playoffs, where he went 6-6

Alex Briown' pretty PO'ed about how he was hurt:

Brown PO'ed

Not surprised, Steelers, while good, are the dirtiest MF'ers in football.

I didn't like the helmet-to-helmet stuff (both times on Olsen -- it's fine to try to rattle a guy, but that seemed dangerous to me), however here's a pretty classy quote from Tomlin:

“I’d like to tip my hat to Lovie Smith and the Chicago Bears,” said Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. “They played a very good football game. They fought until the very end. They didn’t blink, and they found a way to win it. We desired to do some things today, and we were unable to do them.

“I thought Jay Cutler was very good with the football. He faced some pressure, but he made great decisions. He put the ball in great locations, and the Bears converted third downs. They did enough to win, and we didn’t.”

funny thing is that Gould wasn't that great at Penn State.

i'm wondering if the league will hand out some fines on carter for those hits. how is it just legal to go around hitting people with your helmet? are you incapable of hitting someone without being dirty?

I don't know, but I will take a guess and say nothing will happen.

He wasnt. I believe it was when he went to NE the ST coach changed his approach and the number of steps he took before kicking the ball.

He doesnt have very good range but ill take his accuracy anyday, especially in a windy stadium.

Watching other kickers miss the easy ones, I feel really good about Gould inside of 50 yards (knock on wood).

Some Steeler fans called the Bear win luck today (at work). Having a FG kicker who can make a pressure kick in bad conditions counts for something. Yesterday it was the difference between winning and losing. That's not luck.
